Can names be added to FOF2004 vs. modified?

Read: Suppose there are 2000 last names in FOF2004, can you make it 2001 or is their a static number?

from what i can tell, they cant be added manually. I see a fnames and lnames.dll in the FOF dir, but unfortunately since theyre compiled you cant edit them by hand.

Hopefully someone has created a utility to do so..

You can edit the fnames and lnames files with reshacker.

I know you can edit the names, but can you *add* them? ...and I guess this goes for TCY also.

What I'm getting at is that the game will randomly assign a last name to a new draftee. If there are 2000 last names, the chance "SMITH" is used is 1 in 2000. But we know that the chance of "SMITH" being used is probably a little better than the odds of "OKIWANABE" being used, but in the game, that just isn't so.

With the ability to add names, we could introduce more "SMITHS", "JONES", and even "JOHN" or "MICHAEL" for that matter.

Dutch, I looked through the .dll and from what I can tell you either can not add a name, or if you could, it would take a lot of work to add just 1 name (because you would have to change most of the numbers in the file. Big pain in the ass.)

Fair enough, I can do what I did for FOF2 and just edit some of the weird names and reintroduce more Smiths and Jones'.

Thanks for looking.

Okay, another question about names.

I'm using Heavy Reign's Fictional Player Utility. Now, if I go in and edit the names, will FOF use those names to put in the fnames.dll and lnames.dll or would I need to edit that directly to get FOF to read those names for future player generation?

Hey...can we use the same name.dll files that we used for FOF4?

I had mine pretty much 'fixed' how I liked it and it'd be so much easier to just use them.

Mudbugs huh...I was incharge of the stats for the Glaciercats both years :( they were in the old WHipple...good to still see some of the teams in action. How are you liking the CHL?

Thanks all,

WHipple? Is that the WPHL (Western Professional Hockey League)? I was in El Paso when the league started and watched the Buzzards win the first two league championships. I then moved to Abilene just in time for the Aviators to open up shop. Too bad the Aviators shut down early in their second season, I loved going to their games...

Yes sir! I got to see the Aviators ONCE I think before the folded in 1999(or was it '98?)...those road unis, WHEW! I believe...did they have warm-up jerseys that were sponsored by some dairy farm...they looked like a herd of skating Holsteins...that might have been the Rattlers too...I can't remember.

That was a good league though, if you liked fighting and hard hits...man, that was hockey!

I had forgotten about the cow uniforms. I forget the reason they had them but theydid have those alternate uniforms for a little while. Too bad you saw them in those. Their regular uni's were sharp.

I think they folded very early in the 2000 season. Heh, after a little searching I found these. Brings back some memories and a tear to my eye... *sniff*

Of course, I do still have a holey Aviators t-shirt, but my girlfriend is trying very hard to get me to throw it out. NEVER!!!!

AHHHH, that brings back some memories...I am saving that for my wife to see!

Thats Todd St.Louis(#6) TRYING to block a shot...they brought him into the organization to be a 'middle-weight' enforcer...brickhands man, I am telling ya, touch of STONE! His pretty face and blond hair were a HIT with the ladies...you know, he quit hockey and went to a cooking school to be a chef!

Hope his touch is better with the salt shakers :)

I just replaced my hard drive and didn't backup the lnames.dll file that Jim made available on his website. Now I went to download it, and its no longer there.

Can someone please provide a link to a location that has the updated lnames.dll file?

Thanks

I have been wanting to add/edit names files in FOF for a long time and just looked into this recently - the number of Artie's in my league were getting to me! But the names file cannot add or delete names, only edit, and seem to be ordered from most popular names. So to make Artie less popular, I had to a find a name listed as not too popular, and switch it with Artie. Now I am more of that other name, instead like OOTP I could just decrease the Artie odds without having to increase another... wish I could add hundreds of last names too..

Weird thing happened in TCY 1.2a, I update a bunch of names and they showed up as ??????? in the game. But it was a career that I already started, maybe that's what the ?????? were for.

The pain in the arse trick that I see with editing hex files is that if you want to add SMITH you have to replade ARTIE but not ARTTIE because it's too long. Do you notice this too when editing?

I have never had the problem. For example, I replace "Artie" with "Art"
