Just curious. Have you served or are you currently with any of the armed services?

My squadron has 8 programmers with 2 more on the way. We need about 2. Programmer career field is really screwed up right now.

That's mostly because they can't make up their mind if they want us or not.

I do think that they're really phasing the Programmer career field out and going to civilians for the whole thing, what happened at my work, and most of my friends from Tech School also.

Can't really blame them, it's a career that doesn't lend itself well to the military way of doing things.

I agree. I knew one programmer at Los Angeles Air Force Base who's slot was converted to civilian. He got out, took the slot, and is making triple the ammount he was making in the military...but now he doesn't have to deploy or do all the other bullshit you have to do if you are uniformed.

Lucky bastard. :)

I worked a joint assignment in Ankara (and Japan back in the day) and really enjoyed working with the Army folks. The Navy has pretty good guys too, but they talk funny. :)

LIMA 4 only means that Im a canary in a humvee. ;) Ok LIMA4 is basically the top dogs of NBC ops. Were trained in Biological agent detection , a mobile laboratory. BIDS means Biological Integrated Detection System.

Damn, everyone here seems pretty impressive. I am just a simple Marine Corps Brat. I haven't seen Marine Corps mentioned once here. I was only minutes away from being in the Air Force, but the "Dragon Lady" over at San Diego MEPS prevented me from getting in because I supposedly showed signs of asthma even though I ran track for 5 years and cross country for 1 year.

yes sir, that would be correct. We often were supporting special ops or just Army units since they had no Weather folks themselves.

I remember seeing those guys walk around Fort Bragg. I never directly interacted with any of them, but I assume we did some training together somewhere. I was there for a while under the JSOC command - although I can't remember exactly what it was called. JSOC or SOC or something like that... was a long time ago!
