I love Fox for showing the fans with the Fire Millen sign running around the stadium holding the sign, passing it off fan to fan. They were being high fived, cheered and encouraged to keep going before security finally tackled the guy with the sign.

The crowd is cheering when Minnesota scores on an INT and then booed when they found out it was called back for roughing the passer.

Numerous fire Millen chants are also heard.

This team is like watching a car wreck. You wanna' turn away but morbid curiousty keeps you fixated.

This was touched on in the NFL Week 13 thread but I felt it needed it's own thread so people not keeping tabs on that one can see how big of a joke this has become.

Stop crying. Millen doesn't deserve anything other than scorn.

I am glad you enjoy the Lions being a travesty, a sham, and a mockery. Live it up.

Well HB, it's not exactly like there's anyone to blame but themselves for that.

I know... Boy, do I know. I still find it depressing, perhaps even more so because of it.

I'm as big of a Lions fan as you, and I feel the pain of the shittiness as much as you. The reason I'm happy about all of this is that perhaps this will finally wake up the Ford (very slim chance), and create a real change within the organization.

Firing Millen and showing ownership that Lions fans are fed up over this joke of an organization is the only way the Lions will ever have a chance to succeed in the future.

Well, if that happens, it's for the greater good. If not (which is more likely than not) this is just yet another embarassing chapter for the craptacular story that is the Lions organization.

This is the correct answer.

It was a surreal atmosphere at that game today. Probably half the crowd started cheering on the Minnesota TD return that got called back. It is only things like that that could ever possible shake the management/ownership out of the malaise it is currently in.

Exactly. Perhaps the Fords will see this shit going on and realize they are beginning to lose the fans entirely.

Sometimes you need a really ugly year or two for the greater good of the team.

I agree (hey I'm a part of the Raider Nation), but the sad thing is that they players, coaches, and fans will have lost a couple of years.

What does the team's P&L statement look like? Worse than the league average?
Better? About the same?

'Cause unless it hits them in the wallet I don't know if a little embarassment is going to make much of an impact. After all, it hasn't in the past, why would it now?

I am only guessing, but I would have to say its pretty good. The games are sold out every week, except for some of the club seats. I'd have to imagine merchandising is relatively solid, judging by the huge lines to get into the club store every week. The only reason I think the embarassment may cause changes now is because of the crowd reaction to the team today. I've never seen such a negative response and I can only imagine it will get worse for the last home game. Trust me, I'm not exactly holding out much hope, but the hope I have comes from the embarassment factor. Which is pretty fucking sad.

What I want to know is how someone would think Millen would make a good President & CEO of the Lions organization. As far as I'm aware, he had no previous experience managing a business of that size, and/or of managing a professional team.

You know what? This is a really good question. I'd be interested in hearing the answer to this as well.

The guy was a Madden-wannabe announcer. That's all he was. How his name started being thrown around as a legitimate front office prospect, I'll never understand.

when you're a color man on tv and you talk like you know everything and act like you got all the answers, it's not hard to believe someone would be gullible into thinking you actually *do* know everything and you actually *do* have all the answers.

the quick answer is he was a good color announcer for FOX who could break down a team pretty good. that's all. someone thought that meant he could run a team.

Keep in mind Ford Field has less seats than the Silverdome.

Boycott one of the games if you want to hit them where it hurts (in the pocketbook).

Yeah, but the Silverdome would only sell out maybe twice a season. Plus, ticket prices are higher at Ford Field, and there are more club seats and luxury suites. I figure its pretty much about the same, if not more, than they pulled in at the Silverdome. Not to mention, the Lions control the concessions at Ford Field; I think the Silverdome controlled their own concessions.

Its a nice idea but, again, wouldn't hurt that much since all but about 3,000 of the seats are for season tickets, and the rest usually sell out before the season starts anyways. They've already got their money, although they would lose out on concessions and merchandising.

What's really a shame is Detroit is not far from being a decent team. They have the basis for a good defense in place, starting with Shaun Rogers. They have some decent running backs. But they need to get a real quarterback. I can't believe they thought Garcia would be an upgrade. He's done nothing in the last 3 years.

Of course, I can't remember Detroit having a decent quarterback in the last 20 years besides one year flashes in the pan. So build on that defense and try to win like Chicago does.

Their wideouts are very suspect. Roy Williams may give you a great play during a game, but he's inconsistent. Mike Williams is only a rookie, but he's quick becoming a big, slow footed receiver or a less-than-ideal receiving tight end. Charles Rogers apparently is so bad that he was a healthy scratch. One of the Lions' starting wideouts is undfrafted free agent Scottie Vines and Troy "Freaking" Edwards.

Last 20 years? You can go back much further than that for the last time the Lions had a decent quarterback.

Bobby Lane seems to leap to mind, he was a QB wasn't he? Or am I in the wrong century altogether? ;)
