Anyone hear anything about the PC version of this game? I saw it the other day at Best Buy for 29.99 and was curious about it ad I've heard great things about it's console version.

I have the PC version, well I have PES3, which is the Euro PC version.

Great game, I'd probably recommend it for the console if you can though, a bit buggy, and there are some problems with slowdowns. Now the US version might have these problems already sorted out, I'm not sure.

Took me a long time to get my running adequately, but it's a very nice looking game when you do.

If you're not familiar with the series, it's far and away the best "arcade" simulation of any sport. It's a great game, get it one way or the other.

Another good thing about the PC version is it's easier to get mods and such, if you're not into modding your PS2.

I have FIFA 2004 for the PS2, but I was thinking of picking up Winning Eleven 7. The gameplay for FIFA is pretty good, but I've found the lack of a World Cup and international teams less than satisfying.

Anyone know if WE7 has the World Cup and international teams? Also, what's the gameplay like - more or less realistic than FIFA?

Thanks!

The gameplay is roughly 5 billion times more realistic than FIFA. ;)

There is a world cup and some international teams, but not a huge variety of them. The teams and players is the one thing that WE is really lacking in.

Get it though, you'll never play FIFA again afterward.

Sounds good. Are the scores realistic? Nothing I hate worse than exploits or money plays.

Thanks for the input...

Picked this up yesterday. It's a hell of a lot more realistic than the EA offerings, but that shouldn't surprise too many people. The problem with that is adjusting game play to actually match the realism, since you can't just take the ball down one side, cross and head it in for the goal. There is a lot of touch passing required just to get yourself into open space.

The game looks great, but even theough I have a very good machie it still runs slow when the graphics are cranked. I haven't noticed any glaring AI errors as of yet. Most of the errors are on my side, which leads to me losing after a ill-advised move in my own end gets turned into a good scoring opportunity for the opposition. This is pretty much because I have no clue about playing real soccer as I am used to the ping pong EA style games.

Oh, and I haven't found any money plays yet, but that might just be because I currently suck and wouldn't know a money play in the game if I stmbled over it.

Money plays are set pieces. Corners and free kicks. Although I've never bothered to practice them enough to score all, or most of, the time on them. I think that would take a lot of the fun away, practicing to play a game. The difficulty is on a 1-5 scale. Once you hit 3 it becomes challenging. 5 is very difficult and you'll actually lose a lot. The scores are very realistic.

There are enough teams in 7 to make it have some depth that 6 lacked. They have a Champions league and league cup as part of the season. 2 division format. You start out in D2 with fictional players replacing whatever real players were on your team at the start. D2 is actually the hardest part since your initial team really sucks, to put it mildly, while the other teams retain their real players.

You can also unlock dream teams from the major countries. So you can end up with Pele and what not in your league if you want. One major pain is that a lot of the names aren't correct and need to be adjusted, either via sharkport or manual entry (PS2 version). Overall the best PS2 game I've ever played though.

I'm about to be a shill for the game. If you aren't worried about the glitz and eye candy of the FIFA games, this game is a must. If you really want to play soccer, and not just pinball, get this game. I still suck at soccer and keep losing, or at least getting a draw. The fact that I still love it and feel such a sense of accomplishment just putting together an attack says a lot about the game. You actually have to work for it to get an attack and not just send the ball upfield.

I have already lost a lost of KOTOR dynasty time just because I keep playing 'just one more game' of this.

Mind sharing some of what you did? I'm down to 640x480 medium detail with a memory flusher to keep it running somewhat decently. Probably need to upgrade my GeForce440MX anyway...

Anyway, the tactics and play is so much better then FIFA its not funny, wish chips and crosses into the box weren't as effective. In my recent matches those were probably 80% of my goals against.

Well the chips and crosses in Fifa were kinda effective u just had to master that fine skill (which is a problem).

I was so stupid for being an EA whore and buying Fifa for the PS2. I just wasted money buying that crappy game. WE7 rules.

Just wanted to remark, I bought this game yesterday morning largely on the recommandation of this thread.

They told me it should ship to my house on July 14th or 15th, but low and behold, I check my GMail account today to see that it has shipped. So I go to track it, figuring it's in some obscure warehouse west of the Mississippi, and instead see that it was out for Delivery at 7:30am this morning.

So, hopefully I'll be able to give this a test drive tonight, although I'm still awaiting arrival on my Sidewinder gamepad.

You'll really like it when the gamepad arrives. Not sure what you'll try to use prior to that but I would think that attempting keyboard control would not be easy.

Well, here's the deal.

I got home from work, and had about an hour before the poker tournament started. Fortunately, the package had arrived (took TWO freaking days on free freaking shipping - I think I love you, Amazon!!). So I installed, and started messing around. The keyboard controls were actually do-able - not ideal, but workable. Played a couple games and lost, but not too badly.

So after an hour I had to head out, and put it down. I busted out of the poker tournament (was just a cheapie $5 feeder for a $50 championship in August) early, so decided to go running. I went running, and incidentally found a pickup soccer game on my route that apparantly plays nightly (!!) - I've been looking for just a weekly game for months, and now I stumble upon this by pure luck? Wow.

Anyways, so I goofed around there for a little while.

Then, I decided I was going to go to Wal-Mart and buy the cheapest gamepad they had. The one I ordered online would still take 2 weeks to get here, and I didn't want to wait that long. Plus, after I bought the thing (less than $20, and it seems pretty nice - "AxisPad" or something), I asked the lady what the return policy on that was, and she said it could be returned within 90 days, even if it was opened - WOOT!

So I went home and goofed around for way too long, mostly playing as Team USA against other squads.

Brazil beat me 2-1, and then I played as England against Real and got smoked, 3-1 (it was 3-nil most of the way).

Finally, I played a game as Borussia Dortmund, against, errr, someone, maybe Real, and got smoked pretty good.

All this was on 2-star difficulty. I'm still getting the feel for how to do some of the tricky moves/button combos.

Oh, also, I found a website where you can totally patch the game up with real teams/jerseys/flags/players. Highly recommended. Will make the game MUCH more enjoyable for me when I do a "Master League" - getting to play against Bayern and Man U instead of Fake Team A and Old Brick Road FC, or whatever they are. Plus, will be a lot nicer playing against Michael Ballack, Zé Roberto, Ollie Kahn et al instead of a bunch of fake people.

Will post further review(s) when I have more time to goof around with it.

But the early verdict is: Thanks for recommending this!!
