With the 02-03 basketball season winding down, and the recent release of TDCB, I have decided to do a little 64 team tournament featuring the Final Four teams from the past 16 years (4 teams * 16 seasons = 64 teams)

I did a couple of these What-if Dynasties before, and I know Grid Iron had some good ones as well.

Anyway, the initial brackets will be up soon, and I encourage you to get your bracket entries in. Maybe somebody can make up a trophy, or something, for the winner. At the very least, you have bragging rights and it should be pretty fun.

Michigan forfeited its 1993 Final Four appearance, but you'll include them, right? ;)

Great idea for a dynasty!

99-00 Michigan State

Yes, the Michigan teams will be included.

Oh by the way, I am looking for suggestions on how to best run this tournament.

I can probably put the full brackets up on a website with my email address on there and people can just email me their submission......

Or maybe I can just have people who want an entry to email me and I can email them back with an attachment that they can fill out and return to me.

Thoughts on this?

Seeds 1-4 are national champions
Seeds 5-8 are national runner-ups
Seed 9-16 are the losers of the national Semi-Final games.

Specific seeding was partially random, and partially based on my thoughts of how good a team was.

for example, the 00-99 Wisconsin and UNC teams were barely Final 4 caliber, IMO, so they are 16 seeds (this is the my thoughts part), but the 98-99 MSU team was pretty good, and they only got a 15 seed (this is the random part). Using my thoughts and a randomness factor, these brackets are scientifically perfect. don't argue with them. :D

East plays West

and

Southeast plays Midwest

in the Final Four

Start sending in your entries via PM. I think the easiest way to do this is just round by round. I would like to have you guys project the entire bracket but that is pretty tough to do and monitor on the forum here.

So, just list the 32 teams you think you will win in the first round games. Each correct pick is worth 1 point.

I will accept entries until 6pm EST Friday for Round 1!

Curious.

Where are the games going to be played...err, simmed? ;)
At a neutral site or at the higher seed's home court?

Marmel
02-27-2003, 09:37 AM
All games will be at a neutral site msugreen. Good question!

The nice thing about "What-If-Sports" is that you get a box score after the game. So instead of just listing the scores, I can type up newspaper report like reports that tell you who led the scoring, rebounding, etc...

UNC's championship team a 4 seed!? Oh well UNC will be pulling tons of upsets along the way here. Wonder how many times UNC/Duke teams will play with all the final fours they've been to combined in the last 16 years?

Welcome to Marmel’s What-If-Sports NCAA Tournament.

The action is starting early out in the East bracket, in Boston, Mass with a mismatch in the 8-9 game. The 90-91 Runnin’ Rebels of UNLV are the 9 seed and they are taking on the 97-98 Utah Utes. Many still believe this UNLV squad was the best team ever, yet they failed to win a game in the Final Four.

As expected, UNLV just ran away with this game, putting up 100 points to Utah’s 82. Anderson Hunt played all 40 minutes for UNLV and put up 31 points and had 5 assists. Larry Johnson added 21 points and 10 rebounds. Andre Miller and Michael Doleac each had 20 for the Utes.

Also, in the East, the 4 Seed, 92-93 UNC held on to beat the 88-89 Illinois team, a 13 seed. The final score was 96-88. Eric Montross led the way for the Heels with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Nick Anderson led the Illini with 18 points and 9 rebounds.

Next, we will head to the Southeast.

The 2 seed, 86-87 Indiana Hoosiers got 23 points, 3 assists and 2 steals from team leader Steve Alford en route to a 85-78 victory over the 15th seeded 94-95 Oklahoma St. Cowboys. Bryant Reeves, for OK St. led the game with 26 points, and Randy Rutherford chipped in 20, but it was not enough to pull the upset. Dean Garrett had 11 rebounds and 14 points for the Hoosiers.

Staying in the Southeast, we see the 92-93 Kansas Jayhawks, a 10 seed, fall against the Fab 5 of the 92-93 Michigan Wolverines, a 7 seed. Kansas had 6 players score in double digits, led by Rex Walters with 16. Michigan was led by Chris Webber and his 18 points and 12 rebounds. Jalen Rose had 16, and both Jimmy King and Ray Jackson scored a dozen.

We go back to the East, where the #1 seed, the Duke Blue Devils of 91-92 take on the 16th seeded Wisconsin Badgers from 99-00.

The Devils handle this game with ease, cruising to a 79-65 victory. Christian Laettner led the Dukies with 23 points. Hurley, Davis and the two Hills each scored in double figures. For Wisconsin, Mark Vershaw had 15 and Andy Kowske had a dozen.

To close out the top half of the bracket in the East, #5 91-92 Michigan takes on #12 89-90 Arkansas.

The Razorbacks pull off the first upset of the tournament by knocking off the 5 seed, 82-77. Todd Day led the way for Arkansas with 17 points, while Lenzie Howell had 14 and Lee Mayberry had 12. Michigan was led by Jalen Rose and his 19 points. Weber was in foul trouble all day which may have hurt this squad. He finished with 16 points and 6 boards.

We head back to the Southeast to finish up the bottom half of that bracket.

Our second straight upset, as the 14th seeded Stanford Cardinals from 97-98 upend the 3 seed, 90-91 Duke Blue Devils, 85-81! Arthur Lee led the Cardinal with 13 points. Mad Mark Madsen and Kris Weems each had a dozen. Laettner led the Devils with 18, and Bobby Hurley chipped in 12 in the losing effort.

The 6 seed, 99-00 Florida manhandled a very good 00-01 Maryland squad, 94-80. Mike Miller led the Gators with 15 points and 8 boards, while Udonis Haslem had 14 points and Teddy Dupay and Donnell Harvey each had 13. Juan Dixon put up 19 points for the Terps.

Opening up in the Midwest is the #2 seed, 93-94 Arkansas. They will take on the 15 seed, the 98-99 Michigan State team.

It turned out to be 40 minutes of hell for the Razorbacks as the #2 seed goes down, 84-81, to a very talented Michigan St. squad, who came back to win the title the next year. The Spartans were led by Mateen Cleaves and Morris Peterson, who each scored 16 points. Jason Klein added 13. For the Razorbacks, Corliss Williamson had 16 points and 5 boards.

Staying in the Midwest, we see the #3 seed, the 88-89 Michigan Wolverines make easy work of the 96-97 Minnesota Golden Gophers, 92-79. Glen Rice led the way with 23 points for the Wolverines, while Rumeal Robinson and Loy Vaught each had 16. For the Gophers, Bobby Jackson led the team with 16 points.

We head out west…

The 96-97 Arizona Wildcat team had a great run back in the day, but they cannot win a game as the 4 seed in this tournament, as the 01-02 Oklahoma Sooners down them, 88-80. Hollis Price scored 19 for the Sooners and Ebi Ere and Aaron McGhee each had 16. For the Wildcats, Miles Simon had 18 and Michael Dickerson had 16.

The 5 seed, 96-97 Kentucky had an easy time with the 12 seed, 96-97 UNC. Kentucky won 91-77 behind 21 points and 7 rebounds from Ron Mercer. Derek Anderson had 17 points and Anthony Epps had 10 for the Wildcats. Antawn Jamison had 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Heels.

Half the brackets are almost filled in, just four more games, and we stay in the West…..

The #1 seed, 89-90 UNLV had to put everything on the floor to get past the #16 seeded 99-00 UNC Tarheels. The Rebels pulled this one out, 80-79 behind 17 points and 11 rebounds from Larry Johnson. David Butler added 14 and Anderson Hunt had 13 for the Rebels. UNC was led by Joseph Forte and his 21 point performance. Jason Capel had 13 for the Heels.

Closing out the top half of the West bracket, the 9 seed, 95-96 Umass takes the win over the 8 seeded Indiana Hoosiers from 01-02 by a final of 88-72. That Umass team lost to a juggernaut of a Kentucky team in the Final Four, but is talented enough to go far in this one. Marcus Camby was unstoppable with 23 points and 17 rebounds. Donta Bright had 22 for the Minutemen. The Hoosiers got 15 points from Jared Jeffries and 12 from Tom Coverdale.

Finally, we go back to the Midwest….

The 6 seed, 00-01 Arizona Wildcats beat the 11 seed, 97-98 UNC Tarheels, 84-81. Michael Wright led the Cats with 19 points, while Richard Jefferson and Gilbert Arenas each had 14. For the Heels, Antawn Jamison led the way with 21 points and 17 rebounds, while Vince Carter and Shammond Williams each had 16.

We wrap it up with the 7 seed, the 88-89 Seton Hall Pirates beating the 10 seed, the 87-88 Duke Blue Devils, 87-84. The Pirates were led by John Morton and his 19 points. Andrew Gaze had 15, while Ramon Ramos had 14 points and 13 boards. Danny Ferry had 18 for the Devils, while Kevin Strickland had 16.

Umm, no. I think you misread the post. It goes as follows:

Wow, what many people consider to be one of the best teams of all time, the 1991 UNLV team goes down in a near rout 100-82 in the first round.

OK, I'm confused now Marmel. In the game write-up you say:

"The 90-91 Runnin’ Rebels of UNLV are the 9 seed and they are taking on the 97-98 Utah Utes.

Andre Miller and Michael Doleac each had 20 for the Utes."

Now, when you listed just the score, you put:

8 97-98 Utah 100
9 90-91 UNLV 82

And for the Round Two games you have listed:

1 91-92 Duke
8 97-98 Utah

Is the write-up right or is the score right? I would hate to see that great UNLV team go out inadvertantly...

Rock chalk! The first one is a classic rematch while the second has one of our best teams and the second was a good team that got screwed by the refs.

Yeah, I missed the write-up, as JeeberD pointed out, and just noticed the score on the list, with Utah as the winner.

Welcome to Round 2 of the What if NCAA Tournament!

Let’s get right into the action where the games have finished in the East Bracket. In a highly anticipated matchup, the 91-92 Duke squad goes up against the 90-91 UNLV team, and the 92-93 UNC TarHeels take on the 89-90 Arkansas Razorbacks.

In a terrific matchup, Christian Laettner took the Blue Devils on his back and led them to a 99-94 victory over the 9th seeded Rebels. Laettner had 29 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way. Tom Hill had 16 for the Devils, and Brian Davis, Bobby Hurley and Grant Hill each scored 14 points. For the Rebels, Larry Johnson led the way with 22 points, while Anderson Hunt had 16 and Greg Anthony added 15.

The 4th seeded UNC Tarheel of 92-93 move into the Sweet 16 by beating the 12 seed, the 89-90 Arkansas Razorbacks, by a final score of 97-87. Eric Montross led the Heels with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Donald Williams added 21 points, while George Lynch had 16. For the Razorbacks, Todd Day had 22 and Lee Maybury had 16, but the rest of the team was no help.

The 6th seeded 88-89 Oklahoma Sooners used basically a 6 man rotation to blow out the 3rd seed, 88-89 Kansas Jayhawks, who had 12 players score in the game. The Sooners won 107-83. Oklahoma was led by Harvey Grant, who was unstoppable with 29 points and 14 rebounds. Ricky Grace had 18 points and 8 assists. Mookie Blaylock and Stacy King also had 18 points each in the win. For the Jayhawks, Danny Manning scored 23, but the only other guys in double figures were Milt Newton and Archie Marshall, with 10 each.

There will be 2 Duke teams in the Sweet 16 of the East bracket, as the 89-90 Blue Devils upset the 2nd seeded 01-02 Maryland Terapins, 90-83. Christian Laettner led Duke with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Phil Henderson added 16, while Robert Brickley and Alaa Abdelnaby each had 13 for Duke. Maryland was led by Lonnie Baxter and his 19 points, while Juan Dixon had 17.

Next, we head down to the Southeast and the surprise 16th seeded Ohio State team from 98-99.

Those 98-99 Buckeyes run comes to a quick end at the hands of the 9th seeded Michigan State team from 00-01. The Spartans won 90-77. Andre Hutson led the Spartans with 18 points and 10 boards. Zach Randolph had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Charlie Bell had 15 and Jason Richardson had 14 for the Spartans. Ohio State was led by Michael Redd with 18 points while Scoonie Penn had 14.

The 4th seeded 94-95 UCLA Bruins get by an extremely talented 98-99 Duke team, by a final score of 92-89. Ed O’Bannon scored 22 points for the Bruins, while Tyus Edney had 19. Charles O’Bannon added 15 and 7 boards. For the Devils, Trajan Langdon and Elton Brand each scored 16 points to lead Duke.

We have our first real Cinderella team as the 14th seeded 97-98 Stanford Cardinal pull off another upset by beating the 6th seeded 99-00 Florida Gators, 90-75. Arthur Lee and Kris Weems each had 14 to lead the Cardinal, while Tim Young and Peter Sauer had 11. Mad Mark Madsen added 10. Florida didn’t have a hot hand today, their leading scorer was Mike Miller with just a dozen. Kenyan Weaks had 11, while Udonis Haslem and Teddy Dupay each scored 10.

The Fab Five get into the sweet sixteen by upsetting the 2nd seeded 86-87 Indiana Hoosiers. The 92-93 Michigan Wolverines win 83-76. Michigan was led by Chris Webber, of course, who scored 22 points and had 9 rebounds. Juwan Howard added 19 points and Jalen Rose had 13. For Indiana, Steve Alford scored 22. Daryl Thomas had 15, while Dean Garrett had 13. Michigan outrebounded Indiana 39-27.

Time to head to the MidWest Bracket.

Another Number One seed falls! The 99-00 Michigan State Spartans lose to the 9th seeded Kansas Jayhawks from last season (01-02) by a final score of 98-82. Kansas was led by Drew Gooden, who exploded for 30 points and 13 rebounds. Jeff Boshee added 18. Nick Collison had 17 and 10 boards. Kirk Hinrich added 15. For the Spartans, Charlie Bell and Morris Petersen led the way with 15 points. Andre Hutson had 13, while Mateen Cleaves had 11 points and 9 assists.

Our first overtime game of the tournament sees the 5th seeded 86-87 Syracuse Ornagemen survive a big scare from the 13th seeded 94-95 UNC Tarheel. Syracuse ended up winning 94-91. The Orange was led by Rony Seikaly, who scored 21 points and had 13 rebounds. Sherman Douglas had 19 points, while Greg Monroe had 18. Derrick Coleman chipped in 11. For the Heels, Rasheed Wallace led the way with 21 points, while Jeff McInnis had 18. Jerry Stackhouse scored 17 and grabbed 11 boards.

We get another overtime game! The higher seed once again hangs on, as the 88-89 Michigan Wolverines get by the 6th seeded 00-01 Arizona Wildcats, 110-106. Glen Rice went off for Michigan, scoring 34 points. Rumeal Robinson and Sean Higgins each scored 18, while Loy Vaught added 15 for the Wolverines. Arizona was led by Gilbert Arenas with 20. Michael Wright had 22 and 16 rebounds, while Luke Walton had 13 and 10 boards. Loren Woods also added 16 points for the Cats.

The Big East gets their second team in the Sweet Sixteen in the Midwest, as the 7th seeded 88-89 Seton Hall Pirates take care of business against the 15th seeded, but dangerous, 98-99 Michigan State Spartans. The final was 81-73. The Hall was led by John Morton, who scored 19 points. Three other Hall players scored 12: Andrew Gaze, Ramon Ramos, and Daryll Walker. Morris Peterson led the Spartans with 16 points and 9 boards. Antonio Smith put on a glass cleaning clinic with 17 rebounds. Mateen Cleaves add a dozen for Michigan State.

We go to the West, where there are only 4 more spots left in the Sweet 16!

The 9th seeded 95-96 Umass Minutemen give the 89-90 UNLV team all they can handle, but the Rebels pull it off and defend their #1 seed by a final score of 86-84. Larry Johnson scored 20 points and had 7 rebounds to lead the Rebels. Anderson Hunt had 15, while David Butler scored 14 for the Rebels. Marcus Camby led the Minutemen with 20 points and 9 boards. Dana Dingle had 13 points and 16 rebounds, while Donta bright added 16 points and 8 boards. Umass actually dominated the glass and had a 47-29 advantage.

The 5th seeded 96-97 Kentucky Wildcats just blow away the 13th seeded 01-02 Oklahoma Sooners, 97-80. Derek Anderson led Kentucky with 20 points. Ron Mercer added 16, while Scott Padgent had 10 for the Wildcats. Hollis Price paced the Sooners with 21 points. Aaron McGhee had 14, and Jason Detrick added a dozen.

In a battle of Cinderella teams, the 11th seeded Georgia Tech Yellowjackets beat the 14th seeded UNC Tarheels, 89-79. The Jackets were led by Brian Oliver and Dennis Scott, who both scored 24 points. Kenny Anderson was right behind them with 23 points. Malcolm Mackey added 7 points, but really contributed with 12 rebounds. The Heels were led by Rick Fox with 18, Pete Chilcutt with 16 and Hubert Davis with 15.

Our final second round game goes to overtime, and the higher seed once again survives a big scare. The 2nd seed, 00-01 Duke Blue Devils win 112-108 over the 10th seeded 92-93 Kentucky Wildcats. Duke was led by Jason Williams with 24 points. Carlos Boozer had 20 points and 7 rebounds. Shane Battier had 19 and 9. Nate James also scored 19 for Duke. For the Wildcats, Jamal Mashburn led the way with 24, while Travis Ford scored 20.

It is time for the Sweet 16!

Starting in the East Bracket.

Right off the bat, the third number one seed of the tournament falls. The 4th seeded 92-93 UNC Tarheels barely get by the 1st seeded 91-92 Duke Blue Devils, 87-85. George Lynch led the way for the Heels with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Eric Montross and Donald Williams each scored 18, and Brian Reese chipped in 10 for the Heels. For Duke, Christian Laettner led the way with 25 points and 7 boards. Thomas Hill and Bobby Hurley added 13 each.

Duke really struggled in the East bracket, as the 6th seeded 87-88 Oklahoma Sooners just beat up on the 7th seeded 89-90 Duke team, 109-96. Stacy King was unstoppable for Oklahoma, scoring 25 points and pulling down 14 boards. Harvey Grant was almost as good, scoring 20 and getting 10 rebounds. Mookie Blaylock added 17 while Ricky Grace had 14. Duke was led by Phil Henderson and his 20 points. Alaa Abdelnaby had 19, while Laettner had 18 in the losing cause.

We go to the Midwest Bracket.

My beloved 5th seeded 86-87 Syracuse Orangemen could not hold off a strong 9th seeded 01-02 Kansas Jayhawks team. Kansas won 98-84. Kansas was led by Grew Gooden with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Nick Collison also had a double, double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Jeff Boshee scored 18 points as well. Kirk Hinrich added 17 points and 7 assists. For Syracuse, Howard Triche led the way with 18 points, while Greg Monroe had 15 and Rony Seikaly had 14 points and 14 rebounds.

In a rematch of the 88-89 Title game, Michigan, the 3 seed once again wins a close one over the 7th seeded Seton Hall Pirates, 93-92. Michigan was led by Glen Rice with 26 points. Rumeal Robinson scored 16. Terry Mills, Sean Higgins, and Loy Vaught each scored a dozen. For Seton Hall, John Morton led the team in scoring with 21. Ramon Rmos scored 16 and had 12 rebounds. Andrew Gaze also scored 16 for the Pirates.

Next we move to the Southeast Bracket.

In the first game the higher seed holds serve. The 4th seeded 94-95 UCLA Bruins beat the 9th seeded 00-01 Michigan State Spartans, 91-82. The Bruins were led by Ed O’Bannon with 22 points and 12 boards. Tyus Edney scored 17, while Toby Bailey had 14. Three more Bruins scored in the double figures, JR Henderson and Charles O’Bannon had 12 each and George Zidek had 10. For the Spartans, Charlie Bell had 17 and 8 assists, while Jason Richardson had 16. Andre Hutson chipped in with 15.

The Cinderella run of the 14th seeded 97-98 Stanford Cardinal comes to an end at the hands of the 7th seeded 92-93 Michigan Wolverines, 80-78. Chris Webber led the Wolverines with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Jalen Rose had 16 and Juwan Howard added 15 for Michigan. Stanford was led by Mad Mark Madsen with 14 points. Peter Sauer had 12 and Arthur Lee had 11 for the Cardinal.

Marmel
03-07-2003, 08:21 PM
We close out the third round in the West Bracket, where the only remaining #1 seed remains.

…and that #1 seed moves on. The Running Rebels from 89-90 hang on to win against a fierce 5th seeded 96-97 Kentucky Wildcat team, 94-87. Anderson Hunt led the Rebels in scoring with 17 points. Larry Johnson put on a show with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Stacey Augmon had 11 points, but also pulled down 9 boards. David Butler added 16 points. For the Wildacts, Derek Anderson led the way with 17 points. Ron Mercer had 14, and Allen Edwards added 11 points.

In a game that featured both teams lighting up the scoreboard, a Duke team finally gets through to the final 8. The 2nd seeded 00-01 Duke Blue Devils outgun the 11th seeded 89-90 Georgia Tech Yellowjackets, 102-91. Jason Williams was brilliant for Duke, scoring 30 points and dishing out 12 assists. Shane Battier also poured in 24 points. Nate James had 12 while Carlos Boozer had 11 points. The Jackets had 3 scoring machines on the day, but no other help. Dennis Scott had 25, while Kenny Anderson had 24, and Brian Oliver had 23 points. No other Yellowjacket had more than 8, and that was their undoing.

This sets up a terrific Elite 8 matchup between the 89-90 UNLV team and the 00-01 Duke squad. A 1 vs. 2 seed game!

The Bruins used very balanced scoring to take the victory and the 2nd spot in the Final Four. Ed O’Bannon had 20 points and 6 rebounds. Tyus Edney scored 18 and had 5 assists. JR Henderson and George Zidek each scored a dozen. Charles O’Bannon and Toby Bailey each scored 11 points for the Bruins.

Chris Webber led Michigan with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Juwan Howard added 15 points and 12 rebounds. Jalen Rose also scored 15 points. Jimmy King added 13 points, but the lack of scoring from the bench, which UCLA had, eventually did in the Wolverines.

In the Midwest…

The 3 seed, 88-89 Michigan Wolverines take on the 9seed, 01-02 Kansas Jayhawks.

This one was never close from tip off to final buzzer as the Wolverines dismantle the Jayhawks, 94-77.

Glen Rice led the way for Michigan with 24 points and 6 rebounds. Loy Vaught had 20 points and 10 boards. Terry Mills chipped in 14 points, while Rumeal Robinson had 11 and Sean Higgings added 10.

For the Jayhawks, Drew Gooden and Kirk Heinrich each scored 16 points. Gooden pulled down 10 rebounds. Nick Collison had 15 points and 9 boards. Jeff Boshee scored 13. Aaron Miles had 13 assists, but once again a lack of scoring other than from the top players did a team in.

I only got 2 pts. in the last round, rather than 4. I think the confusion was my selection of 92-93 Michigan (which lost) vs. my non-selection of 88-89 Michigan (which won).

So, my total points are 47, giving Jeeber a 4-point lead. And he'll need them 'cause I'm gonna sweep the remaining games.:D

It's official. I suck at picking brackets in this game. I hope that doesn't translate to the real NCAA's this year.

(Let's see, I predict an all-Cheesehead Final, Wisconsin vs. Marquette - yeah....that will happen)

Hey Marm, can we get this finished up fairly quickly? I'm going out of town for a week starting Monday and I don't want to have to forfeit this contest to Grid Iron. :)

In our second matchup, the 94-95 UCLA Bruins take on the 88-89 Michigan Wolverines.

UCLA only got 3 points from their team outside of their top 6 scorers. The lack of any depth killed them in this game, and down the stretch, Michigan took control and won this game 96-87.

Glen Rice was a scoring machine, dropping in 26 points on 10 for 17 shooting. Rumeal Robinson added 18 for the Wolverines. Loy Vaught added 16 and had 9 rebounds on the day. Terry Mills and Sean Higgins each scored in double figures.

For the Bruins, Tyus Edney was on fire, scoring 21 and handing out 12 assists. Ed O’Bannon had 16 points and 9 rebounds. Charles O’Bannon, Toby Bailey and George Zidek each scored a dozen in the losing cause.

Get your picks in ASAP, and when I have them all I will do this...probably tuesday or wednesday at the latest though.

To stay alive, I need to pick the winner, and Jeeber needs to pick the loser. How do I do that?

1) pick the favorite in the hope that Jeeber will select the underdog?

or

2) pick the underdog with the expectation that Jeeber will pick the favorite?

Decisions, decisions. . . ;)

JeeberD

So, who do you consider to be the favorite? That would seem to be a tough decision in itself...

Considering I'm out of it because I forgot a round (oops), my pick needs not be a secret. I'm going with Michigan, a team I actually saw in person that year at the Southeast regional. That team had talent, but Rice was simply a one man show during those two days.

WooHoo!!

Great dynstasy, Marm. I had a great time following it. I hope that you decide to do something like this again soon...

Grid- That last round reminded me of that scene in "The Princess Bride" in which the bald dude was trying to figure out which glass of wine was poisoned. Lotsa fun...
