Acquired by the current owner's father in Egypt in the 1920s.

Lot Notes

Several polyhedra in various materials with similar symbols are known from the Roman period. Modern scholarship has not yet established the game for which these dice were used.

You do know that dice are used in games other than the roleplaying variety, right? ;)

You do know that dice are used in games other than the roleplaying variety, right? ;)

I guess I don't usually see the 20-sided variety used that often. So I am just gonna assume roleplaying games. :p

Romans did role play, it was called "Conquering the known world" VERY realistic, VERy expensive, but the entertainment value was simply inhuman....

Close, the games were very expensive, the result though if you hit your THACO was your opponent truly died, spraying blood everywhere....if you missed, and fumbled...you were dead...no D6 damage here..

But then again, they were a very debased society, David Mannix has some amazing work on the gladiatorial games and what went on during them.
