So at work we have a suicide pool going(pick a team to lose each week, can only pick a team once). I am the only one undefeated(or defeated depending on how you look at it) and I would like to keep it that way. Here are the teams I have used:
raiders
niners
browns
texans
redskins
rams
chargers
bills
I generally don't like to take home teams in this but that would leave me with the titans(v. browns) or the eagles(v. washington). I'm not sold on either of these picks. The bigger home dogs are the packers(v. steelers no Ben), Jets(v. chargers), and the cards(v. seattle). If Ben was playing I'd jump on the packers but they didn't look good without him. The cards are bad but the seahawks seem pretty eradic to me. The chargers are good but the jets have a decent D and might be able to keep this game close. Anyone have any inside news or a good feeling about any of these games? I guess I'm leaning twoards the Jets as I certainly will have plenty of chances to take the packers and cards later in the season.

I just read that Harrington is starting for the Lions this weekend, then I saw the title of this thread and decided to jump on in...

There is no logical reason to believe the Jets will win. San Diego is by far the better team.

I agree. The Jets stand out in that list.

And San Diego has to be motivated for this. They lose this game and see ya playoff wise.

You have mentioned suicide you must now apologize...
I'm curious are you approaching this on a week by week basis? I'd think it would be best to have a general plan over the season to avoid getting stuck with bad (or good?) choices the last few weeks.

things change so much that any initial plan would likely end up week to week.

Thanks guys. The Jets it is. BTW, maybe something to keep this thread going. Is there a pro coach more insane than Herm Edwards? I'm not talking about stupid I'm talking about some who appears ready to snap and be committed. On the college side of things I nominate John L. Smith the MSU coach. I'm not nearly as up on the college coachs though so I don't feel as confident about that one.

Herm is one of the worst game managers in the NFL. Awful. Great motivational guy...players coach type but I really question his football IQ.
Insane is a strong word. Cooky perhaps. I love the cut they play on ESPN radio of him saying he doesn't talk abouf injuries. It's like the guy never existed if he's hurt.
And the "we just try and win the game" rant was classic.

Fair enough insane is a bit strong. Then again I'm reminded of the "we are on the bus" rant and I start to wonder. Has anyone else heard some of the crazy comments from John L. He seems pretty similiar to Herm to me. Not great football IQ but maybe a good motivator.

Unfortunately for Herm the role of motivator only lasts so long. Especially devoid of talent.
Cowher is the ultimate freak in this regard. Never seen a guy with his style sustain it for so long with the same team. I give him credit.

I agree with this. I'll admit I'm not big on this like "intangibles". If a player or coach is providing motivation or leadership or whatever it should have an effect on the team and shouldn't be "intangible", we should be able to measure it in some way. That said, it's hard to argue with Cowher and what he brings. Ideally he seems like a great head coach who hires top notch coordinators and gives them pretty free reign. They like that because that can lead to head coaching oppertunities. Then he is free to spend his time firing up the team. The problem is he has to be one of the worst clock management guys in the league. That timeout at the end of the first half was just crazy last week. IMO the announcers should have nailed him to the wall for that. And it's not the first time he has pulled something like that.

I think some of the intangibles come from confidence. When your head coach flips out it doesn't inspire confidence. There's a balance some guys find between intensity and insanity.
