Not surprising, the conservative states dominate porn sales. I guess the big shock is by how much. Utah is literally consuming 5 times the porn per capita than many other states.

And now we know why it was Al Gore who invented the internet - so liberals wouldn't have to pay for porn. :D
The conservatives are all paying for porn and the liberals are all masturbating in this thread.
welp i guess everyone is happy now!

The conservative state thing doesn't matter to me much. I just want to know what the hell is going on in Utah. Is this state just filled with ferocious masturbators?

I'll play devil's advocate for the conservatives and ask if it's possible that online porn purchasing is higher in a state like Utah where there are restrictions on porn -- I imagine there are fewer strip clubs and places to buy porn in Utah than most other places.
That said, my hometown is in the buckle of the Bible belt and our claim to fame when Telecable first started offering on-demand movies that we had the highest rate of porn purchases of any of their markets. I think there is something to be said about people who live in conservative areas hiding their sexual indulgences, whatever they may be.

When I was in college, the sluttiest girls I met were the ones that came from religious families. There was one girl I dated for a month who's Father actually worked at a Church. She went every Sunday, did the whole lent thing, all that other stuff. This girl was downright dirty, did things I had never even heard of.

They weren't surfing for porn when they were allowed to have multiple wives.

I can attest that Utah (at least Salt Lake) has the worst set of on-demand movies anywhere.

To use the word "dominate" is quite a misnomer.
After controlling for differences in broadband internet access between states – online porn tends to be a bandwidth hog – and adjusting for population, he found a relatively small difference between states with the most adult purchases and those with the fewest
The biggest consumer, Utah, averaged 5.47 adult content subscriptions per 1000 home broadband users; Montana bought the least with 1.92 per 1000. "The differences here are not so stark," Edelman says..
You're talking about a difference of 0.355%.

Another thing, the article is complete junk. Although the raw data cannot be disputed, the correlations and conclusions drawn from the data is certainly inconclusive due to the margin of error, which I would hazard to guess is at least 1%.

The percentage difference is 5.47/1.92. It's a 284% difference. Or they buy almost 3 times as much.

It's easier to understand that if you extrapolate the numbers. Let's assume that both states have 500,000 subscribers. Utah would have 2,735 subscriptions. Montana would have 960.
2735/960=2.849 Utah has almost 3 times as many subscribers per capita.
Now it looks like the difference between 10 and 41 is quite slight, but the difference between highest and lowest is pretty large. Of course it's only one porn companies results, so you can only take the results so seriously.

Yeah, who knows, maybe the company just employs a lot of Utah talent and people like supporting local employees ;)

Only at FOFC could we turn a porn thread into a math thread. Great job, guys.
:D
If voting conservative and watching porn is wrong, then I don't wanna be right.
