View Full Version : OT - Jumbled Song Puzzle

Well, we're due for a good puzzle here at FOFC, and I'm hoping this proves to be worthwhile.
Thansk to SkyDog who is hosting the file that you will need to work on this puzzle. Rather than concoct a story to set the whole thing up, I think I will just post the file, and let you have a go at it. It's an MP3 file (zipped), so you will need some sort of media player that is compatible with that format.
Here's a link to the file:
Sound Puzzle (www.younglifenorthdekalb.com/soundpuzzle.zip)
Enjoy.

Not sure cuervo but for some reason I think there's more to the puzzle than just the song puzzle. If you listen to the songs there are certain words cut out of some of the songs. For instance, in Once in a Lifetime, nasty is cut but then the song continues. Or the Rembrandts song gear is cut but then it continues. Maybe this has something to do with the puzzle. It could be like you say and just name the songs in which case:
Only Wanna Be With You-Hootiw and The Blowfish

You could be right....but it might be to make it harder to look up lyrics, or to make the song a little harder to identify? I don't know. Maybe there is a "higher purpose" to the puzzle. Knowing QS, you might be right.

And another is Can't Stop by The Red Hot Chili Peppers

I think the missing words combined will be the puzzle. It might even be as complex as finding all the missing words and then arranging them to mean something.
Bearcat729

Well then by figuring the titles it will be easier to figure the missing words.
By the way
Burning Down the House by Talking Heads is missing the word Nasty
And the word incidents is missing from the Asia song

I think you're treating 7 & 8 as two songs, but it's Relax by Frankie goes to hollywood. I *think* it's missing "laser beams". Pop Musik I believe is missing "Munich".
After S&G is "For you" by Staind, the word is "silence".

The bands are in alphabetical order (if you add "The" to the front of Rembrandts and Verve), so we're looking for a band in the last song that's after U2 in the alphabet.

Last song sounds like U2 Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me
Dashboard Confessional is band #3

I definitely agree, but it's either a cover by someone else, a really shitty version, or someone using the strings from the original song and singing something else over it.

Jaws was a villian. I think we've got something here!
cuervo72
07-09-2003, 10:54 AM
Brown is 'Braun' in german....anything to do with Werner von Braun? Studied in Munich, his engineering led to a violent explosion on an island (Japan), after which there was much silence. Ronald Reagan (Ronnie) then had an inclination to shoot laser beams at nuclear weapons years later, an idea that was greatly ridiculed?
I'm really reaching for straws here :D

I = baffled.
I've looked at the artists, titles and missing words over and over and nothing's clicked yet. I've sorted them by song name and missing word and no pattern has been found. I'm obsessing.
The sad thing is that I haven't even listened to the mp3 because my PC here at work doesn't have sound...I'm hoping that you guys haven't missed any other clues from the clip.

Well, I guess you just haven't done enough, then. There are more patterns in this world than alphabetical order.

I think it's supposed to be "The Rembrandts" and "The Verve".
Anyone looked at these in the order they were released? Don't know if that would make any sense or not.

Or, perhaps that is deliberately uninteresting.
For example, when you see an anagram puzzle, often the puzzle will be presented to you with the letters in alphabetical order.
(Example: C E E E M N R T X) The fact that it's presented in that order is not a clue in itself, but rather it's in thet order to prevent the suggestion that it is being put into a particular order for some purpose.
Hope that helps... but I doubt it.

I don't have a sound card at work, so no way to listen and thus, I wasn't able to involve myself in the first part of the puzzle. I've looked at the compiled list of songs briefly but haven't had time to really figure it out.

That's it there. We decode the message as being:
"Movie Starring Jamie Bell."
Which appears to be Billy Elliot. For whatever that's worth.

Of course to take the puzzle a step further, Billy Elliot could also be a reference to Bill Elliot the NASCAR driver, who races against Kevin Harvick, who we all know is the favorite driver of...you guessed it, our favorite banned king of unintentional comedy...Happy29.
So, this was all an elaborate ruse by QS to bring up Happy29.
OR...we can take this another route. Billy Elliot could also be a reference to Bill Elliot the NASCAR driver, which could be a reference to Days of Thunder which is a movie about NASCAR starring Tom Cruise, who was in the movie Cocktail with Elizabeth Shue, who was in the movie Hollow Man with...you guessed it:
Kevin Bacon.
So, this was all an elaborate ploy to link these songs to Kevin Bacon.
Shameless.

The trail has grown cold. We have no more directives to go on. We took missing words from songs and ordered them in some way to spell out a clue. We then took that clue and found a concrete object - a movie title. If Quik wanted us to do anything more with that, he hasn't said as much. I've reread his first post a couple of times, and can't find any sort of hidden directive with which to act upon our current object.
We have an answer, and no more questions. That being said, unless somebody can prove me wrong, I'm satisfied that we have an answer.

No, sorry. That's it. "Billy Elliot" was the answer to the original puzzle. Sorry for my lack of a "ding ding" response.
My oblique fecal references were to those who got sidetracked with the example anagram... nothing to do with the main puzzle.
