I guess you could say in this situation this was a perfect punt with 44 seconds of hang time to win the game, to bad it wasnt my team and it cost me a chance at a last second bomb, or a comeback of any kind....

1-10-ARI50 (01:09) ARI 36 Hollings ran around left end for 2 yards.
Tackled by SFO 25 Jammer.

2-08-SFO48 (01:02) ARI 36 Hollings ran inside the left tackle for 4 yards.
Tackled by SFO 59 Fillion.
Penalty: ARI - Offensive Holding.
SFO called time out.

2-18-ARI42 (00:53) ARI 25 Griffith ran inside the right guard for 4 yards.
Tackled by SFO 33 Parrish.

3-14-ARI46 (00:45) ARI 25 Griffith ran around left end for 6 yards.
Tackled by SFO 58 Gold.
SFO called time out.

4-08-SFO48 (00:01) ARI 7 Malone punted 44 yards from the SFO48.
The ball was marked out of bounds at the SFO04.

I remarked on this phenomenon in another thread. Isn't the time listed the time the play started? If so, this is another instance of what I think is the clock continuing to run during timeouts. In any case, I think there is a problem with timeout/clock logic.

You guys gotta read between the lines...

4-08-SFO48 (00:01) ARI 7 Malone punted 44 yards from the SFO48.
The snap was high, and Malone had to run back 10 yards to retrieve the ball. He tucks to run, avoids a few would-be tacklers with some help from a couple of good blocks, and decides he's better off trying to kick anyway. He gets off an ugly, low, line drive punt that landed at the SFO22 and slowly rolled towards the sideline. The SFO returner stayed clear of the ball as a pack of ARI cover men watched it gradually inch towards the goal line.
The ball was marked out of bounds at the SFO04.

I always thought the time was at the beginning of the play, not what the time was after the play. Even so, the timeouts are definatly bugged.

Just another voice that agrees it's the start time of the play. What that means is that when on the previous play it says that Griffith ran around left end, it means he really ran aroooooouunnnnd left end. Took him 44 seconds to gain 6 yards.

So was the game over after the punt? or did you get to have 1 play? Should answer the time question.

Well, if you look through your logs, you will find some games where the opening KO is a touchback. The first snap will then have a timestamp of 15:00. That should easily answer the time is at the beginning question.

I have looked through several logs, and the clock not stopping on timeouts bug is not constant. When the team behind has the ball, they seem to work fine - a play with a timeout after takes ~8-10 secs. The problems I have seen is when the defensive team is taking time outs, in the last minute, run plays still eat up 45 seconds. But, I not sure it is happening every time.

Maybe the timeout was listed under the wrong play, because if you look at the time between 2nd and 3rd down, theres only 8 seconds and according to the long, San Fran didn't use a timeout. If they didn't call a time out there, I'm not sure how Arizona ran a play and ran another play within 8 seconds, and especially since i'm guessing they were trying to run down the clock, as in what happened after 3rd down. So, I guess i'm saying that San Fran really called timeout after 2nd down, and it just got listed a play late.

That explanation works very well. Look at the times for 1st down and the two second downs as well. That indicates the game log is displaying called timeouts a play late. You certainly wouldn't call timeout when a holding penalty just stopped the clock.

Speaking of perfect punts, I was digging through the career statistics (again, I'm an addict) and was checking out punters who had also kicked FGs. I noticed that the longest punt ever in my dynasty was 76 yards! Wow!

Impressive, but not unheard of.

Didn't Randall Cunningham have an 80 yard punt once?

Cunningham punted once for 95 yards. It bounced for like 40 or 50 yards though (it was on that rock hard artificial turf).

New York Jets Punter Steve O'Neal has the greatest punt ever. From his 1 and downed on the opponents' 1 yard line. 98 yards. Like Tony Dorsett's 99-yard touchdown run, it can't get better than that.

That's why I love FOF, every time something happens that you think, oh that can't be right, it turns out it's just mirroring something that can (occasionally) happen in the real NFL.

Actually, what REALLY happened is that after a line drive kick, the ball rolled down to the 11 yard line. JUuuuuuust as it was about to stop rolling, an earthquake hit the bay area causing the ball to bounce around and continue rolling (think Caddyshack and explosives). With 1 second left, the earthquake stopped along with the ball at the 4 yard line.

I find this humorous as well.

Can you imagine someone coming here and complaining that their MVP QB threw 5 INTs in the Super Bowl, two to a backup CB, and 3 that were returned for TD?

i was at that game. the ball just bounced right over little dave meggetts head, and kept on rolling. it wasnt an impressive punt, i remember being surprised when i saw it was 95 yards.

thats what wind, turf, and a little man will do for you sometimes.

Yeah. On that artificial turf that used to be at Veteran's Stadium, if that ball bounced right, it would act like one of those small, rubber superballs. :)

Yup, not unheard of at all. Look at the stats for Michigan State's punter this year: http://college.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=133782

He had a few 70 yarders this year, and they weren't cheap 40 yard punts with a 30 yard roll.

That freshman's averages aren't great though. I wonder how consistant he is (if he's booming a few and shanking them, or booming one and kicking the rest 40-45)

I always thought someone should have gave ol' Randall a job as a punter.
