OOTP 6.02 Patch available!
By Markus Heinsohn
OOTP 6.02 features!
The following things were fixed or enhanced:
- Fixed service time counting problems.
- Tweaked depth-chart set up AI.
- Tweaked lineup AI.
- Added lineup leadoff spot AI modifier to the era setup, enabling users to toggle between favoring OBP or speed.
- Tweaked the age of generated HS and college players, making it more realistic.
- Tweaked player development. In longer sims, the leagues got too pitcher-dominated because of movement ratings that developed a little too fast.
- Improved pinch-hitting AI.
- Increased SB attempts for really fast players in order to produce more accurate SB numbers.
- Recoded the contract evaluation AI for contract offers. Players no longer favor 1-year contracts now.
- Improved free-agent signing AI. It's now more aggressive when having enough money available.
- The AI now signs free agents in leagues with no financials.
- Improved waiver system: If you want to demote a player who is out of options, he will be placed on irrevocable waivers, meaning once claimed, he cannot be pulled back. Also, it is now required to put a player on waivers in order to remove him from the 40-man roster.
- Player who have cleared waivers will now lose this status once proceeding to the next season.
- The AI now correctly handles the 60-day DL.
- When importang an OOTP 5 leagues and the ratings are locked, the game now asks if you want to provide the commish password and unlock the ratings.
- Fixed multiple small bugs and glitches.
Enjoy!

Does this mean I should stop IM'ing SkyDog to see if he has any information about the patch?

Nice player from the test league I ran last night. Note his draft position.

Thread closed... OOTP 6.02a will be released in some minutes. OOTP 6.02 had a bug in the depth chart AI that I wanted to be fixed

Dola.
Very nice development. Claimed off waivers, got his shot in 2043, and played well. Nice to see players like this around.
As a side note, interesting to see him traded to Pittsburgh, then back to San Diego two years later.

Cool deal. Hope this makes it so I can finally feel comfortable with importing my OOTP 5 league. Sounds like it made some good&needed changes.

I just tried going too and it seems to be down...
Skydog, haven't had much time to test out the patch yet. How do you feel about it so far?

I tried posting this at the OOTP board, but it's down...
"So I simmed a couple of months with the new patch (6.02a) and now I can't switch my SP's on my "pitching staff" chart. It will switch them if only 4 of the 5 spots are full (aka move them to an empty space), but I cannot switch two "taken" spots (aka switch the #1 and #2 guys) unless I move them off of the SP rotation.
I've duplicated this trying to move other team's SP's around. However, the bullpen still seems to work fine. This is quite a problem for me, as the playoffs are about to start. The workaround is quite a pain (having to do extra dragging and such). Just wanted to let you guys know."
Hope this gets fixed in 5.02b asap.

Skydog, haven't had much time to test out the patch yet. How do you feel about it so far?I haven't tested any of the short-term stuff. I ran a 50-year sim overnight and gave some pretty decent feedback on it early this morning to Markus. He changed some stuff based on that feedback, but I haven't had a chance to see how it is working, nor will I until after my trip. I'll probably run a 50-year sim overnight tonight and spend 15-20 minutes looking over it in the morning and giving further feedback. Other than that, I can't help much right now.

I'm really excited about this:
- Improved free-agent signing AI. It's now more aggressive when having enough money available.
That should really improve the financials, making it possible to really tweak your league to have powerhouse dynasty type teams.

I wish he would fix the foul ball, foul ball, foul ball, foul ball, foul ball, foul ball, foul ball syndrome that really makes playing the games an annoyance. It wouldnt be so annoying if you could play the game pitch by pitch but when your only supposed to be seeing the outcome of the at bat it gets very annoying to sit thru 6 straight foul balls.
I also wish the hit and run and steal options were placed at a random point in the count instead of on the first pitch all the time, it gets a little old.
All said, i'm having fun in my career.

Dola,
It would also be nice to have Inning designations for your relief pitchers instead of setup, middle and closer, it gets frustrating trying to figure out where your best pitchers should be, my 2nd setup man hardly gets any work so I have to juggle them around trying to figure out how to get them more appearances. Does anyone with more experience have suggestions as to where I should put my best Relievers in order to get them more work?

Setup #2 seems to be the guy who gets called only when setup #1 can't pitch.

Next year will be the year of the Brewers. :) Or I'll get fired this year. :D

It took a few games, but it seems the lineups and defensive positions are much better.

Edmonds is now in CF!!!! :)

Ahem, will it fix the problem that my ballparks are off to the left??
Answer: Heck no. That's still screwed up.

Has the sim speed slowed down dramatically for anyone else? I'm talking glacier slow. I could sim a month in 10 min before but now. It took 10 min to sim 6 days. I do have sim minors on but I just started a historical league so there are 5-12 players in each teams minor league system.

Yeah, I'm seeing a slowdown when the game is finalizing the day or week. The games for the day seem to sim in about the same time.
Edit: By a slowdown, I mean from 4-5 seconds to 10-15 seconds. Nothing major, but over the course of a season, it'll cause an increase of 10-15 minutes or so.

nilodor, there is a thread about this over on the OOTP Boards. I haven't had the problem myself, but it seems as if 2/3's of the people are. It may have to do with the improved AI.

Dola,
It would also be nice to have Inning designations for your relief pitchers instead of setup, middle and closer, it gets frustrating trying to figure out where your best pitchers should be, my 2nd setup man hardly gets any work so I have to juggle them around trying to figure out how to get them more appearances. Does anyone with more experience have suggestions as to where I should put my best Relievers in order to get them more work?
I usually have my stud as closer (duh), then I put my best MR as the #1 middle reliever. Then I put my 2nd best MR as the #1 setup reliever. Then I put the #3 guy as both the #2 setup reliever AND the the #2 middle reliever. Then the rest go as middle relievers and mop-up guys.
With a setup of 6 middle relievers (lettered A through F)
Mopup:
1)F
2)E
Middle:
1)A
2)C
3)D
4)E
Setup:
1)B
2)C
This is my strategery and it seems to work okay. Now that I think about it, I sometimes switch A&B's spots. Whatever works best. I always try to have one left in the "middle" spot, but that doesn't seem to always happen. If possible, I like to have "C" be the lefty (or one of 2 lefties) in my 'pen.
Hope you find a setup that works for you :)

Looks like the SI guys have already had their input when it comes to sim speed :D

Are you using Ankits MVP 2k4 stadiums? Mine look just fine after messing with them a bit.

Does anyone have a link to patch 1, patch 2 is too slow for me? Or does anyone know of anything else that can speed up sim time besides don't sim minors.

You can shut off waivers and other options such as that.

Does anyone else have the problem of trying to make a trade, clicking on a player to trade, and then no being able to exit? Cannot get the player to go away. I can't get back to the trade screen and have to exit out of the game completely. This has really kept me from getting into the game that I want to get into. Any idea's or suggestions? Anyone?

I have to mess with mine a lot. Such as everyone but the catcher, pitcher, and hitter are in the bleachers at Busch Stadium.
If you adjust the coordinates, or whatever that button says, for OOTP6, it scoots everything to the right. The more I hit the button, the further to the right it goes.
Not just the players, but the picture of the ballpark as well.
Looks like I may have to stick with OOTP5. I hate OOTP6 right now.

I have norton running, I know that the CCapp file does take up a good chunk of memory. Maybe I'll give her a go without norton running. If I take sim minors off do players still progress properly? Is simming the minors kinda window dressing that lets you know how well a player is developing?
