Wow, I can't believe I found this site, what a relief! I hope someone can help me.
I live in the UK and have The Fourth Edition I bought on disk a few years back, and previously have bought and downloaded earlier versions.
I have been frustrated in my attempts to edit the player file in The Fourth Edition to have real NFL players in it, as I find that after one season the game crashes, so I presume some details I changed in the player file may have been out a bit and caused this?
So, what I want to know is, is there an up-to-date NFL player file that some genius has created with real NFL players on? And if so, where can I find it, and is it easy to install for a non-computer whizz! I don't think I downloaded a patch correctly before as it didn't seem to work, so I'm a bit hopeless with patches and stuff! Easy instructions please!
The other thing I may as well ask whilst I'm here is should I purchase the latest version of the game before adding any player files etc? Is the newer version that much better again? And are all player files compatible on all versions?

I don't think the player files are compatible but it has been a long time since I played the old version. If you have the extra cash around I highly recommend the newer version. The AI is much better(though still some issues), the screens and interface are cleaner, and multiplayer if you are into that.

Thanks for your help guys, if anyone has anything else to add, I'd appreciate it. When I download the player files do I just put them into universe and then click on the player file when I load up?
