So according to mom, if you pay someone to steal something for you, it's ok?

no, but THIS is (http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?pagename=article&node=&contentId=A134-2001Feb27¬Found=true)
AT $15K a song for 1,000 songs...I'm guessing the 12 year old should have her settlement paid off in the year 2264 (assuming appropriate raises in her allowance of course). :D

It sounds like she thought she was paying for a service (or playing dumb about it). I didn't even know there WAS a version of Kazaa that cost $30.

Didn't they say as long as you signed an agreement to stop sharing they would drop the suit? Non-issue

Right. It sounds like another mother who's trying to be super mom by being an idiot...
But then again, the RIAA should think twice about sueing a 12 year old. From a PR standpoint.

One interesting thing about the "agreement" I saw on the news the other day...
By signing it, you admit you stole music and the RIAA agree not to prosecute you, but you leave yourself wide open to being sued by any other group who owns music you might have downloaded (The RIAA is just the biggest group, they're not the only one out there who can sue). The story I saw had a lawyer who said there was no way he would recommend one of his clients sign this "agreement" and he was an independent lawyer not the guy representing the "music thieves".

From what I've read, the amnesty agreement is only for people who have not been sued.
