I've seen a lot of themed leagues- keepers, the alumni league, etc- but are there any just plain old FOFC Fantasy Football leagues for this season? And, if not, is there some interest for a Yahoo league. If so, I'll start one later on today.

Ok, league is set up. Preference given to those 10 people in the thread who said they would join. After Wednesday, any open spots to anyone else. I'd recommend playing only if you can make the draft or make crazy lists. Like all fantasy leagues, the bane of the league is all those dead teams and people who can't draft tend to leave their teams quicker.

Make sure to check out the scoring rules. I have one quite "weird" thing that I'm a huge believer in- 2 starting QBs. None of this nonsense where everyone scraps for the crappiest RBs out there while the #12 QB in the league is next to useless. Also, return yards are included in team defense so you're drafting both defense and special teams when you draft "defense". If you do go off a list- make sure to adjust it accordingly.

I tried not to tweak things too much pointswise but there are a few changes from the default. I've lessened TDs a little (6 pts-> 5) so that yards are worth more comparatively. Ints and fumbles are just -1 now. Field goals are worth 4/5 (long) instead of 3/4 since kickers were kindof worthless before. WRs yards are 10 for a point versus RBs being 15 (and QB at the default 50) because WRs never get much of a shake in fantasy leagues either.

The general effect of these changes is that, while crazy years like last year's performances by Manning and Culpepper or 2003 Priest Holmes will be stat outliers that score more than anyone else, the mere mortal QBs and RBs will have a pretty even mix so the league won't just be "draft RBs and pray for everything else". WRs can have a pretty good chunk of influence and even kickers and defense can even do some damage. Only TEs (not named Tony Gonzalez or Gates, last year) don't have a big impact but there wasn't much I could do about that. So, you have to draft a balanced team top to bottom.

Hopefully the stat changes aren't too weird. This isn't one of those wacky leagues where the commish does weird stats to give himself an advantage- I was just looking at the points totals from the last 2 years trying to make things fair so all positions matter. Hope to see you there.

League info is as follows. I kindof want to keep 10 due to the restrictions on scoring (2 QB/2 RB)

Got 8 of the 10 spots spoken for. Hopefully the draft time works for everyone.

As for the 2 QBs- it's the one really "out there" rule that I insist on. It has always bugged me that, say, Trent Green and Tom Brady are useless but people will scrap for the Nick Goings, Kevin Barlows, and Lee Suggs of the world.

The other stuff was random balancing to make sure there's a decent mix of QBs, RBs, and even WRs, K, and DEF in the top 100 in scoring, using the last 2 years stats.

I signed up, we are the Cowering Whities. We shall disarm you with our nonthreatening manerisms! FEAR THE PASSIVE AGGRESIVENESS!

And, yea, the two QB thing sounds really interesting, playing with 2 QBs will be a first for me. I like the idea because I always end up with a really really good 2nd QB that I can do nothing with.

Everyone going to be able to make it? I don't want to see a bunch of inactive autopicking teams. If you have a spot in the league, I hope you can make it, don't mind being autopicked for and will still follow your team, or will step aside for someone who wants to be in the league.

That's cool, Jeebs. I've done teams where I had to autodraft and will go nuts with the waiver wire pretty much all season, trying to restock some of those lower picks and that's pretty fun. I know that some people won't do that tho and will just abandon their team and I'd rather replace people who won't keep up with their team.

SI

I'm fairly happy with my team, tho I think my RBs are a bit of a question mark. I think my QBs will make up for that, tho. I couldn't believe how nuts people were drafting RBs despite it being a 2 QB league so I made sure to snag two of the top ones to make up for marginal RBs.

Looks like I'm going down in flames this week to Jeebs. And the worst thing is that my bench would have won it for me. I sat Roy Williams for Brandon Stokely- probably dumb. But Stephen Davis with a big day on the bench- I just can't fault sitting him against the Pats rather than running out Lamont Jordan against the sieve-like Chiefs. Anyone who says Davis was a better play coming into the week was either a Panthers fan, nuts, or has his very own copy of Gray's Sports Almanac (bonus points for the reference ;) )

Unfortunately, there's no nice way to cut and paste the new brackets on Yahoo for this season, but here's the playoff matchups going into this week. The Rafini Express looks nearly unbeatable but who knows what can happen in only one game :)

Also, it looks like there were only 2 inactive teams out of 10- so that's quite good.

Such a valiant effort by my scrub plug-in team. With one Manning playing limited time, the other sucking it up, and Lamont Jordan injured and on my bench, I plugged in an Arizona QB, a Baltimore QB, and a pothead to try and salvage the game. I was relying on Kyle *freaking* Boller! And I got sooooo close. The real kicker is that if I had played Bruce instead of Porter or Julius Jones instead of Williams, I would have won, but neither had seemingly favorable matchups. But that WR combo of Holt and Moss was just too insane to overcome. Frankly, I had no business even being close in that game and almost came away with a win.

Congrats to Rafini- his team dominated all season and won the title!

Wow my inactive team had 4 whole wins. Sorry about that guys, between losing both grandfathers in 6 months and all the katrina rebuilding stuff with family, I had no free time until Christmas. I think any of you guys that got beat by my team should be very, very ashamed. :) Congrats Rafini!

I guess we can forgive you for that with everything going on ;)

As for the ashamed-to-lose part, well, sometimes you just have a bad week and the inactive team has a good week. I don't think I lost to you, but it's bound to happen unless your draft was awful and your guys stayed pretty healthy.

Ok, looking for some feedback about the league. I've been trying to tailor the "perfect" fantasy league where there's good balance.

Top 25 (261-163)
7 RB
9 QB
9 WR
2 K with same points
7 DEF with same points

Next 25 (160-124 Pts)
5 RB
8 QB
11 WR
1 TE
2 K with same points
21 DEF with same points

Thoughts:
-I love the 10/15 yardage split for WR/RB. It makes the erratic WRs worth something when stacked up against RBs. No more of this 20/20 or 15/15 splits- WRs don't get as good of stats as RBs so let's make it fair for them
-50/10/15 sounds really lopsided for QBs but it seems to work out. I think that's because that's so biased towards TDs with 5 per TD. Maybe I'll drop QB TDs down to 4 and bump yards up to 40.
-TE's suck out loud. I wish I could just double or 1.5 modifier on TE points. Sure, Gates would be one of the best players in the league and Tony Gonzalez would be good, too. But It's much better than 1 in 50 now.
-I need some way to distinguish between defenses more. I like that the Bears were worth as much as a good QB or WR but there's no way the San Fran D should be up there with your usual 2nd and 3rd fantasy WRs.
-I think 10 is the perfect size for this type of league- 12 would really put a squeeze on finding a starting QB/RB. There is still quite a bit of scarcity, if you hold off on getting those but you can find a crappy QB or RB sitting around.
-Very much in favor of a week 15/16 playoff as opposed to 16/17 so that was a good call. Too many people sit in week 17- it was like the XFL fantasy league I did the year it was around. You just prayed you had a starter and hoped for the best.

Here are changes I'm looking at for next year:
-Change 3rd WR slot to WR/RB flex. WRs are marginally worth more but it'll give those RB hoarders something to do with #3.
-On defenses, make the "break even" point around 20 points, and start making negative points beyond that. Also, add in a component for yardage to balance that out so that good teams are not penalized but it does create some separation.
-For kickers, maybe make XPs worth 2 and/or bump FGs over 40 up to 5 and FGs over 50 to 6. They still aren't worth much.

Other questions?
-Two defense and kickers? I'm torn on this- it makes some poisitional scarcity there but those seem like so much more of a crapshoot compared to the skill positions.
