Have any of you college students ordered from this site? There is some guy from Signapore on there and I was wondering if he was reliable. He seems to have every single book so I figured maybe someone had ordered from him. It says the book will arrive in 2 days. Any experience with this guy?

Which guy from Singapore? I've ordered books through Abebooks, but mostly they seemed to come either via Baldwin's Book Barn, Acres of Paperbacks, or a couple of places in England. I did manage to find some books I'd been looking for in vain for ages though.

I've had great experiences with Abebooks. I don't know about the guy from Singapore though...

Is the book that hard-to-find that you couldn't get it from one of Abebooks' affiliates closer to home (you'd save on postage)?

The closest the US guy has it for is $30 more expensive. I found it on half.com for $80.

also does anyone know if there is a difference in the international book and the regular one?

Gotcha, might be worth your while then... Singapore isn't exactly lawless so I don't think it's a big risk to order from there--maybe the government will cane "BaBooNeez" if he does try to screw you over...

I haven't used Abebooks, but I've had fairly decent luck with CollegeBooksDirect and SuperBookDeals.com. Saved about a hundred bucks combined the 7 books I ordered through them this semester.

That all depends. Content-wise, the editions probably won't be very different... maybe the international editions will use British English spellings rather than American English.

I read in the Slate a few years ago that there is a real difference in the production quality of books printed in the US versus abroad. The article said something about how British publishers, for example, tend to use lower quality paper and binding compared to US presses...

Well, I am looking at resale value too. I doubt the bookstore will give me anything for that. If I buy the regular version now for $70 I may get $30 back from the bookstore at the end of the semester.

if your school is anything like mine was, go check out some of the libraries on campus and check out the books for your courses if they have em. may be old versions, but they work just as good.

Heh. Guess you didn't check out any English books, eh? ;)

I've used Abebooks once and had no problems. I think they even used DHL to ship tp me for no extra charge..

As far as the international editions, I've purchased about 4 international edition text books. They are identical, except that they are paperback instead of hardcover. Content is identical page to page..
