View Full Version : 5 wins = 5 mil/2years
WHAT?
Scott Schoenwiess sign with the Jays for 2 years and 5 mil.
Him of the 5-9 and 5+ ERA last season?
Someone please convince me this is a good signing.

Maybe look at is as not as bad as it seems. Average pitchers are getting overpaid across the league, so there is a bit of a context for this.

I thought there was some hope that last year could have been a bit of a breakthrough for Schoeneweis -- I even drafted him as an endgame dollar pickup. He got off toa rocket start, then faded, and then suffered injuries, and then got put completely on the shelf.
Even so ... I think there is some chance (not a great one) that he works out to be a good bit better than the stats he posted in 2004. I'm not totally wild about the signing, but it could be a good deal worse.

Well hey, that's another $5 million over the next two years that we apparently just couldn't afford to give Delgado, but hey, let's sign Koskie, move Hinske to 1st and address our pitching problems with guys not even close to worth the money we'll throw at them, that'll make up for losing a perennial 30+ HR, 100 RBI left handed cleanup hitter who was developing into an above average fielder at his position.
Sigh.

Don't forget about the pending acquisition of Shea Hillenbrand (career OPS+ = 98) and his $4.6MM contract!

Well, I can afford to feed my family now, so I think it was a very good signing.

Hey, and don't forget the reacquisition of Billy Koch.
Personally, I'd have moved Hinske to DH (until he can prove that he can handle 10 straight grounders and the throw), kept Carlos at first, sure the Koskie move has to be a defensive upgrade over Hinske, then used some of our starters as bait to shore up the pen (and get a real SS). Offensively and defensively this team was nearly there, they *should* have a good rotation next year and have a few extra arms they could have used to improve the pen.
But no, lets have our best hitter walk, and basically use the money saved there to get 3 players that are questionable at best and really don't improve us past where we were with Delgado, brilliant J.P., absolutely stunning.
I shouldn't be so bitter, at least they didn't throw the farm at Woodward, thank goodness he's gone.

Damn, that single remark hurts worse than when I got traded to the Russians. That cuts deep man :(
Sorry, just really don't like the moves J.P. has been pulling up until now. Carlos should have been a Jay for the rest of his career too.

Last spring I spent a week checking out the Cactus League. First game we are milling around the stadium digging up a few beers. PA goes over the starters and Scott Schoenwiess is starting. It's not funny here, but one of the guys I was with just says: 'We flew all the way across the country to see f*#*ink Scott Schoenwiess pitch?'
