the reactions of the Jets fans are priceless.I love the psychology of the draft from the fans' perspective.
We all know that the draft is a crap shoot. Lots of first round picks flame out, and lots of late picks break out. Sure, from a general point of view, we can say that more early round picks become good NFL players than late round picks. But the more we try to micro-analyize the draft, the more we see that you can't say anything for certain about any given pick--and that the difference between, say, the 20th pick in the first round and the 1st pick in the second round is pretty small--if it exists at all.
But fans (myself included) manage to work ourselves into a frenzy over the smallest details of the draft. We fixate on certain players who we know will be great and certain players who we know will bust--and we get really emotional if our teams pick or don't pick those players. Go to any team message board on the day after the draft and you will find guys who seem ready to kill themselves because the team picked Joe Blow in the fourth round when Jack Smith was still on the board (and picked up later in the round I might add).
It's a fun dynamic to watch--and one in which I love to be involved.

apparently the Jets just loooove to pick TE's in the first round.
seriously speaking, how many franchise TE's have developed over the last 20 years that you could honestly say it's worth it to take a TE that high? i mean, you got Tony Gonzo, Todd Heap, Alge Crumpler and obviously Shannon Sharpe. those are 4 of the can't-not-have TEs to have emerged over the last 15 or so year, moreso with Tony Gonzo and Sharpe. not sure which, if any, of these 4 were 1at round picks, but the point is you're not talking about RB's or WR's, where you have at *least* one standout annual Pro Bowl player for the next 5 years of his career at the position. outside of those 4 TEs, the rest you can say are take it or leave it. so are they really worth first round picks? there's a reason FBs don't go in the first round, they just aren't the integral to the game (to the point where FBs nowadays are just undersized blocking TEs).
just wondering how the Jets could have taken Kyle Brady and Anthony Becht and both kinda turned out to have just blah careers. if i were the Jets i'd stay away from that position, they just don't have much luck.

Hahahaha. That's awesome.
So they really took Brady over Sapp and O'Brien over Marino? When the smart picks were Sapp/Marino?

It didn't work out so well for them, but they weren't alone in passing over Marino, and they came out better than the Chiefs (who took Todd Blackledge at #7) and the Patriots (who took Tony Eason at #15). O'Brien, at least, was a two-time Pro Bowler, and had a decent career.
I remember at the time Marino's senior season at Pitt was considered a disappointment, and a lot of teams were shying away from him for that reason. They were obviously wrong.

Also, Warrenn Sapp had some red flags heading into the draft, reportedly testing positive for drugs at the combine. Whether they took Sapp or not, I hated the Brady pick from day 1. The guy was a total stiff.

Also, I believe there were some allegations that Marino would have got along well with Ricky Williams.

Marino, meh. Jets did just as well as Miami did with O'Brien. Eason was a bargain. If you are going to win zero superbowls might as well save some dough.

Yeah, they decided that it just wasn't smart to keep drafting TEs with first-rounders. So they traded a first for Doug Jolley...who immediately became the #2 TE behind Chris Baker.

I never really understood that one. I was laughing that day and still am. An unbelievable head scratcher. Maybe Mangini and crew can do a better job.
