Appalachian State takes an early 7-0 lead on Michigan, er I mean, Delaware.

Great goal line stand by the Mountaineers.

Five play, 99 yard drive by ASU to go up 14-0.

So does App St. look at Delaware's helmets and just pretend they're playing Michigan again?

Blah.

Not looking good at all for UD.

I understand trying to keep App st offense off the field by calling running plays, but for the love of god, can UD call any other play then that same draw play over and over again?

Flacco is 6-5, maybe a QB Dive at the 1?

TD taken back, missed Field goal, finally a stop and they get pass interference.

Just god awful luck for my fighting blue hens. Not sure what else could go wrong. Maybe Flacco and Cuff will get ejected?

I understand that, but you may want to call something else at least once or soon a text box will show up on the screen that says...
"The Defense was familiar with that play..."

Look, I love CBS GameCenter, I really do, but sometimes it's so screwed up.

Made it bigger so you can see what I am talking about regarding the stats, not the field.

True, true..

But let's be honest, this team is REALLY not built well for a big comeback..

Not saying they can't, but they're not built for it.

BTW - to me it looked like the UD defender had the angle on that ball before the pile, huge shame he didn't come up with it.

Just stupid plays after stupid plays.

They need Lazotte to make a big play and turn the momentum.

TOTALLY disagree with that call.

Absolute crap.

wade moore
12-14-2007, 08:27 PM
Wow, this screams of FCS wanting to have Appy St. as their champion after the Michigan win. This is like the WVU game late in the season.

OMG...

if this is on UD.

35-14, end of the 3rd quarter. That boneheaded personal foul penalty kept the Delaware drive alive and allowed them to score, giving them some faint hope going into the 4th quarter.

They're going nuts at this #21 and how terrible he is..

Give me a fucking break.

He's bad but the 100's of people basically on the field when the game isn't over is ok?

whatever..

(on replay he hit an officer, don't think that's where he was aiming)..

But - congrats to ASU, they're a damned good team and a legitimate dynasty.

What the hell else are you going to talk about?

It was certainly more relevant than the clock running (instead of kneeling - nice ASU) that was going on on the field.

3-peat for ASU.

I still hear people refer to the ASU win over Michigan as the "greatest upset of all time". Actually, ASU was about a 28 point underdog on some of the books who were carrying the game. That pales in comparison to Stanford's upset of USC as a 45 point underdog

Young Drachma
12-14-2007, 11:04 PM
But Stanford plays in USC's conference. And App State plays in a completely different level of football with less money, less resources and fewer scholarship athletes.

And Michigan was ranked #5 in the nation.

I agree with you, but my point was that ASU's upset as a 28 point underdog was dwarfed by Stanford's upset of USC as a 45 point underdog. The Stanford upset was the largest in history vs. the point spread.

Congrats to ASU, and Wade Moore's objections about the officials aside ;) , Delaware is an inferior team.

Appalachian State would have been favored over Stanford in Week 1 and would be favored over Stanford next week. The Stanford upset was much bigger.

The Appalachian State upset just had more shock value to the casual fan.

The Appalachian State upset just had more shock value to the casual fan.I think it's overstated how good ASU is. Edwards was injured and ASU was not the same for weeks after the Michigan game. I love seeing a UMass/ASU go toe-to-toe with a BC/Michigan or a Boise St/Hawaii take on Oklahoma/Georgia, but those teams would simply dominate over a season due to depth.

Also, there is the argument that while Stanford/USC had the biggest point spread, App St/Michigan was bigger because 10/20 years from now those teams won't belong in the same sentence while Stanford while be good at times and USC will regress.

Boise State was a legitimate top five team last year, and they beat an overrated Oklahoma team in overtime. A lot of people overlooked the fact that Oklahoma backed their way into the Big XII championship game after scraping out a lot of close wins with a wide receiver playing quarterback. Boise State was only a 6 point underdog in the Fiesta Bowl, but for some reason many people think that was one of the greatest upsets of all time.

I just don't buy this Bishop...

ASU deserved to win, don't get me wrong.. but UD is not an inferior team..

Hell, JMU was a shanked 26 yard FG away from going toe-to-toe with UD in the Championship game - a team that UD beat on November 3rd.

ASU lost to Wofford (who lost to Richmond, another CAA team in the playoffs) and Georgia Southern - a team that didn't make the playoffs.

ASU is a good team. They are the I-AA national champion, but to say Delaware is just an inferior team is naive.

ASU is a good team. They are the I-AA national champion, but to say Delaware is just an inferior team is naive.I love the CAA as much as you, but I think Delaware was the 3rd or 4th best team in the conference this year. Your timeline of a JMU/Delaware final assumes JMU would have gotten through Richmond, who they lost to at home. You also conveniently leave out that both Appalachian State's losses came when Edwards was injured. When he's healthy, App St is the best team, and their convincing 20+ point victories over Richmond and Delaware the last two weeks show that.

FWIW, bad-ass story I heard about Thorrington, the guy from ASU who caused the fumble at the 9 to seal the victory. He sat out the entire second half with an ice pack on his shoulder and no pads on. When App St scored the go-ahead touchdown, he went up and down the sideline searching for shoulder pads, finally took a pair from a backup during the kickoff, then grabbed his replacement and went into the game, causing the fumble 4 plays later.

Were they when he was out?

I heard in the game that the other guy went 4-0, so I assumed the two losses were with Edwards.

if I'm wrong, than that does hurt my point some..

*shurg*.. obviously ASU was better on Friday and would be on many days, but I just don't think UD is dramatically inferior.

You do make a good point though that maybe I'd have a better point with a couple of other CAA teams (like UMASS and JMU)

Edwards came back for the 1st time since Michigan against Wofford and re-injured himself the 2nd play of the 2nd half with the score tied at 14. He sat out the next two games, then came back and again got knocked out of the GSU game. That was later in the game and they were already losing, so you have an argument. Anyways, Edwards started the two games, but he was knocked out of both and probably wasn't 100%.

I also don't think Delaware is dramatically inferior, and didn't say so. I do think ASU would win 7-8 times out of 10, and thus is clearly the superior team. Maybe inferior was a harsh word, but this wasn't a toss up IMO.

Glad to see it. Mt. Union's current President used to be at Monmouth and was one of those goofs who thought schools with less than 1500 kids should have over 100 kids on the football team.
