There's no news on it, am I an idiot, what is so important about '84?

I assume it is referring to the book 1984 by George Orwell. If so I imagine it could be quite the good movie.

Looking forward to it, though what's the bet that it;
a) is set in the United States, and
b) sucks.
The fact that it's called 1984 will hopefully force them to actually set it in that time period at least.

WAR IS PEACE
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH
I love movies based on Orwell's concept of a "one society" (V for Vendetta, Equilibrium). Glad to see a movie is coming out.

I read somewhere (quite awhile back) that Tim Robbins was pushing to make the movie and wanted to direct.

No kidding. V for Vendetta had a hell of a 1984 feel to it. They better not screw this up, but I can't imagine how they'll do it right.

The problem could be that we've seen too many of these dystopian movies in the last few years... I know it's only a couple, but still. :)

Wasn't there already a 1984 movie?

Yeah, there was. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_(1984_film)) But it wasn't a big budget Hollywood flick. Though reading that, I didn't realize it cost as much as it did back then.

Fahrenheit 451 is also slated for 2009, setting up another one of those thematic logjams that everyone loves.

Cool. Who's up for making a Brave New World movie with me? I'm thinking we can release it in....2009.

I actually read this book, and not 1984, in high school. Although the uh... sex scenes with children might prove difficult to execute.

So don't worry, Groundhog -- no chance of our movie being set in the United States!
