After all the great success we had a while back getting PurdueBrad what he needed, I thought I would post this DonorsChoose project which my brother is trying to get funded. He teaches at a charter school in Asheville, NC. It's not so much money this time, but if any of you feel like helping a teacher with at least a limited connection to FOFC, we would both appreciate it.

Thanks!

Interesting idea to get a camera, so they can see things from both sides. And those Flip cameras are perfect for what he's trying to do. Donated. :)

Didn't you just become a teacher (I recall you going to school to get your degree)? What happened?

On a side note, what's a charter school?

They are semi-private schools created with a specific "charter" for how they will try and teach the kids. They are publically financed, accept no tuition, and aren't allowed to discriminate / choose who they will accept. So a public school, but the parents get to choose if they want to go there.

I had a not-so-great first year and did not get my contract renewed. I tried to get another job, but no district offered me one. My sources within the district told me that they were trashing me badly to prospective employers. I couldn't even get an inner city position forcing me to look elsewhere.

I eventually took a job to work for the state. I actually start it on Monday.

Damn, sorry to hear that. I recall you putting in a lot of time/effort to get that degree.

Hopefully the new gig will work out well for you.

Thanks, man. It's been a rough summer, but it was a character building one for me as well.

A bump to this.

Since we all had a wonderful holiday and received some great presents while also giving to our friends and family. I hope some of you will find a spot to choose a really cool project, you can sort them by urgency if you choose to see which one's have the nearest deadline, and give a little. Give a lot. Whatever you can...Im sure it'll help as I think that this is one of the best charity organizations Ive seen where you can see a direct impact on children's lives.

Anyways, see if you can find it, and then post it on Twitter, or Facebook so that others can join you in giving.
