Yale? Kind of odd. I knew he redshirted last year, and I didn't see him on the roster this year. I was afraid to ask my old coaches what happened to him.

He wants a better degree coming from a top notch college maybe.

I didn't catch what you say. Is that a yes ? or is that a no-way Alf, that's a stupid answer !

Both. The weird part was I met him as junior when I came off deployment and observed practices. He was already a lock for ISU at the time. From my understanding his dad went/played there and his family was originally from Iowa.

Just a little odd to me that he switched out after his freshman year.

It happens more often than you think. Heck, you'd be surprised at the number of people that transfer from division I-A schools to division I-AA schools after their Freshman or Sophomore years.

Not really too surprising. The Ivy League gets a few 1-A transfers a year.

Since the Ivy League is 1-AA, the 1-A transfers can play right away without sitting out (which is another attraction).

Exactly. I think it's probable half this factor, half the degree thing. I mean, unless he has SERIOUS NFL aspirations, it's a good move most likely.

Why would you go to Iowa State when Yale is an option? That would have been the crazy choice, imo.

It really all depends on what you are looking for and your family's financial situation, among other factors. If you have legitimate NFL potential, as cthomer mentions, you might be better off at a BCS school.

Also, remember, the Ivy League does not offer merit scholarships. So, for some families, there is a choice between a full ride at a scholarship school, and a financial aid package at an Ivy. Granted, depending on the family situation, the Ivy package could be quite generous, but it may not cover all of the costs...

Well, I think he made a very wise move.

Especially when I read about fringe players at UT sitting for 4 years and using their 5th year of eligibility at Tennessee Tech.
