View Full Version : QOTM list becoming diluted and weak???

This is the first time for me to post a poll, so bear with me. I think we have too many quotes that are not deserving. It is almost like every tenth post gets submitted now. Is it just me or do we need to slow down on how many are accepted and also clear out some that are not very good? I would hate to the see such a great idea diluted to the point that people stop enjoying it.

You forgot the "I wish there was a way for me to turn them off if I so desired to do so" option.

I'm bumping this because QOTM seemingly reaches a new level of insipidness each day, IMO.
Flame away.

I agree, but I'm reluctant to trim it because of the "kleenex" bug. Shorty said that once you cross a certain threshold, the single, repeating quote problem is less likely to appear. While we still get the new "kleenex" quote too much of the time, I think it is better than it used to be.
I couldn't care less, because I don't read them anyway

If that were the case, I'd have a lot more entries in there than I do now.

I'm just amazed at the crap that people submit as quotable material. To each his own, I guess.
By the way, sorry if that came across as a shot at you, which was not my intent.

I didn't interpret that way - I agreed that most of the stuff is lame (I've remarked that any sexual reference automatically gets submitted), but I'm happy keeping the lame crap for the time being so that there isn't the "kleenex" problem.
Speaking of which, I have to do my moderation duties. . .

I always that quotables were well.....things that you could dare repeat.
As I say, and always will say, if the first thing new people to the board see is the rediculously immature QOTM's then it's bound to frighten off even the most hard core Football Mogul fans...

Since it seems mostly better now, couldn't you remove a lame one for every new 'good' one you add?

What's with all the QOTM snobbery around here? Nobody ever said we were collectively writing the next great American novel or anything.

Now that you mention it, I see all of the crappy QOTM's as potential for the Best Mad-Lib Ever (tm).
And, I don't care about the QOTMs. I read them, I chuckle or I don't, then I go on to the rest of the board.

Also, a lot of people remarked at how not funny this last batch of quotes was. Well, duh, out of context. But in the thread, I remember numerous times laughing out loud at the things. The QotM just brings the memories back.

The worst part of this thread was that I thought HM and his alter-ego "Cowtown" were back.

I think the QOTM is being diluted some, but so what. I read them and if it is funny, great. If not, I move on. It's pretty easy really.

I heard rumors that they would return on March 3, 2004. One could only hope.

And here we were led to believe that they were three-legged monkeys.
I understand that most quotes are taken out of the atmosphere in which they were written.
However, there are really two things that bother me about QotM. One is the (this is the stuff you missed and why this QotM was so funny) parenthesis. The other is the paragraph quotes.
I could do without either of these. I could also do without the sexual references, but that's a personal matter, and I can live with that.
Other wise, I find QotM pretty good.

Well, I only have two of them ... oh crappy QOTM's, not Crappy's QOTM. My bad.
P.S. Honestly, I don't think either of mine are all that funny anyway. Mildly amusing in context (maybe, if I'm lucky), but not QoTM material.

Does asking if the QOTM list is becoming weak and diluted imply that the QOTM was once strong and concentrated? It's a mild diversion at best, althought I rare glance at anymore. It's pointless yet harmless.
However, like Tournament Dream College Basketball, it seems to bring joy and happiness to about a half dozen people who don't have anything else going for them, so why should I care?

Actually, you don't get the kleenex quote, you get the knockoff wannabe. There are 2 types of FOFC posters, those who like the kleenex quote and those who throw the kleenex on the floor when they are done.

Don't get me wrong for the reason I don't like it. I could care less personally about the QOTM because, well, like it or not ( :) ) I'm here....and it's here.
I just think it's a bad advertising slogan to put at the top of the only real page for Solecismic's products. So people that are just visiting to get an idea from others what FOF products might be like, think, "Oh.....it's for 3rd graders..." and move on.
Yes, the QOTM's are funning (the first time) when you know what it's about, but if you don't, they are pretty jevenile. And most interested customers for FOF, I suspect, are probably more serious and mature than the QOTM's suggest. Hell, of all the great things I've written here, the only QOTM I've gotten was about gay little half moons the French make... :)
But, hey, I'm not making a dime whether it's there or not.

the QOTM is the only reason I get up in the morning. Please don't change a thing or I may have to end my otherwise empty life.

I agree. Without the QOTM, my great grandpa would have bled to death earlier, but he was able to use the list he had printed to slow the bleeding. QOTM kept him alive another 10 minutes. Long enough for them to give him some morphine. What a way to go. Thanks QOTM.

QOTM has great medicinal properties. It's made my penis larger, my waist smaller, my hair fuller, and my teeth whiter. I like QOTM so much, I bought the company.

The default skin when guests show up to the board (per Bucc's idea) has NO QOTM. Thus killing the idea that guests may be turned off by it.

I am not sure. Hopefully I get to be the ham in the sandwich you are imagining. That makes me a giver and a taker, which I like to think I am. Do you see any mayo?

When I'm in school, I have to relogin every time I visit FOFC.
The start page of the forum shows the blue vb skin, but when i click on a forum (I only tried general forum and dynasty forum), I see the solecismic yellow skin WITH quote of the moment.
