Baseball Prospectus is reporting that Pete Rose has reached an agreement with Major League Baseball to be reinstated in 2004 with no admission of guilt.

Amazing. At least all the arguements about "do or don't" will be over.

Has anyone but BP reported this news? Not that I don't believe them, I just find it hard to believe that no one else had even a whiff of it, because you know we would have seen at least a "could be happening any time soon" type of article if they did.

The combination of this being a BP-only story and the fact that Rose is apparently being allowed to manage again, makes me the slightest bit unsure whether to believe it.

Major League Baseball's chief operating officer, Bob DuPuy, shot down a Baseball Prospectus report Tuesday that claimed Pete Rose already has signed an agreement to be reinstated in 2004, calling it "totally unfounded, totally unsubstantiated" and "journalistically irresponsible."

Too good to be true, but exactly what I'd like to see.
