View Full Version : FOF 2004 New Features That Are Undocumented

Hey y'all:

I'm trying to get a handle on features/niceties in the game that are new, but that are undocumented thus far. For example, we knew about volatility only because of the rating in the demo, and that Quik told us about it. It wasn't in any feature list, or even in the help file. It would be great to put this in one thread, so that people know about things. For example, I just read that histories are now tracked for every coach and coordinator! Heck, even the adjustible injury and cap ratings aren't mentioned at the Solecismic site. Here are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Post others, and I'll add 'em to this thread. It would be nice for people to know what is in the game.
Veteran players can mentor young players.
Year-by-year coaching history tracked for every coach and coordinator.
Players rated for "volatility" (likelihood of having a heavy variance from their rookie scouted potential).
Agents rated for how stubborn they are in negotiations.
Adjustable injury rates.
Adjustable salary inflation.
Free agents who turned down contract offers are tracked.
Ticket prices can now be adjusted at any time during the season.
Ticket prices comparison with those around the league with one click.
Notification of when players are 100% healed from injuries.

Others?

I just noticed that agents have been given a ranking for "stubburn negotiator." I don't remember hearing about that before.

Yeah, that wasn't on the feature list.

a warning of "are you sure you want to do this" is now given if you try to negotiate a contract with a currently injured player.

If a player holds out and you don't give him a new contract at some point before the next season, he'll end his holdout, but should you try to renegotiate his contract or sign him to an extension, he'll cite the infamous 'previous injustices' and refuse to sign with you at all.

I had a RB I drafted #1 overall hold out all season and re-enter the draft. He then held out on the team that drafted him, signing right before the regular season. His agent's "Stubborn Negotiator" rating: Average 51

You can sign more players than the allowed 60 in the preseason, and 53 in the regular season, but then you get a message telling you that you exceeded the limit.

Wheels, that might be the best feature yet. :) It saved me a lot of money lastnight.

Year-by-year coaching history tracked for every coach and coordinator.

Wha wha? I love this. But where is it? Dude, tracking coach history is one of my favorite things in any game!

Just found it under experience. AWESOME.

I noticed that I could adjust my ticket prices from the "Stadium Overview" screen. Is being able to change prices any time a new feature, or is it only something that can be done at the beginning of a career?

It's now possible to compare your ticket prices with those around the league with the click of a button.

A small but new feature I heart - Notification of when players are 100% healed from injuries.

Is it safe to assume that the higher the agent stubborness, the more stubborn the player is in signing the contract???

yes

Player suspensions are back. In my first season, after my first crappy draft, my starting QB, Tommy Maddox, got suspended for the season for substance abuse. :(

No.

Picking 2nd in the draft, I was annoyed to find 4 of my picks held out at least one time. The 2nd overall pick didn't sign until after the first exhib (not so bad, perhaps).

But the stubborness rankings of the five hold out agents were:

23-held out until after training camp (3rd round pick)
46-held until after second FA (2nd round pick)
86-held out one round on 6th round pick!
38-held out until after first exhib (1st round, 2nd overall)

In all cases, I went for the longest contract, least money option first because that worked 7 for 7 my first season.
Needless to say, the stubborness ratings need some studying.

so now that the features are written down, are they still undocumented?

LMAO!!!!!!!! Tommy Maddox for substance abuse? As an ex insurance salesman he should know better. I'm sure he had many medical claims for drug use :)

I had a stud LB whose contract was expired so I franchised him. Near the end of the season I tried to extend his contract and got the "past injustices" message. I don't remember seeing this in 2k1, but I didn't play FOF4. Is this new?

Easy Mac

Nah, it was in FOF4 already, along with the suspensions.

edit: this was meant for the past 2 posts

I have yet to see anyone report this - so I'll mention it.

The players who get angry with you and cite "past injustices" will eventually get over their bitterness. I haven't seen this enough to have a sense of how long it takes or under what circumstances it happens, but an angry player is no longer totally unwilling to re-sign with you forever. More to come on this as we collectively figure out how subtle it is.

I like the feature, myself.

Old Giants, thanks for more backup regarding agents. I agree that more research is required about the agents. I really haven't a feel for that as of yet.

Yes, indeed.

I should add my first year I picked 14th each round, the second year 2nd. I'm sure that influenced the negotiations. It's good the position in round has an impact.

The positional bias setting on the Depth Chart screen for the secondary.

Not a new feature but a definite improvement: when you bring up your roster screen, the main field is the active element.

In other words, the mouse wheel defaults to the player list, not the "select team" list.

Very nice.

I hear this. I can remember many a times getting a chance to view the backfields of, oh, around 30-35 different college teams in TCY.

Seems like players who first round picks now have their full draft spot (e.g. 1st round, 23rd pick) listed on the player card again. Wasn't this gone in FOF4?

This is actually expanded from any past version. It used to show slot number for first round only. This is the first version, I'm fairly certain, with slot number for every round.

LOL, I can just imagine doing that right now.

two things I find nice that I had never seen before, both when you scroll down a list of recommended free agents.

1) players to whom you've already made an offer are in blue
2) free agents from your team are in red (may not be new, but it just hits me as nice)

Don't know if this is new or not, or if it has been reported or not, but I just found out last night (actually reading the help file too...).

When viewing statistics from past years, clicking a given year brings up the game log for that player for that year. You get to view the player's stats from any single game !!!

Simply awesome, methinks...

It's not new - FOF4 had it as well.

This is a documented feature in general, but I've noticed something wonderfully excellent about the career stats page. If you click on "View One Team" the display switches to show only stats that were accumulated with your team. (In other words, if he had a 15-year career, but only played 3 years with you, it will show just the stats for those three years.) If you click on the player card, you can see his entire career. Nice! Career stats is also a quick way to find out how that WR that you let become a free agent did the rest of his career.

Don't know if this has been observed yet, but if you right click on a particular game on any teams schedule window, it will give a recap of who the leading passer, receiver and rusher was for each team.
