I am in SO much pain today. I had a league tennis match last night and my doubles partner and I played like we were unconscious. Every angle every serve every volley was perfect.
We won our match 6-2 6-2 and played a 3rd set for fun and came back from down 0-3 to win that one 6-4. All three sets before the rest of the matches were done playing 2 sets themselves.
It was such an awesome night. I haven't felt so totally confident and strong on the court since high school.
Unfortunately my body has decided that I am only allowed to revel in this for the night because its in agony today. My TOES hurt. hell i think my eyelids hurt...but I gotta say, if this is the cost to have a tennis match like that. I'll gladly take the pain afterwards.
Ok, back to your regularly scheduled tedium.

Ha, I just had my first league tennis match last night, too. I played mixed doubles, except my partner didn't show up. So the first set and a half, I played with a rather overweight lady who was on a team playing later that night, and then when she had to leave to play her match, I got partnered with a lady from the team I was trying to beat! The overweight lady couldn't move much, and because I assume she was trying to conserve some energy for her own match, I basically was playing 1 vs. 2. The other lady was pretty good, but double faulted on a crucial point (I don't think she tanked it for her team, as she was pretty embarassed/upset that she basically cost me the match).
So anyway, I lost 7-6, 1-6 and 10-7 in the tiebreak (which substitutes for a third set). Match went the full 1.5 hours. I'm feeling pretty good this morning, though. Now, ask me again after soccer tomorrow night and I'll probably have a different answer. And get this - next Tuesday, I have tennis at 6:00 and a soccer game at 7:15. THAT is going to kill me.

Are you sure it's not from Nair?

Why in the world would he want to move up there  :)
Fwiw, I have a sharp pain just inside my left shoulder blade. It feels like someone has stuck a knife back there, which I suppose is possible, because I cannot even see that part of my body.
If that pain were spread throught my whole body, I can see how that would be bad.

You would then understand about half of what I'm feeling today =)
Edit to add: I've been up and around since about 9am. ibuprofin in large dosages, hot showers with massage setting to help with the tougher knots, nothing is helping. I'm siting here at work and every time I try to stand up it requires the assistance of my hands and arms doing the lifting on my desk to get my legs moving.
This is nuts. I love how I played last night but damn, I'm dying today =)

Had my second tennis match last night, this time I played men's doubles. I hit the ball so much better this time, I actually felt like I was playing tennis rather than "make sure the ball goes over the net." And we won! 7-6, 3-6, and 11-9 in the match tiebreaker. That's 4 tiebreakers in 2 matches for me. Match lasted 1:45.

Might as well continue to post about my matches here.
Last week sucked. I severely sprained my ankle or pulled some tendons playing soccer a couple of weeks before, and because I was on vacation and not really able to rest it, it was still hurting when I made the stupid decision to try to play (hey, at least I skipped the soccer game!). We lost 6-3, 6-1. Not only could I barely move, but we played a team where one guy couldn't make it, so the fill-in was a teen who is really, REALLY good. Like, better than anyone else on the court. Pissed me off.
This week...ankle's much better, and me and a high school girl beat 2 40/50 year old guys 6-1, 6-7, and 10-6 in the tiebreaker/3rd set. That's 4 matches for me, and 3 of them have gone to the 3rd set/tiebreaker and had one set go to a tiebreak in each match, too. My game is getting much better, and I've got to find a way to play through the winter.

Yeah my USTA league is ending in 2 weeks and I'm hoping to find a way to keep playing regularly. Or find some other sport I can really bust my ass playing a couple times a week.
Unfortunately the tennis club's fees are gonna jump through the roof in December (new ownership already warned us) so I may not be able to play at that club beyond that point.
Blah.

That's the problem for me - in Florida, I didn't really have to worry about playing indoors at any point of the year. Not quite the same in Kentucky. This league is set up through our local rec center and only cost $50 to play on free, outdoor courts, but if I want an option for the winter, it would have to be with a Lexington club that has indoor courts. And I'm not sure I'd be able to play enough to justify the cost.

Be prepared because on top of the membership fees you get to pay court time fees as well.
Tennis is one seriously money grubbing service to be in. Clubs rape their members regularly and the sad part is, most of them just don;t see it that way.

When we were on vacation, my daughter won a soccer contest, and the prize was a free hour of tennis on an indoor court. We played, and the cost would have been $20/hour. It was really nice, but not THAT nice.

damn, thats cheap. At our club, depending on the time of day, the court fees range from 24/hr/person to 40/hour/person
yes thats per person, now if I take a guest in they only have to pay a guest fee of like 10 bucks or something, but still its just rediculous.

I had no idea how expensive tennis court rental is. What the hell.

Wow. The $20 was just at a resort with 3 indoor courts, I guess I could see it being more where that's pretty much the main source of revenue. That's insane. Just because I'm curious, I'm going to see what info I can find on costs around here.

Membership at LTC (Lexington Tennis Club) is $775 for one person and $1,125 for a family.
Court rates range from $19/hour (appears to be for the court, not per person) to $25/hour, depending on the time of day.
Love this:
Membership Rates
The membership rates include the privilege to rent the indoor courts, use the outdoor courts at no extra charge, free access to the indoor courts during the summer months and free access to the pool and fitness facility.
Thanks for the privilege! I assume that means that the only time it costs [extra] money to play on the indoor courts is outside of summer? Even if the courts were free all year, that's too rich for my blood at this point.
