I've updated the FOF2004 Player Editor, which allows you to modify the players file (players.fdt) used when new fof2004 careers are started. I believe this is easier to use than the existing CSV method that comes with the game - you can now directly read the Players file and directly update the file.

This is version 0.9, which has the following new features since 0.8:
-when adding new players, player IDs are automatically generated.
-can delete players from the list

you'll probably need .net framework installed on your machine for the app to work.

USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! PLEASE BACKUP YOUR PLAYER.FDT FILE PRIOR TO USE.

Please check it out:

Right-click on link and save on your PC. Doubleclick on the saved installer instead - worked for me.

Lighthouse mentions the need for the .net framework in his initial post. As to how one would download a copy, I'm not sure - but it's probably a safe bet that you can get it from Microsoft.

You should be able to get the framework here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=262d25e3-f589-4842-8157-034d1e7cf3a3&DisplayLang=en

Look out though, I think it's a 30 meg download.
*edit* it's 24.

Is there a reason you cannot see some of the players ratings, they are 0. For example Chad Pennington has 0 for QBScreen and short passses to name a few.

When the rating is set to 0 then thegame automatically assigns a rating based on the players overall rating. For example if Pennington was a 9 overall rating and had a 0 in all passing areas for the most part all his passing ratings should be exceptional, but they won;t be set in stone each time you start a game.

OK- I understand, so if I wanted to make Dante' Hall an exceptional kick returner his numbers should be set to 9, correct?

Yes although there is some question as to whether or not the kick return ratings are getting properly assigned when being imported into the game at this point.

If Dante Hall currently isn't an exceptional kick returner in your game it probably isn't the player file that is making it that way.

Hi,

First off GREAT tool,

I have had a problem using it.

First I made a player a Flanker (or thought I did, I used the numbers from the file generator) but the players stats came out as lineman stats.

Am I doing something wrong??

Also a player I thought I made a center became a kicker.

I am sooo confused, if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

edit: add - I have been using the numbers from the position list that comes with the player file generator.

Thanks,

Fred

primelord, i have been playing with the editor today and noticed that too, the players are just rated on Overall Rating and % Potential. I underestand the Overall rating, if i set it to 9 they will be great, if i set to 0 they are crap. But what about the % Potential? i have made some tests and it doesn't seem to be the player potential alone, seems it's attached to the Overal ratting too, am i right? if so, how is the ralationship betwen them? After opening it i'm a bit dissapointed as i thought that Jim's players were rated for each attribute insted of just random betwen 1 and 9. I know that to rate each one is a big work, but i will try to do the more known players at least.

That's how much of their potential they've actually reached as of now. If a guy has 50% here, then he has 50% left of his potential to reach (or not). A 100% means he has reached his limit.

I tried to install this and it asked me for some ".Net" program - whats that about?

I wish there was a player editor in the FOF 2004 package.

What exactly does this file do.... Can you edit player ratings.... When I do a test to check it out and upload the realname.fdt file the palyers have no ratings...

What gives is this right and how do you then edit the players.

Thanks.

It's a player editor, you can edit the ratings etc. About not seing any rattings there now (mostly of them are 0), primelord already explained it above:

When the rating is set to 0 then thegame automatically assigns a rating based on the players overall rating. For example if Pennington was a 9 overall rating and had a 0 in all passing areas for the most part all his passing ratings should be exceptional, but they won;t be set in stone each time you start a game.

Thanks... I probably should have read above before I posted.

The other question I have then is the rating system... Is it between 0-9 (with 0 being the lowest and 9 the highest).

And like the previous post if I want something to be a great passer I assign 9... If middle of the road I assign 4 or 5 .... Is it as simple as this... Is this correct.

Thanks for any additional input.

I've used it a few times and I thought it was very good. I acctually wrote a 2004 CFL starting roster using it. Good Job!

I tried using the player editor to switch a few players around on different teams, but I couldn't get it to install. After even I downloaded and installed the .NET framework, I got an error message saying that I didn't have what I needed to install the editor, and it then gave me a bunch of gooblygook in Wordpad. If anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong, I would really appreciate it.
