I searched around here for awhile and didn't find anything. I hope I'm not the only one playing FIFA 08. EA has really put a lot of effort into this title and I have to say it's the best soccer game on the market (the next gen, the current gen sucks). Games aren't scripted and the ball really has good physics. Playing the CPU is pretty bad but against a human this game is an absolute blast (and very realistic). Am I the only one enjoying this game?

With PES 2008 coming out and getting much higher reviews, I doubt many people are getting this game. Also, it appears that EA has applied a patch that has stopped the PS3 version from working at all, so that's not going to help either.
I tried the PS3 demo and looks good. I have always been a PES fan and not a FIFA one, btu i must admit that this year FIFA has made huge improvements. I'll try the PES 08 demo first once released and then will decide, but for sure will buy one of them, as you can't be a good Spanish if you don't own a soccer game :)

I bought the game last week, but I haven't had much time to play it yet. I hope to get some time with it this weekend.

Where are you finding PES reviews? I can't find any out there. I know that most of the forums (including PES forums) are trashing the game and praising FIFA.
I have played the demo on the 360 and wasn't all that impressed. Graphics are still crap and the gameplay doesn't seem very much improved. It plays way too fast. I'm a huge fan of the series, but I don't see any reason to really buy this year. They also haven't made any strides in licensing or stadiums. It seems PES is moving toward an arcade style game while FIFA is actually trying to move toward realism (I never thought I'd say that about an EA game).
Maybe a lot will change before the game is released though. I was just thoroughly unimpressed with their demo. Not to mention it won't be out till the Spring in the US. If it turns out they fixed a lot of stuff in the demo and the game isn't as bad as I've been reading, I'll pick it up and Ebay FIFA. Even with its flaws, FIFA is the best game available for the next gen.

I got it and have been playing the hell out of it. Only problem I'm having is that is the lack of fouls being called on the CPU, I can't even remember the last time I had a free kick.

I refuse to fund the evil empire anymore. I might get it next year from a 2nd hand source so none of my money goes into the coffers of EA

It's already been noted by the developer that the demo is a very old build of the game. So I wouldn't put too much stock in that. I'm importing PES 2008 as it's region free and in English, so no big deal there. No need to wait until spring.
On the PS3 side, FIFA has received an average score of 82 at metacritic.com. PES 2008 has received 2 reviews thus far: 90 and 92 (IGN UK).
On the 360 side, FIFA has an average score of 82 as well. No PES 2008 reviews there yet.

Fixed. ;)

I'm as surprised as anyone that EA has put out a respectable game this year. It's amazing what a little competition will do. This should push Konami harder as well. Will be nice to have some good competition between the two companies.
If PES is good, it'll be a tough call. I'm kind of digging all the licenses though, never really got into a FIFA game before.

Yeah, that is kind of a crummy part. I'm also a little peterbed at how poorly our defensive AI is and how stonewall theres is. Near impossible to get a through pass through while my defenders just stand there watching. This is only when you play the CPU though.

I've been thinking about it, but EA has really taken my motivation away with the previous versions' gameplay. Maybe it'll be a rental at first.
Was going to buy this for Wii, but the reviews make it seem like FIFA mailed it again with the Wii version and the previews for the Wii version of PES 2008 are MIND-BLOWINGLY AWESOME so I am holding off for that.

I'm going to import PES in a week or so when it comes out on PC in Europe. I heard FIFA is better than normal this year but the individual players don't feel much different from each other except for how fast they run.

Same here. I probably would have checked it out already, but NBA 2k8 is going to get the vast majority of my playing time for the foreseeable future and has prevented me from renting this despite the good things I've heard. At least, that will make the wait for Winning Eleven (whatever version they are on) to come out.

It still seems like I can't win many 1on1's with the ball.. I always seem to get run off the ball and it's fairly annoying. Maybe that's just lack of skill though. And there doesn't seem to be many shots on goal and where they are they aren't very quality shots though... again could just be me :)

I bought it at release for 360 because I enjoyed the demo so much. I had the Xbox version last year and it was way too twitchy (the first FIFA I have bought since Road to the WC 98 for N64).
I have been playing manager mode with Spurs and am about 15 games in on Semi-Pro and I am loving this game. I have slowly been learning how to make space for my self near the box by tapping the right stick at an angle to tap the ball out a bit away from the defender just before I take my shot. I use the New-Alternate controls by the way as I have always been a WE/PES guy and these seem to flow the best.
The only gripes I have with this game is that I have trouble with crosses only getting to my players about 5% of the time (and even less so with corner kicks). I don't expect them to always find my players heads but it should be a little more frequent. The other is the fact that I have to do all the work on defense. My teammate AI is not so good. I have adjusted to this and am able to switch effectively and still hold teams offenses in check most of the time though.
Everytime I score a goal it is soooo rewarding with this game and when I give up a goal I have never felt cheated by the game. I nearly always can tell exactly what mistake I made that lead to the opponents goals.
If you guys that have the game are on XBL put your gamertag here so we can play - mine is BigDPW on XBL.
I have always been a WE/PES guy and I even enjoyed WE for the 360 last spring even though most did not but this FIFA is a good game of footie if you ask me. What I have played of the PES demo (downloaded it with my Euro gamertag) is not that great. I think the final product will be worth it but in the meantime I will be playing all my footie on FIFA 08. I have to say that I am really excited that Spurs will be licensed on WE this year though!
My highlight on manager mode so far was finding a 82 rated GK from Germany with my scout that is only 19-20 years old. He is already as good as Paul Robinson and has tons of potential I would assume given his great ratings early. Finding him took the sting a little out of my last game which was a 3-0 drubbing at Emirates to Arsenal. I almost cried when they went up 2-0 late in the game but the 3rd goal in garbage time when I was in all out attack mode stung a bit harshly.

I downloaded the demo last weekend. haven't decided if it's a "buy" yet though. Only played one half.

Haven't tried this one yet, but I've came real close to buying it several times.
The PES2008 demo has really underwhelmed me, and I've always been a big Winning Eleven guy, but I'm getting a little tired of how stagnate it has become. I love the gameplay, but they need to do SOMETHING presentation-wise instead of just slapping the same thing on there year after year, not to mention from last year's version and this demo I think they're actually making the gameplay worse.

I'm in the same boat. I've always chosen PES because the gameplay was miles ahead of FIFA. But if FIFA can match or even keep it close, it'll be tough to pull FIFA away. I'm really digging the licenses and the atmosphere.
The PES2008 demo really was underwhelming. Haven't they had 2 years to develop this? I still feel like I'm playing current gen graphics. The game feels more arcadey then before. I was really hoping this would be their true jump to next gen gaming, but it just looks like the old version with some gameplay tweaks and a few mid-level teams.
Just bought FIFA08, i was at the shopping center and saw it there, looking at me with sad eyes saying "please buy me, buy me" and i couldn't resist :D
I have been a PES player for years, PES is the game here in Spain, if you don't play PES you have no social life. Every dinner with friends in Spain ends with wifes talking and husbands playing PES.
This year i decided to try the FIFA demo after reading tons of good comments, and i must say i liked the feeling. It plays way slower, that is a good thing to me as i like to play tactic soccer, building slowly the plays in the midfield and that is not possible in PES that plays way faster, specially this new PES08 that looks more like past paced hockey than real soccer to me. FIFA08 games end 1-1, 0-1, etc, more like real football while PES games end 5-3, 4-3 etc that is more fun, but less realistic.
Also i like to play in manager mode with real teams in a lower division, and without leagues licenses, that is not possible in PES unless you wait until somebody releases a mod.
I'll probably end buying PES too just to keep playing with friends as PES is probably more fun to play vs humans, faster, you score way more goals etc. but for realistic solo playing, FIFA looks the winner this year (and this comes from a guy who hates EA and that finds hard to recognize that FIFA is more sim this year than PES).

I'm still enjoying it sporadically and it's going to hold me over till College Hoops comes out. My problem is against the CPU. The game is just dumbed down too much on the human side when playing the computer. Your guys stand there doing nothing at all. It makes it near impossible to move up to higher difficulty levels. It also just doesn't play realistically. For all the strides they made in the game, I am disappointed at how they had to dumb down your team's AI to make it competitive.

I play online all the time. I suck but I'm having fun.
I think i'm like 1 and 16 now. Lost about 5 OT shootouts :(. I finally started scoring though, so that is a good thing.
One problem I have is, I won't play with the best teams. If I play EPL, I'll take Fulham or West Ham, but I'm usually playing against Arsenal or Man U, Chelsea etc..
Most of my games are with the Red Bulls against other teams with 2 to 3 stars. I'm trying to start an MLS league for 360.
Oh and when I play international, I always take USA. I usually lose like 2 to 1 or 2 to 0 to Brazil or Argentina etc... I lost to Mexico about an hour ago 2 to 2, but lost the shootout 6 to 5 in OT.
I HATE LOSING TO MEXICO
