this sucks. My fflight was supposed to leave at 5:15 and it is now 11:00 and we are still delayed. I have obviously missed my connecting flight and I will be one of those peolpe you see sleeping on the cocourse when I do end up somewhere. This really, really sucks.

I've never had a good experience with the Newark Airport. My flight has ALWAYS been delayed. Of course, I've only flown through there 3 times, but still it hasn't been good. I hope things work out better whenever you do get going again.

just remember, you don't want to end up on "Airline" being one of those bitchy people. Don't give the airline people a hard time, it's totally out of their control.

If you like golf, drive to Springfield in the morning for the PGA

It was just raining really bad. I don't think in that downpour you would have wanted to be taking off anyway...

Newark is a tough airport because it's blocked in from each direction. There's just too much volume there.

However, I just checked Weatherbug and saw a HUGE T-storm just run through there. Not the type of weather you want to be flying in anyway.

Why not stay at the Marriott? Do they have any rooms?

Of all the airports I wouldn't want to be stuck in, Newark is pretty high on my list. I don't know exactly what bugs me about it, but I really hated it on the whole two occasions I've had to pass through it. Not that there's really any airport that would be great to be stuck in (although McCarran in LV probably wouldn't be unbearable).

damn, i just drove past there 20 minutes ago. I could have stopped in and said hi if i'd known.

And yes, there is some ridiculous thunder and lightning going on right now, worst I recall seeing in quite some time.

I didn't mind Newark that much, but I had a sundays worth of football games to entertain me while I waited for my flight.

When I had to spend 4 or 5 hours at Dulles later that night I was ready to go insane.

I almost got stuck on a partially flooded highway with me friends because of that goddamn storm. We were driving down Rt. 17 and the storm blindsided us, absolutely flooding half the road, making it nearly impassable. Vision was like no more than 10 feet in any direction. We had to get off of the highway and find a place to stop and wait the storm out. TheN the power went out, so we had to get pizza instead of chinese food (which kinda pissed me off...).

It was a shame, too, because my best friend at home is going down to ATL for school on tuesday, and i won't see him again for three months.

Agreed. I've always thought Newark was a decent airport. Inifinitely better than JFK, the other international NYC area alternative.

Dulles is a hole and perhaps the most inanely designed airport ever.

One of the nicest airports in the US has to the Northwest terminal in Detroit. It's very new and incredibly nice. Given that the old terminal was probably the worst in the US, it's a nice upgrade.

My horrible Newark experience: as a kid flying People Express (that'll age me nicely) during November. Circling Newark in a winter storm, so lots of turbulence, finally landing, and then having to wait until the next morning for our flight out. But of course, it's late, so the terminal is CLOSED for cleaning. Whole plane is out in some central foodcourt area with not nearly enough seats trying to find places to stretch out and catch a nap, while all the nice cushioned seats are off-limits so the cleaning crew can do the floors.

And my poor parents had three of us kids in tow.

I hate Newark airport...

I just got home. My flight finally left at 2:20 and got to Atlanta at 5:00AM. Then I got on the 8:00 AM flight to DFW and here I am. Holy crap that sucked.

Splendid. I have to spend a couple of hours there on my way to Atlanta this October. I hate flying as it is, so easing my jangled nerves in a pleasant setting will be nice after an eight-hour trip.

I've flown in and out of Newark a whole bunch of times, and I have to say that it's one of the better airports I've been to, especially because the transport system is nice and convenient. JFK was a bitch to get out of. Don't even get me started on Heathrow ... last time I flew from there I spent nine hours in the departure lounge because my flight was delayed something awful.

Newark has upgraded a lot of it's facilities in the past few years - it's not nearly as bad as it used to be. Fortunately, it IS one of those airports that has bars located BEYOND security.
