Okay, I figure this is worth a shot around here, maybe somebody will have an epiphany.

A friend is trying to figure out the name & components of a drink they had on a cruise ship. Replicating the drink is apparently the number one request for someone's 21st b-day party this weekend, so that seems like a worthy enough cause for me to at least try to help. Unfortunately, creatively colored shots are not my alcoholic specialty, so I don't have a clue.

Here's what I know
1) It's served as a shot
2) It's shaken & strained before pouring
3) It is a very light blue color, "really pretty, almost like the crystal blue of the ocean in Cancun."
4) The taste has some element of fruit and/or coconut "For some reason, it reminded me of a Pina Colada, but it didn't taste like a Pina Colada."
5) It was believed to be a mix of blue curacao and something, no idea whether that "something" is one ingredient or more than one.

Thoughts (and recipes) are invited.

First guess would be that it would include Malibu Rum for the coconut/pina colada flavor.

Also, if it had a fruity taste and had to be strained, that would seem to indicate there might have been some fruit juice of some sort. Maybe pineapple?

Dang, I knew I left out a detail ... they've tried Malibu and blue c. as an experiment and said that definitely wasn't it. Maybe a missing ingredient(s) to that combo possibly?

Wonder if it's an "Ocean Drive"

Malibu, Curacao, OJ, Pinapple Juice, Cranberry Juice.

Sounds like something you'd get on a cruise...

Edit: There are several variations of this drink without each juice.

Clearly, you mean the Flaming Moe.

Sounds like the "Blue Martini" that they serve at one of the college bars here. I can't remember the exact formula, but there was pineapple juice, Blue Curaco, and vodka. Can't remember if there was anything else in it or not. I'll need to ask the girlfriend since she was the one who was drinking them...

I've had a similar drink called a blue fucker, but I'll be blue fucked if I could tell you what was in it.

This makes me want a drink. These sound good. :)

But it's a shot, so it can't be filled with too much liquids.

Thanks for all the effort gang. The current plan apparently involves a shopping trip for possible ingredients & then experimentation.

Given that this is a 21st b-day, I suspect that'll be a lot of tries ...
just to make sure if they've found the right formula naturally :D

Not true, I've seen recipies for shots that have like eight different liquors in them...

actually sex on the beach is purple and has peach schnapps, midori and chambord ( some places also use vodka) and had cranberry and pineapple juice in it.

Anyone know the color of a Kamikaze? I think the "Blue Kamikaze" has blue curacao added. Of course the flavor is more lime-y than anything else.

Be careful here. Lots of attempts at shots can be very dangerous. I did that one night, trying different types of shots we could make with all the alcohol we had in our cabinet. We had a "shooters" poster which had recipes for about 100 shots.

We figured we made about 14-15 shots all taken within an hour. Almost killed myself with alcohol poisoning. In fact, the next afternoon I was still too drunk to drive myself home.

A kamikaze is green (vodka, triple sec, lime juice) you could replace the triple sec with blue curcao to make it blue.

The drink that started all of this could be a Turquoise Blue- Rum, Triple sec, Blue Curacao, Pineapple juice, sweet and sour mix.

I'm not trying to sound like a know-it-all or anything, its just that I was a bartender for 9 years.

Calling me an Alcoholic? :)
I prolly had three drinks in the last year.

Yeah, I know shots can have lots of liquors. Just hard to picture having so many in shot glass.

Blue Hawaiian (http://www.webtender.com/db/drink/117)?

Forget the blender part. I've never served one that way.

LOL, 21 is quite a way back in my rear view mirror now.

No, this isn't my 21st, or even a 21st that I'm joining the celebration for -- actually it was Coach P (from my youth baseball thread) asking the question, trying to find an answer for her cousin's upcoming b-day.

I've always had my Kamikazes with blue curacao.
