I thought you meant that Jason Whitlock was ON steroids.

Would have made a great "don't do drugs" commercial.

I agree with pretty much everything he said.

Interesting. But I read the subject of the thread as:

"Jason Whitlock on steriods... interesting place."

I wasn't sure how that'd be interesting, but I thought it worth a look.

I loved this Bush bashing post. It is a shame Bush didn't talk to any MDs about his speach, instead he just listened to the polsters.

I remember hearing his put a man on Mars, eliminate steroids, and cure bad breath speach. I was very sad that Bush didn't include his new imigration policy of only letting "Hot" chicks into the country. I think that deffinately would of put him over the top.

We just want to be entertained. We don't care who's on drugs. It's never stopped us from watching a movie or attending a rock or rap concert.
I don't know exactly who this hack is, but he can speak for himself. I've dropped quite a few "celebrity" from getting my dough because of their behavior.

Sounds more like it was written by some jocksniffer who was worried some of the shine might be taken off a few of his meal tickets.

I have to agree here. The article really focused on the fact that steroids aren't a violent crime, and therefore aren't that big of a deal. I don't care, they are illegal, and for good reason. Is making non-violent crimes seem ok the right message to send to not only children, but society in general?

Apparently so, especially if those criminals are part of your meal-ticket.

You do realize, of course, that it's a matter of time before you're labeled as a cross between a fascist, Hitler, and the root of all evil for daring to bring up the reality that there are laws against this sort of thing?

Whitlock is a (mostly) no talent loudmouth who writes for the KC Star. He likes, in this order: Jeff George, using the race card where it's not warranted, being a killjoy and writing horribly cynical columns about teams whose fans should be enjoying their success, and writing about the stupidest populist issues out there. Thankfully, opposite him on the Star's sports page is one of the most entertaining columnists in the country in Joe Posnanski.

Where to begin? Illegal???

I don't remember breaking any laws 2 years ago when after a bad ski accident along with my physical therapy sessions I was receiving injections of a steroid for my MCL tear.

I thank god every day my girlfriend is on her steroid cycle of estrogen/progesterone. I kind of like having rubberless sex.

My grandfather is no longer confined to his wheelchair thanks to the steroid called cortizone.

My mother I believe is also currently on a steroid cycle of progesterone to get her through menopause. No more hot flashes for her.

But along comes an uneducated, person like yourself and blaims all that is wrong in this world on steroids. Due a little research on the subject before condemning it.

Steroids are not illegal. They are readily available by prescription for a variety of reasons.

I have no problem if Joe Blow wants to puff himself up to Godzillan size to impress chicks. Where I disagree with rationalists like Whitlock is where somebody who doesn't want to take this stuff because they know how dangerous it can be will be forced to take it to compete and earn a living. I could care less how someone like Barry Bonds wants to take long term risks for short term gain, but some kid coming up through the minors would be compelled to take this junk just to get a fair shot.

How do you feel about boob jobs, face lifts, and other extreme surgical procedure that young actors and actresses coming up through the minors would be compelled to do this junk just to get a fair shot.

Do you want to compare death rates?

You've gotta be kidding me.

Uhhh, there is a big difference between using steroids prescribed by a doctor to rehab an injury, and using steroids ILLEGALLY in order to get the next big contract.

Prescribed by a doctor for an injury-Legal

Quitely given to you by some guy at BALCO-Illegal

I don't think baseball players are taking steroids so they can have rubberless sex with their girlfriends, to stay out of a wheelchair, or to get through menopause.

So go take your ignorance elsewhere before pointing fingers.

Proving once again ignorance is bliss.

What about prescribed by a doctor for performance enhancing reasons?

Do you have a problem with athletes using steroids to reduce their injury recovery time as stated in the article? This is the main reasons athletes take steroids.

You fall down severly break your ankle it will be 6 months before you are back to 100%, if an athlete breaks his ankle he is expected back in 6 weeks. That my friends is the mighty power of steroids. What is wrong with athletes using steroids prescribed by doctors to reduce their recovery times?

I think sports leagues have a compelling interest to stop illegal steroid usage. I do not, however, believe its a government problem or issue.

Of course, you can cross apply that argument to other areas too. That said, I'm not in favor of full scale drug legalization.

I completely disagree with that article. At an individual level, nothing bothers me more in athletics than finding out that someone used drugs to get a leg up. But I may be in the minority apparently.

Congratulations, you know a couple people using steroids legally and you are now the subject matter expert. Everyone else is uneducated. Read carefully, I'm typing slow for you.

A lot of athletes aren't taking them with prescriptions. By law, they are illegal when used in this way. BALCO wasn't going around giving out prescriptions for steroids, that's why the FBI busted their asses. Using them as prescribed in order to reduce injury recovery time is legal and the FBI doesn't get involved, pretty simple. It is against state and federal laws to buy and sell steroids except for very specific purposes, BALCO knows this, the athletes that were given steroids by BALCO knew this. That's why people are getting indicted, and athletes are hoping they aren't as well. Have you even been paying attention to what's going on in baseball and other sports in regard to steroid use? They don't care if your taking them legally, they are against the illegal use of them.

The main reason athlete's are taking steroids now is for performance enhancement, you are naive if you think otherwise. If a player is using them for no other reason than to be a better player, then its illegal. That's the issue here. Nothing to do with any other family members, friends, or whoever the hell else you can think of that uses them legally. No doctor with a legit medical license and a conscience is going to hand a player a prescription for steroids so he can get 70 homeruns.

Its really simple, if you are abusing steroids, or using them without a prescription, then its illegal. If you have a prescription from a licensed physician they are legal.

Let's summarize, I have a problem with the illegal use of them, I don't really care if people are taking them legally.
