Tiger Woods picked up his 12th major at the weekend, and again pretty much blew out the field on the final day. Jack Nicklaus won 18 majors in his career. The simple question is, how long before Woods overtakes Nicklaus?
Sidetopic: Who wins, a tiger or a bear? Assume the bigest, meanest and brutalest specemin from each genus in a best of three matchup (one game with home habitat advantage each, one at a neutral venue).

And I'll take the tiger.

Trout kicks both their asses...with one fin tied behind his back.

I'll take the strength of the meanest bear over a tiger. However, I'll take Tiger over Nicklaus (and relatively soon.)

Tiger won't be denied.

Tiger > Bear
bear > tiger
While the tiger is a formidable attacking animal, the bear can sustain a lot more damage and if it manages to pin or stun the tiger, it's all over.

Did anyone watch the PGA yesterday? My wife had it on and I caught parts of it. It went like this:

Tiger Woods will eventually get a street named after him in El Paso, but he will not overtake Nicklaus.

He's averaging about 1.75 majors won per year during his current stretch & earlier peak. Keeping that pace puts him on pace to eclipse Nicklaus at the end of 2010. To account for injury, aging, and to add a little wiggle room, I went with 2011.

3 years and I take the Bear to destroy a Tiger. The Tiger would probably just run.

I think you can pencil him in as The Masters winner next year. With two majors in the bag and going to his favorite tournament, I think he'll have laser focus on that thing. It probably won't be close.
That means he could very easily being heading into the US Open next year looking to complete another Tiger Slam at Oakmont. That might be interesting since he's apparently never played there. That could level the playing field a bit.
Also of note: in 2008 the U.S. Open goes to Torrey Pines, which is Tiger's boyhood course, a place where he has won two or three times as a pro and where he owns the course record; in 2009 the Open goes to Bethpage Black, where Tiger won in 2002; and in 2010 it goes to Pebble Beach where Tiger lapped the field in 2000.
Anybody want to place bets against Tiger winning all three of those? It's almost like they set the schedule just for him.
