Its back, and it hasnt lost its charm, or has it?

The Sequel to one of the hottest titles for the PS2 has made its way over to the PC finally. Lets take a look at this game and what you can expect!

This game is set in the 80's, apparently after the first game. At least that is what I make of it, someone might correct me their. It is alot like the first game on the surface but some changes have been made.

1. You can buy buildings

This is a cool feature. I like the idea of being able to buy different garages, and save points. I just wish that they put more thought into where those were at. some areas are negelected. You can also buy businesses, this adds depth to the game, and provides more side missions.

2. You can enter alot more places. This also is a needed feature, and hopefully GTA4 will really expand on this.

3. You can ride motorcycles. Arguably one of the coolest features in the game. I loved riding the bikes in GTA, and now they are back

4. You can fly helicopters. I havent flown a real one yet, so I cannot comment on this part.

The game is still pretty linear, however I think there alot more side missions in this game and a few less plot missions. Also I think this game is definately harder than GTA3. That is a good thing, because GTA3 was a bit easy for me to complete the main story. Albeit it can get frustrating having to spend all that time going too the gun shop and buying stuff.

I think all game designers should look at this game and GTA3 and see how they do missions. Even thought there is a limited number of types of missions: Escort, Kill, Retrieve Item and Race. You dont feel like your doing the same things over and over.

The sounds are nicely done. I especially enjoy the sounds you make when running over someone. I dont care much for the radio stations though, Im not a big fan of 80's music, but the commercials and talk radio are good in this game too.

Overall I give this game a 95%
It lost a few points in the music category, but only because of my taste in music. I also took a point or two away, because this even thought its a different time period, it still feels an awful lot like GTA3.

I would recoomend this game too anyone that enjoyed GTA3. However if you didnt really get into GTA3 I would reccomend just renting this game.

Airhog.. just curious really...

Did you grow up with 80's music?

I found most of the music amusing.. and perfect for the setting they tried to portray.. nothing like going on a hit and run rampage with 99 luftballon's playing :)

And the Lawrence Taylor commericals are priceless

I didnt really listen to much music as a kid. I think the music was good for the setting, but not for my tastes. luckily you can add your own music, so that is a bonus :D

Right now I find the game amazing, my girlfriend does not...

I like the 80's vibe...the fact that they get Dennis Hopper, Burt Reynolds (he does a terrible cowboy voice), LT, and others is nothing short of amazing...

The graphics are good, the sun glare, the glitz...close ups of the characters leads a little to be desired, but hey this is a game not the real thing.

The bikes are cool. The cars are fast. The missions are tough, but I still think PC users get a bonus dealing with a mouse/keyboard setup over the controller anyday...

My biggest gripe is the ability to save...you have to go back to a starting point to save, rather than like most games, save immediately (anywhere, anyplace)...and while I admit it has to do with keeping the game challenging, it's a pain in the tail when realife calls and you're stuck in the middle of a mission...I think that you should be able to save after a completed mission anywhere...

I love all the music...but for those who think the 80's were poor in music, you can add music files and channel into your own hits...

Stuck at work...

I love GTA: VC, however ... I do believe Vice City is actually a prequel to GTA III. I'm not certian but that's what I think, anyway, glad that everyone who doesn't own a PS2 can get a look at the hottest game since ... GTA III.

The game is a blast, and while I have completed it twice already, I still find myself playing just to do insane stunts and trying to top my friends in the "Wanted" meter, it's hard to get above 5 stars ...

I was convinced this was the greatest game ever created the first time I drove around doing drive-bys in a golf cart cranking 99 luftballon's while being chased by the police..

I own it on the ps2, and will soon own it on the PC simply so I can create my own selection of 80s music to listen too while causing carnage.

Heres a tip for those of you with a large mp3 collection. You can just place shortcuts to your mp3's rather than copying them into the folder. this will save you space if you have a large collection.

Well here are my final thoughts, the game seems easier on the PC, or maybe im just good at it. I have finished the game 100% now, and there is nothing left to do. I think that this game is worth the money though, I have spent several weeks playing it through twice. I only wish it was more moddable though.

The three guys that get that follow you around (after getting 100%) with Uzis or MP5s die quickly. I tried having a "44 minutes" type shootout with all of them, and they just got in the way of my shots. They're pretty damn stupid I can tell you that.

I was able to pick this up for $20 (with $10 off from ToysRUs) last night and enjoyed GTA2, although I really didn't do too much other than drive around and complete a few easy missions before shelving it.

I'm trying to get the hang of shooting, etc., using the keyboard and mouse. Maybe it's just that I don't play many "arcade-type" games anymore, but I find this really difficult. How do/did you guys do this? Mostly mouse, different keys than the standard keyboard setup?

If I was going to play GTA on the PC, I would use a gamepad.

Ksyrup,

Using the mouse and keyboard does take some getting used to, but I definitely prefer it over a gamepad. I feel like I have a bit more control using the mouse and keyboard.
