The part in bold actually had me laughing.

SAN FRANCISCO - Former Green Party presidential candidate Ralph Nader (news - web sites) was hit with a pie as he endorsed party member Peter Camejo for California governor.

The show of political support at the Green Party's San Francisco headquarters took an unscripted turn Tuesday when a prankster burst into the room and slammed a cream pie into Nader's face. The culprit fled through a side door.

Camejo later suggested the pie assault was the work of Democrats who may feel threatened by the Green Party's growing popularity.

Some Democrats blame Nader for helping put President Bush (news - web sites) in the White House by siphoning off votes from Vice President Al Gore (news - web sites) in the 2000 election.

Before the pie incident, Nader said California voters should take advantage of the unprecedented gubernatorial recall. He said Camejo understands the state's fiscal crisis better than other candidates.

Doesn't the Ralph Nader pie incident seem a bit out of place?

Yeah, there's no way those others should be above it.

There are way too many pie attacks in politics nowadays. :(

I just picture a group of democrats getting together and deciding that a pie to the face is the way to slow down those pesky green party fools, they're just getting too damn popular and stealing all the environmentalist votes.

This sounds like something from a Simpsons episode.

And you know the ultra-liberals were wanting to use a banana cream pie, while the moderate democrats were pushing for the lemon merangue...

There have been a number of pie throwing incidents like that over the last few years. San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown got hit by one a couple of years ago. My guess is that the same group is responsible for the hit on Nader.

There aren't nearly enough pie attacks in politics nowadays.

You'd think that security would be good enough around a politician that they could catch someone who threw a pie in their face. It's not like they have long-range sniper pies or something.

I certainly hope we aren't providing any security for Has been like Nader. I mean while he is campaigning for president is one thing, now it would be ridiculous to provide him security. I don't doubt that he has some sort of body guard or something, but those types of guys are much more likely to stop a pie throwing than catch the thrower. SO I guess the question we should be asking is do you think his body guard is struggling with the Thought " I should have taken that Pie"
