I don't necessarily think it's a conscious decision to have or not to have spontaneous arousal...it's just something that...happens or doesn't happen. It's probably really wrapped into subconscious stuff. If I went to a shrink I think it'd probably go like: Q- "What are you afraid of? What's the worst that could happen?" A- "I could get hurt. I'm so risk-averse. I'm so afraid of being hurt. I don't know what I'm missing at all, so it's not worth the risk of being hurt to me. I can't properly balance the equation because I don't understand the benefits and only understand the risks, so I'm just refusing to even attempt to solve it." So I don't even know what a shrink could say to that to effect real change in that regard.

See...I know what the problem is in that sense. But it's a Catch-22, there's not a solution that I can see.

I do accept that insofar as I keep feeling bad for myself and finding fault with myself (see: my continuous comments about how i'm overweight for example) I'll reflect a negative self-image and women I meet will see that all over my face and be disinclined to consider me as a romantic partner. So maybe you say the solution is to improve my self-image and feel better about myself and wait for a woman to approach me so that I know she's interested and I'm less likely to be hurt?

The issue then though is that I'm a very introverted person. I don't really like to go out and meet people. And my close friends are all married, or moving far down the path to marriage, so it's not like there's a lot of single people I socialize with. And honestly, I'm still in a situation then where I'm horribly inexperienced vis a vis my peer group in all regards, and I'm massively insecure about that, so it's not like going the internet-route is a great cure-all for that, where it might be for the "introverted" piece.

Sometimes do I get a lil :( and feel a little lonely? Sure. But it's something that I'm used to...frankly it's the status quo for me. And I've...accepted that...as sad as it is. It doesn't really...bother me most the time.
