I'm pretty sure you could get a bed in one of these:

Where is the office that you'll be working in? Traffic can be a bitch and a half, so we don't want to recommend something too far away.

The last place I lived in the area was Valley Ranch, which is in north Irving, close to Las Collinas. Lots of nice apartments. I worked in downtown Dallas, and it took me about 30 minutes to drive to work. (but that was in '97, not sure if its better or worse now)

If you want something newer then look in the North Dallas area or in Carrollton Plano and Frisco. These areas are relatively new and they're constantly putting up new businesses and apartments/homes all the time.

Lathum,

I no longer live in Dallas, but lived there for years. Where are you looking at living: Downtown Dallas, Addison, Irving, Plano, Carrollton, Frisco, etc.? There are so many sections of the area, which are all generally referred to as "Dallas." I'm guessing this is dependant on where you work and like Cartman said, w/o that info. we could be telling you about places that would be tough/unrealistic to commute from everyday.

Again, generally speaking, if you plan on partying frequently you may want to look at the downtown/Greenville area, not the safest, but it's a lot of fun. If you are more reserved, the North Dallas area may be suitable for you. I have lived in both Frisco (further north then Plano) and downtown and I definitely preferred the Frisco/Plano area.

If you have any specific questions on apartments (where not to go), bars & restaurants (where to go), I can try my best to fill you in. I was a bartender/bar GM when I was there so feel free to ask.

There are some sweet apartments going up in older buildings in Downtown Dallas. It's really revitalizing down there. You might want to check it out.

Get me the location of the HQ, and I'll see if I can't recommend some areas for you.

My parents live in Richardson. Not sure what kind of a commute that would be, but it was nice when we lived there 20 years ago, and it's nice now.

I know that the uptown area, esp on McKinney and Cole streets, just north of downtown, are really up and coming with some awesome apartment places. I think they're kind of expensive though.

Plenty of inexspensive apartments in the Lewisville and Carollton areas, but I'm taking an 8:30 class in downtown Dallas and it takes me nearly an hour to get there because of traffic. My brother lives in The Village, which is a younger community with a "country club" that always has stuff going on there. My bro works in downtown Dallas and it only takes him five or ten minutes to get to work.

I guess where you want to live really depends upon where your work is going to be located...

funny you should say that, because there is some revitalization going on in South Dallas. If the Cowboys were to move there...

I could give you some tips if I knew where you would be working and how much you make (generally speaking, not as an IRS agent undercover. :) ) and family situation, etc...

Not sure what your style is, but I live in The Village, which for a single, young dude like myself is really nice - it's a series of 13 apartment complexes all owned by Lincoln, with a central 'country club' that has a huge pool/bar, tennis courts, softball/football fields, weight room, etc etc. It's a popular place to live for 20something professionals, as well as SMU students. It's 5 miles north of downtown, and close to Greenville bar district.

But it all also depends on where you are working. Dallas commutes suck.

Lathum,
Congrats on the new job. I'll def. am interested to hear about, being a student in hotel and restaurant management at a college program right now. I remember you telling me about thinking of going for a Masters degree? Is it still possible? Also, not to get too personal, but is the pay and benefits good in working for a chain restaurant?

Thank you. Yes the pay and benifits are very good for that part of the country. I think I told you this last time, but when you finish school or during your senior year do an internship. In this industry there is no substitute for expierience. Please feel free to PM me for any help or advice. God knows I've seeked advice here a million times.

Carrollton is nicer than Addison. My wife works in Addison and we live in Carrollton. Plus, Addison is consistently the hottest spot(temperature wise) in the metroplex. There are a bunch of apartments on Hebron Parkway on either side of 121. I'd recommend finding something along there because those are two of the best ways to get places.

Yup, lots of nice yet fairly inexpensive apartments in Carrolton. My girlfriend and I are considering some in that area when our current lease is up...

Man, I'm surprised that there are this many FOFCers around here.

Lathum, let me know if you need help with anything. Also, when you get here, drop me a line and I'll buy you a beer. Jeeber will buy you one too. :D

No doubt. The DFW contingent at FOFC is much larger that I realized...

Heck, Lathum said that the first round was on him so the least I could do would be to return the favor... :)

Addison is nice, and my recommendation, Valley Ranch, borders Addison to the south. There are a lot of nice apartments, condos, and townhomes in the area. There is a ton of stuff in the area.

Good luck on the search!
