Report: Ex-Duke star Redick arrested for DWI
ESPN.com news services
J.J. Redick, a likely first-round pick in this month's NBA draft, was arrested for driving while impaired early Tuesday and has was released on $1,000 bond, a Raleigh-Durham, N.C., television station reported.
WTVD, citing a police report, said that Redick was arrested at 1:03 a.m. in Durham, N.C., after the former Duke star made an illegal U-turn to avoid a police checkpoint.
The television station reported that Redick is scheduled to appear in a Durham court on July 17.
The NBA draft is scheduled June 28 in New York City. How an arrest will affect Redick's draft status is unclear.
"I think that these things hurt anybody's draft status," an Eastern Conference GM, who wanted to remain anonymous, told ESPN.com's Andy Katz. "They do in my eyes. I take these things seriously. That's too bad."
Redick had previously pulled out of scheduled workouts with Orlando and Boston this week. Previously, he had worked out for Golden State, Utah, Houston and Seattle.
Among the teams reportedly interested in Redick is Houston, which has the No. 8 pick.
Redick, who won the 2006 Wooden Award as the nation's top college player, shot 47 percent from the field, 42 percent from 3-point range and 85 percent from the free throw line in leading Duke to a 32-4 record. He finished his career with 2,769 points and 457 3-pointers.

Bad time to be stupid. What's wrong with Duke these days?
Sounds like another Duke NBA bust to me.
Being the Duke fan that I am, I feel like I need to respond to this. I see where one would be coming from by saying that, because not all too many Duke players have gone on to great success in the NBA like UNC players have. However, now this is only the way I see it, Duke always seemed to produce great college players who could play the college game very well. They never seemed to get the guys who could take that next step, but im sure they dont care, they bring them to Duke to win NCAA championships, not NBA ones. So my point is, and I agree with you that Redick wont be much of an NBA player, but I think it's semi-foolish for people to think just bc a player went to Duke and did very well that he is destined for stardom in the NBA. I think people expect them to be MVPs, where if Redick becomes a pretty reliable 6th man I would think he was a success and not a bust bc thats all I really saw him being anyway.

Well, he was big time on Utah's radar, I don't think they would attempt for him now. I hate to say that off of one incident, but Larry Miller is a stickler that way.

I have a feeling that this will be looked upon as a one time thing. It won't improve his draft status but I don't believe a team that really wants him is going to pass on him because of it.

By the way, next time the US plays, I'm going to accidentally post a spoiler that they won with a thrilling comeback for the ages. Just so all the people who insist on watching sports on a 12-hour delay in the 21st century can sit there watching them lose 4-0 with six minutes left, looking at their watch and wondering when the comeback starts.

Not to get all serious on your joke...
But what is wrong with watching a sport on a 12-hour delay in the 21st century?
The 21st Century gives us the best technology ever to do this. And, with jobs, many people still want to watch these events when they're done working without knowing what has happened. This is one of the main points to this 21st Century technology.

We had the technology thirty years ago. It was called television. It worked back then because it was all we had. Not anymore.
It's one thing to watch the Miracle on Ice tape delayed in 1980, because it wasn't hard to avoid knowing the results. But today information flows around the world quickly and it's almost impossible to avoid important news (like World Cup scores). This isn't like somebody spoiling the end of your favorite TV show just to be a jerk -- people are going to be discussing this sort of thing because it's already old news once the game ends.
We have options now that we couldn't dream of back then. If you really care about the results of a game, then find a way to watch it online (or listen to it, or get live updates, etc). If your job and/or lifestyle doesn't allow that, or you choose not to, then fine. You're welcome to try to avoid the results, and for some people that may be easier for others. But don't merrily keep on surfing sports sites on the internet and then pitch an indignant fit when you have the results of a major sporting event "spoiled" for you.

I think it's a bit generational too. To mean I see no value in watching anything taped sports wise. Unless I can see it when it happens it doesn't interest me to be "surprised". Maybe that's because that's the way it was when I was growing up. Either you were there to see it or not.
I know we had vcrs and stuff but I rarely had an interest in doing the tape it, hide from the world thing to watch it.
I guess it just wasn't that important to me so I can see people getting a kick out of the being spoiled anger of it all.

Yeah, perhaps it is. I find the excitement to be sucked out of most sports events I tape, but sometimes that's the only way I can watch something.

see I would argue for those events you really care about you'd watch it anyway...even if you knew the results. the rest you end up fast watching through most of it anyway.
like for me the only games I would watch knowing the score would be Patriot games. and probably only big games to watch the whole thing. beyond that tell me who won, I'll read about it and move on to when I can watch games live if I'm interested to.

I'm still angry over Roethlisberger being refered to as Super Bowl winning quarterback in the thread about his accident. I'd taped the Super Bowl and was planning on watching it next week, but now that's ruined... :(

The only sporting event I've ever taped to watch was the season ending Duke-UNC game. After doing the whole avoid everything sports for 12 hours and seeing Duke lose, I felt all of that effort was a waste of time. So, I won't do this again. I'll just find out when I find out.

I can't think of a single sporting event I cared about that I'd watch on a 12-hour delay. Then again, I tend to put a disproportionate emphasis on sports in my life, so I might be a bad example.
I've tivo'd games in the past when I was at a family event (i.e. my wife made me go somewhere), but that usually just involves driving home without the radio on. I can't imagine thinking you could get through a whole day without hearing something about a game, unless it was something nobody cared about like a spelling bee or the NHL playoffs.
