The folks over at simtropolis.com are pretty excited about it, after the poop that was Sim City Societies.

Oh, I hadn't heard about this. I love these type of games, so hope it is more like Sim City 4 and less like Societies.

Wow, this looks great. Hope it lives up to the trailer and videos!

I expect to buy this game as soon as it comes out--it's been a long time since we've had a viable new city-builder game.

This game was released a few weeks ago and the folks on Simtropolis have been panning it for ages now. Apparently they added this thing called "the planet option" (http://www.citiesxl.com/component/option,com_community/Itemid,136/task,planet_offer/?lang=en) which is a DLC/MMO type option they're trying to sucker people into, the game itself is a bit limited if you don't get that option. For instance, public transportation isn't available in the stand alone game, you need the planet option for that and you can only use it in your online cities.
So basically, if you wanted to play this like SimCity 4, you'll need to stick to it, because this doesn't seem to be a substitute. I'm still reading reviews though, as I'm super curious about it, but it seems to fall short.

Metacritic has a really good perspective of users, too. The reviewers seem to be okay with it, but people actually playing it are not pleased.

I was wondering about it myself. From those metacritic reviews, I don't think it'll be worth it for me.
