Some friends of mine have been waiting for this, and I've kept an occasional eye on it. It's a Sci-Fi MMORPG if you have not heard of it. It came out last week and I am wondering if anyone has any early impressions. There's no direct download option, so that's a bit disappointing (you mean I have to leave the house?).

I haven't played it. The impressions I read on it didn't do anything for me. I'm willing to try it out if I hear good things, but I have no plans to run out and buy it right now.

I played the beta, and I must say it wasn't very good at all.

Yeah, I was in the beta too.
It didn't seem very fun to me.

I just found out that you can buy it through PlayNC as direct download. But I think I'll hold off for a bit.

I played the beta and though I really like the idea of a sci-fi game, TR really underwhelmed me. I will wait and perhaps it will be improved with some patches.

Just started playing it and only for an hour so far so take what I say with a pinch of salt.

It reminds me a little of Anarchy Online in terms of setting. Gameplay is something I need to get used to at this time though movement feels a little clunky to be honest.

Fights are a little Starship Trooper like, i.e. you're just crouching and blasting away at mobs with your guns. I understand there's some strategy involved (choice of weapon, use of cover) but it doesn't feel very intuitive right now to be honest (I just crouch wherever and start clicking away to shoot).

I'm not prepared to say it's a failure yet but it hasn't captured me completely in the first hour of play.

If anybody is interested in trying the game, you can sign up at mmorpg.com for free then get a three day free trial key from them.

From some of the stuff I've read, the game isnt as bad as it at first seemed.

Changed the thread title to something more appropriate with this bit of news:

It only lasted a year. Officially going to end in Feb 2009.

I know some MMOs have come and gone, but I can't think of any that only lasted a little over a year. Even the total flops tend to be able to stick it out for 2 or 3 years.

Well Lord British is headed to space anyway...

He went to space last month. When he got back, he left NC Soft.

Perhaps he was replaced by an alien doppleganger!
