What school did you or are you graduating from (or the school of...I had to go to work, asshole)? Not what schools do you root for, but which is your alma mater?

I graduated from SMU (which I know is strange since I grew up in Ft. Worth and root for TCU) (except that lots of you aren't from Texas or at least don't know what I am talking about with the SMU/TCU thing), home of the Death Penalty.

They regularly make the list of worst college mascots, along with the Banana Slugs and few others I can't recall. I don't even remember how they got the name, to tell you the truth, since I was only there for one year. The school is in Clinton, SC, which was a pit of a place, really. And I got that impression in 1989-90, before I'd ever heard of Bill Clinton. Appropriate namesake, though!

Havn't seen enough Bison/Sioux games. Being in Cincinnati, the only way is if someone in the area hosts the satalite broadcast of the football game. Drove to Indy for that once, but otherwise, I just have to rely on the web and reports from home.

I wonder if they will be able to keep the rivalry up when NDSU goes D I-AA in 2004? It would be ashame to lose all that history.

I was hoping to find an article(s) that gave the whole story of how everything happened, from start to finish and what went on behind the scenes while the program was shut down for 2 years.. You know, kind of a investigative/documentary type of article or story.. I'll check out the Dallas Morning News..

I'm surprised after all these years there hasn't been some kind of book put out by someone regarding all of this. People write books about every damn thing imaginable, why not one about the SMU Football Death Penalty?

Thanks!!

Didn't Sports Illustrated do an article on SMU and their difficulty in recovering from the Death Penalty several months ago? I'm pretty sure they went over the details behind it, but I can't remember how in depth they got.

In regards to the request for info about Tulane... I can give some information as I'm a doctor here at Tulane and work at the Tulane Student Health Center. It is a MAJOR party school in my estimation that has a pretty good national reputation. Many people overdo the partying which leads to them needing to leave after a year (secondary to academic problems - not saying this is what happened to the above poster, just something I've noticed in general.) I'd say about 5-10 percent of the student body leaves after a year as a result of this. The more amazing thing is the number of people I see who are 8th year Seniors still fighting the good fight  . Of course, there are plenty of students who come here serious about their education and do well and go on to nice jobs nationally.

Let me explain how the college rivalry system in Texas works.

The University of Texas claims that Texas A&M isn't their real rival, Oklahoma is.

Texas A&M University claims that Texas Tech isn't their real rival, Texas is.

Texas Tech claims that....

Yes, I have an undergrad degree from Rice.

Yes, I am a diehard Longhorns fan.

No, it has nothing to do with a rivalry.

In a nutshell, Rice is a more prestigious school. Texas is no slouch by any stretch of the imagination, but it is not Rice. Also, I had friends who chose Texas and I wanted to avoid them so that I could focus more on studying and less on partying. It did not work because I just met new friends in Houston. :D

Rice helped enhance my career, but my veins still pump burnt orange blood and have since I was a toddler.
