First a little background.. My 2005 Philadelphia Eagles were a team carefully crafted to finally win the superbowl. We had a young running back who is very good at picking holes and has good speed to the outside (he had a 1700 yard season this year with a 5.0 avg.) He was in his 2nd year and really has a good line in front of him blocking. We go 15-1 behind a nice balanced offense with a terrific defense that was #1 in the league for rushing defense, #3 for passing defense and #1 for total yardage as well as #1 in points allowed and #1 in turnover margin.

Despite all of this, McNabb is the driving force of our offense. He makes a mediocre group of wide receivers play beyond their capability. He helps A poorly rated Todd Pinskton have a 82 catch 1125 yard 9 TD season. He helps L.T. Smith have a 75 catch 1,024 yard 8 TD season. He ends the year with 4 4th quarter comebacks this year.

Anyway, I'm in the NFC Championship game playing a tough Carolina Defense and it is a 3-3 tie in the 3rd quarter as both of our top defenses have been dominating (Carolina comes into the game as the number 2 defense overall.) Late in the 3rd quarter Julius Peppers comes from the blind side and nails McNabb who is injured for the 1st time in my FOF universe with a seperated shoulder! :( Now, due to cap issues I have my young 2nd year QB who doesn't have much experience or Koy Detmer to bring into the game. Well, Desmond Giles hasn't taken any snaps but clearly he has outperformed Detmer in the Preseason games they played and he has been my number 2 all year long. Here is a snapshot of him (actually I read the thread how to do this and realized I can't as I don't have a place to host the picture so I will describe his ratings.

Desmond Giles 2nd year pro 6'1 203 pounds.
Screen Passing 9/25
Short Passing 9/35
Medium Passing 15/57
Long Passing 12/38
Deep Passing 10/48
Third Down Passing 37/37
Avoid Interceptions 16/39
Accuracy 9/41
Timing 60/62
Sense Rush 10/10
Read Defense 22/68
Two Minute Offense 9/14
Scramble Frequency 76/76
Avoid Fumbles 9/35
Kick Holding 0/0

So Desmond comes into the game with about 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. What does he do? He completes his first 8 passes driving us 79 yards for our first touchdown of the game!! Carolina then has a long drive which ends thanks to a hard hit by Brian Dawkins with a fumble recovery on the 7 yard line by Troy Vincent (Yes, amazingly he is still playing.) We then run, run, run the ball down their throat thanks to our young running back and good offensiveline and punt the ball into their turf. We have several exchanges of drives and we hold out for a 10-3 win :) Our young QB only threw 4 more passes in the 4th quarter, all incompletions. He ended up with 8 of 12 passing for 77 yards with 0 TDs and 0 Ints. Now for the bad news. McNabb's shoulder is absolutely too bad for him to play for at least a week or two, possibly 3 and the superbowl is now :(.

So, do I play Giles or Detmer? Either way, I will revise my game plan for a run heavy scheme. Detmer is rated much worse in every area except for medium throws where he is a 30/56.. so I guess I just answered my own question. I'll update after I watch the superbowl.. but this hurts as we finally have a good enough team to win it until McNabb gets knocked out. I love this game :)

Edited to correct grammatical errors and typos I actually noticed as well as to add a stat for my RB, Jimmy Anthony.

These are the points where i would sim the game very slowly while watching it and be ready to take over the game if need be.
Sometimes you gotta Jerry Jones the game.

Isn't that what they all say?

Well I'm playing The Leftwich led Jaguars in the Superbowl and so far my defense has saved the day. Jimmy has been disappointing with only 11 yards on 7 carries. We have managed to get 3 sacks on Byron which have forced a bad punt or two from Jacksonville. As a result, we were able to get into field goal range and we are winning 3-0 after 1 (52 yard field goal by Akers). However, Leftwich is leading a strong drive down the field and Jacksonville has the ball inside our 30 yard line for the first time today...

In the 2nd quarter, we managed to hold the driving Jaguars to a field goal thanks to a sack by Jerome McDougle (who finally stayed healthy all year and had a 16 sack year.) On the ensuing drive, Giles completed his first pass! Only, to have Anthony cough the ball up and give it to Jacksonville on our own 28. Thankfully, Vincent intercepted the ball in the end zone to save a potential disaster. We actually threw the ball some in the 2nd quarter and our QB ended up the half with 6-10 passing for 22 yards with 0 TD and 0 Int. Anthony ended the half with 14 carries for 28 yards. Leftwich has 120 yards passing with 0TD and 1 Int. Turnovers are keeping us in the game. Now to go play the 3rd quarter..

Are you calling any of the plays or just watching?

NO!! We ran the ball well in the beginning of the 3rd quarter with Anthony finally moving the ball. We make it inside their 20. Despite my game plan which calls for 90 percent run on 1st and 10 inside the red zone, Giles and the coordinator decide to pass. The ball is intercepted and returned 92 yards for a touchdown by Hayes, a young Jaguars Defensive Lineman! (Least I think it is - his number is 96) We then proceed to have a 3 and out series which gives Leftwich a short field. He drives the team into field goal range and we are down 13-3 at the beginning of the 4th quarter.

OH MY! Jacksonville has the ball on the 32 and they go for the 49 yard field goal kick but the holder has trouble getting it down! They miss the field goal. Giles becomes energized and our coordinator realizes we must pass some now since we are down in the 4 th quarter. Pinkston has his first catch of the game for 25 yards (23 YAC) Then, Anthony runs outside for 31 yards. Anthony pounds the ball inside a few more times and scores! 13-10 with 6 minutes left and we are about to kick off :)

Dola: Fred Taylor runs hard for a first down, but we stop them from converting the next first down. We have the ball with 2 minutes left on our own 22..

This game had me jumping out of my seat screaming at the screen.. I hope no one minded my serial posts about the game. We started with the ball on our 22 yard line after Jacksonville's punt and Anthony ran the ball for 28 yards only to have it called back on a hold :( We then proceeded to have 2 false starts to make it 1st and 28 from our 4 yard line. We had no choice to pass and fortunately our coordinator realized this. First pass incomplete. 2nd pass incomplete. 3rd pass incomplete. 4th and 28 on our own 4. He completes it to our backup SE Lewis for 32 yards! We now have 1 minute left approximately. 1st and 10 on our 32, and he has 3 incompletes followed by a 24 yard completion to Pinkston for a 1st down (converting a 4th and 10 for the second time.) My heart is beating fast.. I'm screaming come on. It is now 1st and 10 on the 46 yard line with 16 seconds left (we have just used our last timeout.) First pass incomplete :(. 9 seconds are left, completion to Pinkston for 21 yards getting us in field goal range, unfortunately time runs out before we can spike it. Jacksonville wins :( 13-10

Jacksonville's Linebacker Mike Peterson is the Superbowl MVP with 14 tackles and 2 assists. He was a key component in containing Anthony.

Jacksonville's Leaders: Leftwich 16-32 for 178 yards 0TD 1INT
Fred Taylor 13-38 yards with 0 TD
Reggie Wayne 7-87 yards with 0TD
Def: Peterson

Eagles Leaders: Giles 18-33 for 159 yards 0TD and 1INT
Jimmy Anthony 25-86 yards 1TD
Pinkston 9 catches 70 yards (Pinkston must have had a few earlier catches that I somehow missed before the big 3rd quarter catch)

Emmons: 8 tackles 2 sacks

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I was just reviewing stats from this season one last time as well as other details before I move into the offseason (I already poured over them before the postseason began) and I noticed one or two interesting things. TB's 1st round pick, a MLB, the 27th pick held out all year with very high blue bars, it will be interesting to see where he goes in next year's draft. Also, The superbowl actually sold out as did our post season games despite not selling out in the regular season. I'm not sure if this means Jim fixed the static attendance issue or not, but it is nice to see that we had a full house for the play offs finally :)

You will always wonder "WHAT IF", had you given Detmer the start!

Ahh, I was wondering that! Don't say it. However, I still think I did the right thing. This kid clearly outplayed Koy in the preseason and he was higher rated in almost every category. Yet, I can't help but wonder :(

By the way, I'm on call tonight and am gloriously having a quiet week of call finally where I can play each evening :)

Getting ready to play your beloved Eagles in my dynasty FOF2004: The Return of America's Team II (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16942) (Sorry for the shameless plug!). It's a meaningless game on our part however as the team has fallen on hard times and the Eagles are looking to make the playoffs. But its only my first season. We won Round 1, 16-14.

I learned the moral of last season is: Always spend the bucks for a quality backup QB. I just did some creative accounting with a few players to create the cap space to take a chance at the Superbowl again. I obtained Daunte Culpepper as a late free agent. He is in his 7th year with diminishing skills (44/44 overall scout rating) and Minnesota replaced him with a young stud QB. So for a little under 2 million a year, I have a very servicable backup QB in case Donovan gets hurt again. Now I just have to decide who gets traded: Koy, Giles, or my other young rookie QB who isn't developing at all.

Giles. The opportunity to get more out of trading him would very well be worth it. He sounds like AJ Feeley to me.

By the way, you had MY heart racing...I wanted to see an Eagles win! If they had, I'd have gone up and put on my authentic 1991 Cunningham jersey (from 1991, not one of those Mitchell and Ness jerseys).

Thanks for this thread. You got me all excited for some football!
