I'm kinda debating.. online play.. while fun.. usually is a crappy experience for me due to unrealistic play.. people going for it on 4-24.. and quitters.. so i hardly ever play online.. yet i consider it to be a important feature..

But i don't like xbox live's online service.. and it hates my router.. so basically i'm kinda stuck :)

PS2. I don't have Xbox Live (I'm still on dialup), so it's an easy decision to stick with the PS2 version. However, for ESPN Football, I'm getting it on Xbox, because I have no plans to play it online.

I think Im gonna get it for Gamecube. But if I get an Xbox soon, I may get it for that instead. Nintendo finally made a "big" memory card, so its not as much of an issue for sports games anymore.

How is online play anyways? All I hear are horror stories, unless you "know" the person you are playing against. Like teams just use gimmick plays, go for it on 4th all the time, and then drop carrier when they get behind at TD or 2.

Interesting. What are your complaints about Xbox Live?

I'm not sure how EA is planning on handling their online efforts with Xbox Live, but we made a concerted effort with the XSN games to track user gaming habits and provide gamers with some ability to see beforehand the type of player a potential opponent was - how many times they'd not finished initiated games, general feedback on user experiences, etc. Xbox Live also makes it pretty easy to keep track of online friends so when you do find gamers you can trust it's easy to keep them in the loop.

That is pretty much exactly what happens. However playing against people you know is a blast. Kodos and I used to play all the time. With that being said I still found games against strangers that were more realistic from tie to time. And even when they weren't I usually stomped the people going for ti on 4th all the time anyway.

When I play Madden or NCAA, i like some simple "house rules." Not going for it on 4th and 20 is one of them, especially if you are inside your own 40. Punting is part of the game of football. And sometimes those bullshit 4th and 20 plays convert, which is even more annoying. Basically I just hate it when people quit when they are behind.

Well dawgfan.. i lost broadband in my area for a time.. and i forgot to cancel my xbox live service.. so when that 50 dollar charge showed up on my account i was kinda disappointed.. then i had to spend 2 days looking around trying to figure out where to call to cancel.. Finally, after all that.. they couldn't find my account or even the fact they charged me.. this was 4 days after they had taken my money.. so i'm like.. gimme your email address.. i'll scan my statement and email it to you as proof... i then get transferred to a supervisor who finds my account and cancels it for me and says "you'll get a full refund, but its going to take 3-4 MONTHS for the credit to show up on your account".

So my 50 bucks sits in their account collecting interest for that space of time.. so basically they still win..

Thats my problem with xbox live dawgfan :)

Usually the morons are easier to beat. You can look at my FOFC Madden board with the link below. :)

So wait - I'm assuming the router was so that you could have multiple taps off your broadband connection. If you plugged your broadband directly to your Xbox did you have connection issues?

If/when you ever got online successfully with Xbox Live, were you happy with the user experience?

No, I just meant was it an issue strictly with the router or with the broadband hardware on the Xbox, which you'd test by running a direct line to the Xbox. Of course you'd want the router, but this would be a way of figuring out where the problem originates. If it had worked with the line directly into the Xbox, you'd know it was a router problem and not an Xbox problem.

I am buying the PS2 version because I plan to play a bunch with my old college roomate online and he only has a PS2... He also bought a online adapter last year simply to play versus me with Madden and NCAA so I would hate to bail on him this year...

I also prefer the PS2 controller for EA's 2 football games especially for NCAA where I use pitch and juke quite often...

I may buy Madden for the XBox... Or wait until I can find NCAA for cheap for the XBox and own it for both systems though... I much prefer the Hard Drive capacity of the XBox over the memory cards for the PS2...

suck worst? heh, kodos isn't bad.. just because he doesn't use the same money play over and over and over.. doesn't mean he sucks worst.. i judge people on quality of play.. rather then record..

I'd rather play someone who is 2-26 but every game is close and played realistically rather then someone who is 100-0 and cheeses and goes for it on 4th-30 on their own 20 in the first quarter.. and always runs the same 3 money plays. or never even tries to run the ball..

1-0 vs. FOFC :)

I don't remember who I used. I think maybe Virginia Tech. Whoever it was, I was unfamiliar with the team (I usually play as IU unless my opponent chooses a Top 25 team). I believe I tried to choose Miami (because they are good and a fierce rival of FSU), but Noop seemed to not like that idea. So I choose some other team. I think I played him pretty even at first, but then progressively got my ass kicked. My excuse (if I need one) was that I hadn't fired up NCAA for weeks before playing Noop. That and I am pretty much an average player. But Noop beat me fair and square.

Most of my games against FOFCers have gone well, although I did have one really bad encounter where the guy insisted on running the block punt play in Madden every single punt. I told him I thought it was cheesy to do that. So he did it again, and out of annoyance (and figuring he might waste a time out), I audibled to a shotgun formation one time (with no intention to actually run a pass play with my punter), and he got all pissed at me. Kept pausing the game to call me a cheater and to spew profanity at me.

Needless to say, I never played him again.

You can check out my glorious history in my sig. Zram is primelord. As you can see, I won our last couple of encounters. :p

I think that was just after Xbox dropped its price. When PS2 dropped it's price after E3, it jumped back on top in monthly sales. But yeah, the installed base for PS2 dwarves the other consoles combined.

What makes people good in online play is the ability to play defense. If you can play defense, you will win a huge % of your games.

When I play guys who go for it on 4th and 20, I'm ok with that. A great %of the time they will fail and you will get the ball in great field position. The problem lies in the fact that if you stop them once or twice and score they will pull the plug on the game.

You should get a win if they do that. In past Madden's you didn't get the win and thats BS.

A disconnect should count as a loss and if you get disconnected on it should count as a win for you. If you have connection issues get them fixed or don't play

Kodos
06-17-2004, 05:23 PM
Yeah, quitters are pretty common. That's why sticking to FOFC folks is a good habit. Most guys won't want to ruin their reputation over something as trivial as a game of Madden.

PS2, i'll die before I support microsoft consoles and/or any version of the X-Boxe, including X-Box 2. Just bad service on their part, the PS2 gets a disk read error and Sony agrees to fix it for free and pay for the shipping. The X-Box gets a dirty disk error and a supervisor I got to talk to wouldn't go any lower than 99.99 to fix it. The fact that I had 19 games in my collection, and that all of them had been bought brand new would not swing them, so I have since sold all the games and thrown the X-Box where it belongs, in the trash.

If you make a purchase from EA.com (or easports.com), register your email address and agree to recieve emails from them, I think you should get one in newsletters they send out every month or two. Not completely sure if you have to buy from them to start with, you might be able to register at the site without actually buying something. That's how I get mine anyway.

I think they expire around the time they send the next newsletter, so you probably won't be able to stack two of them for $30 or more off unless you get one from someone else.
