I ran across FOF1 via a Metacrawler search for (I think) "football career game" after I had found Baseball Mogul through a similar search.

I had the original FOF on my computer at work, I'd just moved back down to Atlanta and had no money and very very few posessions of any sort and a rather crappy living environment, and FOF was perfect for my work computer, I could stay late at the office if I wanted to goof around and play it.

Saw a review of FOF in Computer Gaming World. After getting hooked on the genre with Baseball Mogul, it was a quick purchase of FOF2.

I was reading a computer magazine when FOF2001 came out. THat's the 1st one I bought. Since, I have bought, TCY and FOF4. I plan to buy FOF2k4 as soon as it is released.

I think I first heard about FOF Classic from Jim on Usenet. Sampled the demo, was annoyed by the fact that Barry Sanders made a tackle on special teams, decided not to hold that against the game, ordered (by phone! I think it was Angela who took my order) and the rest is history.

Somehow I got directed to the FOF Central board after FOF1 had sold out but with the release of FOF2 forthcoming. I have bought all Solecismic games since (although I didn't play around too much with FOF4). TCY is far and away my favorite. After that I think I spent the most time with FOF2.

I played FOF2 but never found this board (wasn't a big forum guy then).
It took some guys talking about FOFC over on the OOTP board a year or so ago to get me to come over here. I haven't really been back to that other board since.
Remembering it kind of brings a tear to my eye.

I can't remember really. I played all the FPS games and found Baseball Mogul. I think somehow I found the original FOF while I was playing Mogul, but I can't remember how I found it. I think it may have been a web search, but I really don't know. Either way, I've been around since the beginning.

I don't recall how I found FOF, although I know I was into Baseball Mogul first, and once I played FOF2, I couldn't go back to BBM.

Holy cow! You're right, I remember ordering by phone and saying, "I know you've heard this before, but I've been waiting for somebody to make this game for years!"

I remember ordering by phone and I talked to a woman. I was hoping that I wasn't getting ripped off. I was so excited. it was like Jim had read my mind.
Even toady, when I have so much less free time to play games, FOF is one of the few that never leaves my hard drive or is left out of the rotation. This may sound wierd, but one of the main reasons that I play FOF more than any other game is because it is windows based. I can play it while using my computer for some other task.

I found it during the FOF2 days. I think I was doing some sort of search and found a review for it. The game sounded like something that I had wanted for ages, but for some reason I didn't realize that you could only order it through the EA website. I went to visit a friend who worked at a game shop, asked him about the game and he had so clue, so I went back on-line and did some more searching. Downloaded the game, then searched for some strategy info and found this place. The rest is history...

You guys should just admit that you had mis-dialed a phone sex number and, in order to save face, went ahead and ordered the game :D
I'm not positive where I first heard about this game, but I think it may have been the EA website. That, or a general search for sports text sims on Yahoo.

I was reading the comp.sys.ibm.pc.sports.games group and saw a post from Jim regarding the upcoming release of FOF1. I ordered via phone and there was some sort of screw up with the people taking the orders. Jim called me later in the day at my office to clear things up. Then after a heated exchange he guaranteed me free copies of all future releases (jk). ;)

Somewhere between 1998 and 1999. Was looking at a replacement for FPSFP'95 (which was my all time best game at the time) and got the FOF1 demo. For some reason, I waited until FOF2 to finally buy the product.
And since the, well...it's been FOF2 all along, even now.

Around 2001, looking for a football game that could simulate real stats/results. Looking for a text sim where development time wasn't all spent on graphics, but results and the sim engine.
Hooked from the start of course.

I bought Baseball Mogul with Football Mogul packed in. This was a software shop in a mall in early 1999. After spending some time playing Football Mogul, I looked around for another sports management game, and came across a review of FOF2 on the 'net. I went back and forth about buying a game over the internet, and finally took the plunge in late 1999. I skipped FOF 2001, bought TCY, FOF4, and am eagerly awaiting FOF2K4.

I guess I'm one of the few who found the game via TCY. I saw an ad in one of the college recruiting magazines, was looking for something that my wife could give me for an upcoming birthday, and told her about the game.
Since then I've purchased FOF2001 (never really got into it), and FOF4 (hard time getting into that one as well). I'm pretty impressed with the demo to FOF2k4, however. I might have changed my mind on purchasing this one out of the gate.

I discovered FOF1 in the fall of 1998, about a month after Jim released it. He posted from time to time on comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.sports from time to time about the game, and as someone else who'd been a long time devotee to the FPS:FB series (and disliked the sucky AI it employed in weighting trades) I tried it.
I enjoyed FOF2. I've played FOF2001 quite a bit, but for some reason the ridiculous Madden wannabe interface really bothers me. Haven't been able to get into FOF4 much. I was about ready to give it another try post latest patch when Jim announced. FOF2K4, so I don't suppose I'll bother.
I bought TCY a few months after it came out (I was flat broken when it was released). It is easily my favorite of Jim's releases. Then again, I like the college game better than the pros anyway.

I came across it sometime around the big FBPro 99 debacle. I didn't buy it until FOF2. I tried a demo first, maybe for the original but I can't remember-- it might have been for 2. It didn't hook me at first, hence not remembering which one. FOF2 was a weird impulse buy and I became hooked rather quickly. I think that whole cutoff time in the demo is what kept me away from getting it. Once I was able to play through the season on the real version, it hooked me quickly.
As far as forums are concerned, I had seen The Sideline and had registered there, but can't remember if I posted much, if any. I was never much of a forum person. It was actually an email about this site starting up, from Blackadar I believe, that caused me to check it out. I registered and would post a little but the frequency has increased over time.

I remember reading about TCY on ESPN's site, but I'm not sure if that was before or after I started doing some searches to compare Football Mogul and FOF4. I think it might have been a case where I heard that a new version of Football Mogul was coming out, but on a forum somewhere (I don't believe it was FOFC) there people were stating opinions that FOF was much better than F-Mogul. I downloaded both demos, and agreed that FOF was better.

I was searching for a football sim game, wondering what there was to offer in this world, when I came around this game called Front Office Football. I downloaded the demo and was like "this is exactly what I've always been looking for!" but it was sold out. This was several months before FOF2 was released. About a year after I originally checked the site, I checkde it again and saw they had a new game. I purchased FOF2 and have been a forum member ever since.

TCY was on ESPNNews; not sure about the site or ESPNMag (but if it was, that's great that he got that much promotion out there, and partially explains why it sold so well.)

It was SackAttack's fault. I'd been playing High Heat 2000, went to the GA-Sport Forum for it, and ended up joining the Boys of Summer League (which met an unfortionately and untimely demise, as those involved know). Though in talking to Josh over ICQ he told me about FOF (either shortly before or after FOF2 came out). Got involved there and have been ever since.
Good times.

It was definitely something I read, although it could have just been a transcript of an ESPNNews story.
I played FBPro98, but steered clear from FbPro99 (luckily enough) and found a review of FOF2. Bought it, lurked on the Sideline (don't know if I registered) and registered here a month after the move. Bought every version since (except FOF2002).

Ran across someone mentionning FOF on the baseball mogul forum.
Came over here, read some dynasties (CT's Rutgers and Kodos' Gatesville mainly), got really interested, downloaded TCY and haven't stopped playing since. Oh and left the baseball mogul forum.
Did not buy FOF4 because not downloadable, will definitely buy FOF2004.

I was sick of Madden's weak version of career play and did a search for football career simulation and found the old FOF board. FOF2 was out and I bought it. Hooked and haven't been able to play Madden ever since.

I'm brand new to the game and am very impressed with the demo. I have been playing ootp for v4 and 5 now and before that played Lance Haffner's games including baseball, college basketball, and of course 3 in 1 football.
I found solecismic's site about a year ago, I know v4 was on it at the time. Looked at the sceenshots and thought it looked interesting. I have always wanted a game where I could really get into the gameplanning and this appears to be it. If there had been screens of the gameplanning in the screenshots I probably would have tried it then. I know some people are turned off or maybe a little afraid of something with that much detail but it would have been an immediate hook for me.
I actually d'loaded the v4 demo a couple of weeks ago to kill time until tpf (which I still intend to try) came out. When I looked at the gameplanning screen I was kicking myself in the ass for not doing it a year ago. So now I sit and wait for the new game to be released and am so glad that it's elicense so it will be on my hd within minutes. I'm sure my wife will be thrilled.

I remember somebody posting about how excited they were on www.tigerboard.com about the pending release of TCY. Have to say it is one of my favorite computer games in the past 10 years. Like Camedwards I also bought FOF4, but had trouble getting into it. I like the idea of multiplayer, but don't think I have near the amount of time that would be required to get involved. (Plus, with 32 team leagues I can very easily see the teams that start out the season poorly quickly losing interest.) I don't know if I have ever been involved in an online league where everyone played out the season. (Come to think of it, I was involved in two APBA mail leagues in the early 90's that sputtered out also)

2001 - During the reign of TCY I 10 6.45%

Jeez, talk about diminishing returns. Does this mean that only 1 person or nobody will discover FOF6 or TCY2?????
