Ok, you know the routine. I'm so close to pulling the trigger now that Best Buy has zero interest until 2010. I'm in graduate school so this is very appealing to me since it's tough for me to pay it off in one year (since this is my last year of the program).

I use my television mostly for watching sports and stuff like the Discovery/History channel. I do not watch many movies and I do plan on buying one of the new next-generation consoles. I also connect my laptop to use my Slingbox (run from my parents house out of state) for sporting events which I no longer receive (I moved).

From what I've gathered over the last year or so of research, here is what I'm thinking of doing:

LG 42" LCD
$1299 (on sale at Circuit City...best buy will match).
Best Buy is also willing to "throw in" the HD receiver (I already have DirectTV and they will NOT give me this free because of a shortage) as well as knock off an additional $50 off the TV (the HD promo was $150 off). So I'd basically get the TV for $1249 with the HD receiver from DirectTV.

The only thing I'm thinking of trying still is to go to Circuit City, see if they'll match all of this AND take my 12% off coupon that Best Buy gave me for my rewards program but will NOT let me use because of double-dipping. Maybe Circuit City will fall for it?

The last catches are I'm thinking of getting surround sound...although the special aren't that great and I really do not need to see shows on WWII in surround sound lol. It would be cool for video games though.

CC is willing to match the no financing and the offer is good through 1-27-07 (I have it in writing).

I guess the only other catch to throw out there is that I'm thinking of picking up a new console too...the only problem is I'm not sure which one to get. I'm actually leaning towards the PS3 because all I really play are sports and they will have more than 1 baseball game. I doubt there are any "TV/Console" deals out there...

I'd love to hear what you guys think. Am I making the right choice in technology? The plasmas really scare me because I want NOOOOOOOTHING to do with burn-in. I'd be so pissed!

Thanks for your help, I'm no pro at this and that "perfect deal" hasn't jumped out and hit me like it usually does when making a purchase similar to this (you know the feeling).

If I think of anything else I'll repost!
