My 7-year old got an iPod shuffle for Christmas (I thought it was too much at first, but then realized I had a Walkman at that age). Anyway, he's got Guns and Roses, Heart's "Barracuda", Social Distortion, and Wolfmother on his shuffle, all because he heard these bands and liked them on Guitar Hero.
I saw Rock Band has the Pixies' "Wave of Mutilation"... I'm really hoping he gets into that band too. :D

Ahh, hearing that warms my heart. :D Tell him kudos on those.
As of this Christmas, all three of my kids have Shuffles. Their shuffles have been known to go from Social Distortion to music from the movie "Ella Enchanted" to Bad Religion to Britney Spears (ugh). Gotta love it.
Cheers!

Heh. I got my wife a shuffle as well. The 1GB is plenty big enough and it isn't filled. They're much better workout ipods than the touch.
Foo Fighters is pretty good on Rock Band.

I was about to say that Walkman's didn't even exist when I was 7, but decided to go look it up to be sure.
I wish I hadn't. Turns out I was 12 when the first ones were introduced in Japan.

Guitar Hero is definitely affecting what my students listen to music wise. They're definitely listening to a lot better music. I think we might see a rebirth of classic rock/80s metal.

I would love to see arena rock make a comeback. You know, music that just makes people want to have fun and feel good.
