Some time back, I asked for everyone's top 5 football movies.

What's your choice for worst football movie?

Yesterday, I fell asleep 15 minutes into "The Slaughter Rule".

I can't begin to describe how much I hated that movie.

Anyone else?

I hate Rudy. I can't stand it. I know other's love it, but I can't change the channel fast enough when I see it on. I don't know what I dislike about that movie, I like Notre Dame, I like Sean Astin, Jon Favreau is one of my favorite actors, but there's just something about that movie that is like nails on a chalkboard for me.

"Little Giants"

God Awful

I haven't seen it yet, and likely won't, but Radio sounds like a combination of Rudy, Forrest Gump: The College Years, and Waterboy. Not something I'd want to see.

"Any Given Sunday" made me technicolor yawn.

Thinking about it, I think it's a lot harder to name good football movies than bad ones. :D

Unnecessary Roughness? I don't remember Robin Williams but I might have blacked it out.

Actually, I think a better question would be, name a couple GOOD football movies. There don't seem to be that many.

That being said, "Any Given Sunday" takes the cake for me. It is so far over-the-top, its like "Playmakers", but it tries to take itself seriously.

Can I add ESPN's Playmaker to the list? Even though it is not a movie.

Yes, I can add ESPN's "Junction Boys" It probably was great story and even a better book. Unfortunately ESPN hired their SporstCenter Staff writers to write the Screen play. A little background info would of been nice people.

Maybe he's thinking of Best of Times, with Robin Williams and Kurt Russell. I actually liked that one. And Goldie Hawn's football movie wasn't bad, for what it was. Of course, those were more comedies masquerading as "football" movies.

I dont remember what is was called (funny), but the one with Keanu Reeves? What a horrible flick.

Any Given Sunday - A football movie made by Oliver Stone, nuff said.

The Replacements - I am so PO'd such a horrible movie stole its title from the name of one of the great, unsung rock bands of all time.

Junction Boys - Sadly, an over the top, wretched piece of crap that bore little resemblence to what was actually a pretty good book.

That's the one. Got it mixed up with "Necessary Roughness" somehow.

Wait a second now... did you see her as a pulling guard?

That obese bucket of lard could throw a pancake block. For a sheer coaching tool alone watch the movie. Tons of Fun Rosey put on a clinic!

Totally depressing... and too long. I watched it one day in college and I swear it took me something like 7 hours.

I suppose you think "Varsity Blues" is a good film, too? (although I do think it's alright to watch it just for the whipped cream bikini scene)

Nobody for 'Varsity Blues'? A movie so full of borrowed dramatic and character cliche's, that by the time the credits roll you've already forgotten the entire film.

Overall, I would have to agree with many others on 'Any Given Sunday'. Everybody involved with that flick either mailed it in, or went completely over the top. Pacino was like a caricature of himself, and Stone's ham-handed direction took me through waves of near comatose mouth-breathing peaked by occassional outright guffaws at the most 'sincere' moments. I almost busted a nut when some guys eye popped out.

'The Replacements' made me want to hate it, yet it was so completely innocuous that I couldn't pull the trigger. 'Little Giants' was like drinking day-old, warm Coke. 'Rudy' should have been Corey Haim (or Feldman). 'The Program' and 'Varsity Blues' were the same EXACT movie...as far as I remember. 'Wildcats' was totally carried by Nipsey Russell, which should tell you all you need to know. Yet, I imagine that 'Air Bud' is truly the worst of the worst, but I'm just not sure that I'm ready to find out, and I'm willing to take anybody's word for it that Rosanne in a football movie would just stunt my growth.

When it comes to good football movies, I could watch 'North Dallas Forty' and 'The Longest Yard' a million times over, but other than those two I can't really come up with much. 'Everybody's All American' and 'Remember the Titans' were decent movies, but I would hardly categorize either as more than 'watchable'. Sadly, my favorite football scene might be from the laughable 'The Last Boyscout', when a player pulls out a gun on the field and pops off a couple would-be tacklers......either that, or the guy's eye popping out in 'Any Given Sunday'.

EDIT: Oops, there's Franklin with 'Varsity Blues' as I speak.

Anybody want to take a guess how long it takes for something like this to happen in real life?
