I have the option to buy a car through Ford or Nissan, with an employer discount program, which means I can purchase it for close to the dealer invoice price. I had a few questions about it. Has anyone ever purchased a vehicle this way? How much money am I looking at saving on a car in the mid teens?

Also, I noticed on the Nissan site, that you can use this program on used cars that are NNA or NMAC-owned. Does this mean I have to purchase a used nissan car only? or if a nissan lot has a different car, I could purchase it? Does anyone know what kind of savings I could see if I went the used car route here?

I have used Dodge's program through my brother in law and think the savings were about 8-9%. While that may seem like a huge percentage, if the car is in the teens, it is maybe only $1000-2000. (Believe me this is a large amount of money, but I think some people think they are going to get like $5000 off a car)

My main suggestion is to not not reveal you have the deal and negotiate your trade first. If you introduce yourself to the salesman and tell them immediately about your deal I think they go to plan B for making money. Maybe this has no effect at all on what they offer for the trade, but the way I look at it is that the worst case scenerio is I saved no money, with the best case being I actaully even got a little more. The salesperson seemed pissed when I revealed I had to employee pricing so I do think I saved even a little more. I don't know anything about the used cars though.
