They just started extending more invites. I have 10.
Basically, it's like Spotify, only it costs $5 a month to stream from the web. Any song in their catalog. for $10 a month, you can stream any song on the web, stream any song using your iphone or blackberry (droid is coming, but nothing for my pre :(), or download songs to your iphone for offline listening (but you can't move these songs to your computer). It seems to be similar to rhapsody, or a legal grooveshark.
Let me know if you want to try the service out for 3 days. Just PM me your email.

I've been waiting patiently for Spotify to arrive in the US. This sounds like it could be pretty good. I like Grooveshark, too. I'll have to check this out.

I read a review saying that Mog and Rdio were the best of the bunch. I decided to try Rdio since you get a seven day trial without having to give your credit card info.
So far have been really impressed. I am not an audiophile so take this with a grain of salt but I think the sound quality is really good. I also like that it is really easy to set up playlists and random radio stations based on my interests.
Has anybody tried out these services? Thoughts on them? I have read that rdio has the smallest music catalog out of all the services, but have not found any glaring omissions so far. For only five bucks a month seems worth it.

I don't think the money they charge you really goes to the artist.

Oh right, I forgot grooveshark has a pay component.

I'll check this out.
I've been using grooveshark like crazy the past few months, because I get tired of loading my Zune catalog every time I want to hear something and I finally canned my Rhapsody account last year after having it forever.

I still like it, but I'm not sure how it'll fit into my listening overall. I only pay for grooveshark's online service because I like being able to scrobble what I listen to and Rdio might just be redundant with my Zune pass. It's nice, well laid out and flexible and it's better in the UI department than Grooveshark I thought, but...I'll need to spend more time with it before I decide what I want to do.
I don't need to access my music from multiple devices or else, it'd be a dealmaker since I could use this on the iPad.

Does it let you rate songs, and create a playlist that plays songs rated higher more often, like itunes does?

As far as I can tell, the answer is no.
But like I said earlier, there is a seven day trial and you don't have to give them any credit card info so it doesn't hurt to give it a shot anyways.

Scrolling is slow on the site.

Check that. The site itself is slow. Still working my way around the site. I think once I get a feel for it I will subscribe to it. Just wished it moved a little smoother.

My grooveshark subscription was monthly and is up and I'm debating with two days left in my Rdio trial whether to make the switch. I think I'm going to try Rdio for a month. While I'm generally skeptical of social services, what was nice about sites like Audiogalaxy back in the day and last.fm in theory is that you can find out about other artists you might like through the whole social setup of it and not from just having a ton of people you know using it as well.
So far, that's the big thing that Rdio offers that Grooveshark doesn't. Plus, with some more obscure artists it can be harder to find good recordings of their music and it doesn't happen much and there are indeed artists that I can't find on Rdio (only a few) that I know I can find on Grooveshark since people can just upload it, but there seem to be more pros than cons to Rdio at the moment that are tempting me to give it a whirl for a month and see how much I use it.
