Three miles. I'm going to hate taking another job after this one because I highly doubt I'll be this close to work ever again.

I drive as far as TK when I'm at home, but then again I have a home office. But most of the time I'm travelling, so it's 1500 miles to Miami, and 2000 to San Jose... :D

Heh, you too? It's painful. I got a good sized raise with my new job, but I can't tell the difference.

When officially do I get to work? I leave, and 4,000-5,800 miles later I give up and come back home.

I used to commute 83 miles each way, which makes the 8 (almost all highway) miles each way at my current gig absolutely glorious.

I average 32 miles round trip. It's a pity you need a car to really get anywhere in San Diego, unless you take the trolley/bus, etc.

Do you people who live less than 5 or 10 miles from work actually DRIVE?
I only hope that when I find a job, it'll be so close to my place (within 15 or 20 miles) so I can bike to work. If I lived less than 5 miles from work, I'd have a tough time justifying starting the car to go to work (unless there was a good reason, such as staying insanely late or giving a presentation or having to go to an offsite meeting from work or something)...

I always wondered why San Diego doesn't try to put in some kind of rail/subway system. Even LA of all places is making an effort.....

I drive. For one thing, I need the truck during the course of the day. But also it's been over 90 for like 50 days in a row and working up a sweat before I get to work is not appealing to me. Less so to my co-workers. http://dynamic.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif

I do.
but, in my defense my wife gets out of work at 5:30 and I work at 6 - we barely have time to say hi and bye and for me to hand off the kids as it is.

plus, my wife would never allow me to walk home at 2am.

.5 round trip, when the weather isn't so frickin humid I'll walk

terpkristin

I understand weather issues. Just asking, in general (and as for the 2 a.m. thing, if I had a job and I knew I was going to be working past 9 p.m., I'd be driving, too)

Zero, ever since we went into business for ourselves.

Prior to that, 62 miles each way.

I try to take public transportation when I can, but it can turn a 15 minute trip into a 60 minute trip. Also, if you are pulling 15 hour days, the last thing you want to do is schlep to the train station after work (if the trains are still running at that time of night...)

about 3 miles one way on back roads with almost no traffic. Sometimes i get stuck at the one traffic light and it takes me almost 7 minutes to get to work. On a good day i can make it there in 5. It's great to be able to roll out of bed at 7:30 and still have plenty of time for breakfast and reading the paper and still be at work for 8

Oh yeah. I also wanted to say I'm not judging anybody for driving. There are plenty of valid reasons to do it (and public transport in Columbia, MD SUCKS so I sympathize with the "15 minute trip in 75" thing). Just was curious. Maybe I just lust for a job where I can bike commute. :)

I knew a guy who jogged 6 miles to work every day--he was in tremendous shape (he was a coach at the local high school). It's a pretty rare thing--most American towns are so car-dominant and pedestrian-unfriendly, you are likely to get run over if you tried to walk/bike it...

29.4 miles one way. Bought a house that moved me closer to where I was working, then got a new job that was only 10 miles away from where I had been living. Commute isn't bad, but it's 1.5 hours and a lot of gas wasted every day.

0 miles. I don't have a job, either. :(

I hope that I can find a job here in Greensburg or perhaps in the next town over. Unfortunately, I think I might have to work in Pittsburgh, which is 35 miles away. I drove my wife to the Pittsburgh airport the other day, and that's 51 miles away from my house. I was feeling carsick before I even got back home. :(

I also drive the short distance to work and it is mainly because of weather circumstances (half the year it's a bit too cold to walk the three miles, though lately it's also been pretty warm by Michigan standards).

I should add that some point next year, we are scheduled to move back downtown near the campus, so driving a car will be out because of the insane parking permit fees the university charges. Back to the bus system again, which is free for UM employees (we used to be downtown, but space issues bumped us out near I-94 for the last several years).

16 miles each way. Takes me about 30 minutes in the morning, 45 in the afternoon.

Thinking about moving to Fredericksburg, which would mean a 50 mile (and probably 90 minute commute). If I did that I'd probably start taking the train.

I shower at work. Nothing finer then a shower at the office. :D

When I get into our main office that is.

76 miles total for me. I work a 4x10 schedule @ Boeing, and it's off-shift so traffic isn't bad at all.

I have an interview Thursday for a job that will let me work from home every day. :) Virtual Office would rock! That would save me roughly $200 a month in gas, and no more wear and tear on my car.

Silly man...living on the East side when you worked on base.
