Man. I took about 3 weeks off from my FM2005 Liverpool career (back-to-back EPL winners, won the Quad two years back) before firing the thing back up last night, and with the flip of a switch I was sucked back in. Didn't even bother me that Ledley King broke his leg (up to 5 months) and Rafael van der Vaart needed surgery on his spine (at least 5 months) before the season even started! :)

Amazing game.

it is really really addicting. too damn addicting in my mind. when i was taking time off of school i used to pretty regularly exist on 4 hours of sleep or less and just basically work and then play CM all night long without food or water or anything. Just me and the computer. Now I've mellowed a bit, but I can still easily get immersed for 4-5 hours at a time, which is the only game where I find this to be true, including FOF (which is more of a multitasking-game). Although with R:TW I do come pretty close to the 4-5 hour mark.

I've got quite the dilemma right now. Entering the season, my mids are kinda stacked towards the left side.

I've got Kewell who is one of the best in the world right now:

2007 European Midfielder of the Year
2007 European Footballer of the Year Runner Up (Cisse)
2007 World Player of the Year
2007 World Footballer of the Year Third Place (Cisse)
2007 European Champions League Best Player
2007 European Champions League Dream Team
2005 European Champions League Best Player Third Place
2005 European Champions League Dream Team
2004 European Midfielder of the Year Runner Up
2004 World Footballer of the Year Third Place

He's playing ML. I've got Gerrard and Xabi Alonso in the middle, with Joey Barton, Welsh, and Sneijder backing them up.

On the MR, I have Sneijder playing there for now, but I don't think that's a good spot for him. He played a lot in the MC role last year when Gerrard was out, and had 10 goals (13 assists). However, Gerrard is back, and Sneijder isn't great on the wing. My other option is Richie Partridge on the wing who honestly plays his A$$ off when he's put out there, and had to play almost a whole season once and played well. The problem is, his ratings are just "good" on a team full of GREAT players. He plays great, but I'm skeptical. So Real Madrid has offered $40 mil (US) for Sneijder. I could take that and my $38 mil. of transfer money and get some absolute freak out for the MR, but I'm worried about the chemistry...

I've never played CM. Can someone who's not really into soccer get into CW?

Well, it's FM now! ;)

But yeah, I think you can...but thing with me was, I had just never paid attention to soccer/football. Once I started playing, I started watching and got REALLY into it.

I mean, if you're playing and still don't like the game you prob. won't get into it, but I can't tell you how many times I've scored a goal with 5-10 minutes left in a game and pumped my fist and nodded my head with extreme confidence.

Sounds crazy, but you get way into the game.

Yes. and No.

It really depends. I had never been a fan of soccer. Never played or watched the game outside of watching a World Cup game every now and again.

Knew nothing about strategies, terminology, or teams.

I picked up a version of CM (I think my first version was 3, but I can't remember) and played it. And couldn't get into it. Then a few months later I came back to it. Still a no go. I kept hearing great things about the game and gave it another shot. It clicked. I was addicted. Now I'll pay attention to soccer worldwide and I'll pick up every new version SI puts out.

I still play FOF a bit more, because I like being able to progress through seasons faster. But CM has a prized place on my shelf.

There are others who were never able to get into it. Skydog and Bucc just to name a pair.

Download the demo and give it a shot, you have nothing to lose.

The learning curve can be steep, especially if you know nothing about soccer. However, the gameplay is excellent, far superior to any other text sim out there. It's almost wrong to call it a text sim since it's so immersive. It's really whether you can get over the learning curve and don't mind that it's soccer (if you're not a fan).

Sneijder is a GOD. ABSOLUTE FRIKKING AMAZING. In one of my "fool around with a bunch of $$" games that I did when I first loaded up FM I bought him to Real Madrid. Within a year he had displaced Zidane as my starting AMC and actually increased the performance of the position. Hold tight to him!

Gosh if I can stick with the same club for more than 1+ seasons I'll be happy. Course this is my first year "addicted" to this thing. My "hope" is that OOTP will add some of the depth this game has and if so--- LOOK OUT.

Congrats! The only thing FM is really missing is The Haunitng yet beautiful Champion's League anthem.
