I didn't know whether to burst out in laugher, stare with disbelief at the lack of writing quality, or be upset at NBC for pushing their agenda on the viewers.

I have missed alot of episodes this year but I knew this was her last episode because of TV Guide. Was the whole lesbo thing brand new? I didnt know her character was gay until then.

And wow, that was some really awkward dialogue.

I don't know if it was the dialogue that was so awkward, or her awful acting. I have been fired a few times (surprise!) and not once have I ever been told "You're Fired." It's always something to the effect of "We have decided to let you go."

But the "It's not because I'm a lesbian, is it?" line was not only awful, but so poorly delivered that I think that Fred Thompson could have delivered it more believably! Funniest damn thing on Law & Order EVER!!! I almost coughed up my spleen I laughed so hard!!!

I once fired myself. :D

I had a racist boss on a job that was winding down. There were two employees left, me and this black guy. This guy was 10 times the worker I was, was struggling to raise a family and absolutely needed the job to keep himself from going back to prison. He was also a friend of mine.

I was just working a summer job before school started back up.

They let him go and kept me. I got the boss to admit it was because he was black. That day at lunch, I went to the bar at the corner and all the guys who'd worked there were there. We got smash loaded drunk and right before quitting time I went back to the job, plastered and went up to the boss.

"I'm fired right?"

He took a minute then nodded his head.

"Fine, now give me my damned check."

He did and I was gone but he hired my friend back and he worked there until the money dried up and the job went away. :)

I think I taught him something that day and I do know if he was pissed about it he never showed it in the few times I saw him after that.

PS: That was the only time I'd ever seen anything racist from this boss and I was the only non black who worked for him on the job. I don't want to make it seem like he was a card carrying KKK guy or anything he was more just an old scared hispanic who would have preferred working with another hispanic. It's still racist but certainly not an overt or blatant one. He probably didn't even know he was racist.

This ought to be good for several days, maybe even weeks, worth of discussion & debate. Since reading the thread here, I've seen quite a few theories about this little surprise:

1) It was to set-up a multi-episode arc with her suing for discrimination.
2) It was "writer's revenge" against a bad actress.
3) The line was delivered, by the character/in character, as a joke.
4) It was planned for several episodes, but fell short because most viewers missed a number of clues along the way.
5) Desparation to get rid of the least popular character in show history (or 2nd least, depending on your opinion of former D.A. Dianne Wiest), they didn't care how they did it, they just wanted it done.

My own theory is #6: L & O has jumped the shark.

That girl is the worst actress on television. My wife watches the show religiously and we used to joke about how bad she is. Now I wish I had watched this episode.

it's crap like that that reinforce what I've said all along...that this is the most overrated show on TV. I just don't get it - the stories are stupid, the writing is terrible, and the acting - it's off the terrible chart. Michael Moriarity was bad, but Sam Waterston simply defies belief at how bad he is. He butchers every line, which I've laughed at for a long time. But, lately my new game when my wife forces me to watch the show, is to watch his facial expressions - whether it's is "horrified" look, or "shocked" look, or "indignant" look...whatever it is, it has me rolling on the floor in laughter.

I never had a problem with Elisabeth Rohm, but, then again, I try not to watch this show as often as possible. But I did watch last night with the wife, and we both were just amazed at that dialogue. I mean, wow. From what my wife says, there were hints before that she might be gay, and I guess they felt a need to tie that up...but that was just terrible.

Saw it...laughed...slackjawed...laughed again.

It was so out of place. There were no clues anywhere in this episode to see it coming. It didn't have anything to do with the story. My wife and I just looked at one another, saying over and over, "That's so stupid. So stupid. So..."

I have another theory, just for fun and spite: The network executives have handed the writers an "affirmative action" mandate that they have to mention or highlight gay characters so often, according to a certain quota. The writers felt the mandate was so uncalled for, that they made fun of it by throwing this line in. "There, we met the quota. Happy now? Law and Order is now 10% gay."

It was a real clunker of a line, delivered in classic Elisabeth Rohm fashion - awkwardly. Credit Fred Thompson for keeping a straight face. I subscribe to Jon's theory #2 that its writer's revenge for those 3.5 years.

I got canned one time at the end of one day because I opened my mouth about the racist idiot I was being forced to work with.

The gig was delivering soda machines, so I was stuck with this guy in a truck the whole day. All day long all that seem ed to come out his mouth was "nigger" this, "jungle bunny" that. We were sitting at a lighe and there was a very attractive young black lady in the car next to us and the guy actually said "Look at the spook bitch in that car." then made a comment about "niggers" being unable to drive. The guy training us laughed his ass off every time this asshole used a derogitory term... If I wasn't 20 years old with a new kid and house I would have walked off the job right then.

Since there were several new guys I went to the boss and asked to be teamed with someone else. He asked why and I told him. He said he'd think about it. He put me on another job for the remaining two hours of the day feeding returned cans & bottles into a crusher (the place also picked up the returned sodas.) The funny thing I noticed was that while I got that shit job, the other new guys were left with nothing to do except bullshit... Anyway, I saw that this boss went into another office immediately after I had talked with him.

After I finished the shit job of crushing those nasty, smelly, sticky cans he said he needed to see me.

He told me that there had been an error in my hiring. He said the guy who had hired me was not authorized to hire anybody and that they didn't need me. I left there in absolute shock.

Looking back, I am better off having not had to work in that klansman dump. The guy I complained about working with was probably related to someone there. THink what would have been said if they saw my kid (she's "off-white")

that I'm not the only one who found that ridiculous. I was watching the end for my wife and couldn't even describe it to her properly. I'd subscribe to the theory that it was writers revenge, but that only holds if the script instructed her to act like a statue or brain-dead moron while delivering the line.

I read on another board that one of the other ADA's got shot. I know it happened on SVU but did it ever happen on L&O Proper? And how many ADA's have their been? I know Angie, the chick who's on Crossing Jordan and 1 other besides this one I believe. How did their tenures end?

They had Jill Hennessy (now on Crossing Jordan) die in an auto accident. I think Carey Lowell left to take care of her child -- some non-descript departure. I can't recall how Angie Harmon left...

I thought the dialogue used here was obviously stilted, and if they meant to "foreshadow" this over time, I don't think they did it well enough. I'm a regular L&O viewer, and this seemed like a gratuitous script add-on to me, not something that they had been planning for a while.

But if they dropped heer for bad acting - the real question is: why did it take three years?!?!? She's been dreadful all along -- why wait?

And also - the new ADA taking her role does not look like a supermodel at all. What gives? Don't these people understand the successful, balanced formula they have worked out for us?

none of the ADA's have been shot besides the one on SVU. Maybe they're thinking of Sgt. Max Greevy, who got shot and killed in season 1.

Also, they never explained why ADA Paul Robinette (Richard Brooks) left the show. He made a guest appearence in season 6, where they showed he was doing well as a private practice defense attorney.

wow all the original cast is gone

Its like ER, they change so many many characters over the yearsWhich works, unless they get a really annoying actor that makes the show unwatchable (Blondie, and now the new detective that replaced Lenny), or the shows ideas get stale (which has also happened to L&O). It has been three years since I was a regular viewer, and if they had dumped Blondie earlier, they may have kept me. Now, they have no hope.
